Customizable weapons! (for real!)

Care to explain why not? Maybe I am overlooking something that you see?

It would increase replayability by adding a crafting element. You aren’t always going to get that gun part you want.

This point might be true, but it also mean that once you got your part you’re absolutely min maxed

Gearbox has said it many times. If you make a perfect gun there is nothing to search for in game. It is their philosophy.

It would be easier, but not easy. You would still have to farm the specific weapon you want multiple times to get the ideal parts, then you would have to break it down and hope the party you want is still salvageable.

For that one piece of equipment and that specific build.

People on PC have been capable of min maxing Borderlands 2 toons in minutes by using mods, yet 7 years later the game was still thriving.

This adds another level of customization and personalization to the mix, as well as be more friendly to those that don’t cheat and actually farm their loot.

Now every time you farm that specific weapon or shield you were looking for there is less of a chance that you are waisting your time. It makes it more meaningful.

Well, you’d be in the same situation if you settled for a gun you decided was good enough. And you’ll still have to experiment to find the most optimal part. And then you can do this to every gun type of every company and every elemental.

They have also said rarity is important, yet here we are, with people maxing out their inventory with legendary gear in an hour.

My hope would be that finding parts wouldn’t be random, that they would just be switched. The limiting factor would be in the cost to make the change. Either this could be a new currency as I originally mentioned, or in eridium.

There is also no such thing as the “perfect gun”, just the most optimal. It would still have weaknesses that are found in all the gun companies. High damage = low fire rate. High fire rate = low accuracy.

don shoot the messanger i don care about what people want in this game as long as they are not in my coop. you can have a gun that shoots elephants that ■■■■ on everything and then play what a wonderful world trumpet verses.

Hey, no need to get mad, we’re all here for a good game and to contribute to it. Do you think this would imbalance the game? If so, how so? Do you think that the guns are purposefully designed to have some limiting flaw to keep them from being op? If that is the case, then maybe there could be a way to prevent that, such as only this reciever can hold these parts, so it can’t have high fire rate AND an accurate barrel.

The parts are what make the gun, of you don’t have the gun part how are you going to use it? I’ve put posts on this several times myself. If you mean you just want to be able to buy the perfect piece of gear of be against that.

There are perfect versions of every piece of gear. It’s the best version of that specific piece of kit. The 94% sham, the practicable CC with the Torgue barrel & Bandit grip, Etc…

Yes, your build will decide what the best gear for you, but there are perfect versions of said gear.

??? All I did was point out that what they say today may not be what the design tomorrow.

I described in my first post that you could have a gun you want upgraded, and a gun you would sacrifice in order to remove a single part. The cost of this, either in eridium or some new currency, would be determined by part, and possibly by level. Now, for the “best gear”, there will be strengths and weaknesses to every gun, unless it has everything perfectly balanced, which would mean it excels nowhere, and would be just as effective as if it excelled in damage, but was weak in accuracy or fire rate. The DPS should average about the same. As for the last part, this gaming community has been a bit quick to anger with a lot of its polarizing opinions, we all just need to step back a bit. It’s a game, try to have fun. That’s the purpose of this discussion. And to make badass guns.

For me I think the most I would like to see is not fully customisable and buildable , but maybe the ability to take one gun and another of the same rarity put them in a machine first gun will be your base and the second you can pick one item to take and swap with the first

Would cost 1000E and once the gun has had a change it is locked to stop further changes and to your account

I was just thinking that, maybe a hard limit to the number of changes so you have to decide between what parts to change and what parts to keep. That seems like it might help for those who are concerned with balancing.

I hate how some guns definitely have extra sights on them but you can’t use them. Like wtf

Maybe I’m an idiot but I was under the impression they were going to have gun customization in bl3. I kept trying to figure out how and thought maybe it was locked behind a quest or completing the game. After beating the game I even googled it and couldn’t find anything. Can’t tell you how let down I was that I misunderstood whatever it was I had read/watched.

Would be a great cash or eridium sink though to dismantle guns for their parts and apply them to one gun to make it perfect. Have luck affect dismantle or fuse chance even so it’s not a guarantee. 5-10-15% chance weapon fuse. Might also encourage people to not hoard as many items if they can dismantle most of them for parts.

I’m still not convinced of their being a chance mechanic to being able switch parts. Like, holding the gun, I see the part right in front of me. All I’d want is to be able to put it on another gun, at whatever the cost. 1000 eridium? Sure. But having to scrap hundreds of guns for a chance to gain a part that wasn’t even on any of those guns? Just seems odd. And by swapping parts instead of just learning them and being able to apply them whever, players will still need to find the parts they want.

Ha, that has been a bit odd. I felt it was more common in BL2, especially with Dahl snipers. I haven’t used Dahl too much, but I believe switching fire modes changes the sights, right? That could be an interesting thing to customize.

I don’t mean swapping a Maliwan Pistol part with a Jacobs shotgun part. Keep it all within reason and have it make sense. Gun for gun like how anything COULD drop goodroll. Now with resources, a duplicate gun, and a little luck, we can eventually make our own godroll gear. This won’t by any means eliminate farming but it will add a new mechanic to the game and make farming feel a little more rewarding while partially solving bank space and currency issues.
