The thing is we need more playlists, lots more. Not less. Quick play, ranked(both with sub lists for all 3+ game modes), casual/spotlight (with rule changes or other randomness), random mode, etc. Give people the options to choose what ever flavor they want.
The reply to this is we don’t want to split the playerbase. Then don’t, fix your match making so we can que up for EVERYTHING at the same time. Fill my screen with whatever combinations of play lists I want, let me monitor them all. When one gets full, give me say 5 or 10 seconds to accept or drop out of that que.
This way you can monitor progress for a capture map while still being able to get incursion or meltdown maps if capture doesn’t fill fast enough. This will let people try for their favorite thing, but still have backups instead of the “que for incursion to find a game” thing we usually have going on.
This with other changes like only putting groups with similar (+ or- 1 person) sizes groups, putting 10 people together before randomizing teams, will, in my opinion, fix most of the problems that are driving people away from this amazing game.
Not saying these are easy changes either, but I think a system like that is needed for such a rich and diverse game as battleborn. We’ve already proven people like their options, so give us a system that fully embraces that.
