Director Neill Blomkamp "was" (now IS) (now ISN'T) working on new Alien Movie

Just read an interesting article that Director, Neill Blomkamp “was” making an Alien movie (the guy behind District 9, Elysium, Chappie etc) I’m guessing it wasn’t picked up by the studio?!

Some cool concept art though…

I’m fine with everything…until the alien “hat”…that’s a bit out in left field for my tastes. I wish the Alien license could attract a top shelf director again. A:R, AvP, AvP:R…horrible picks

Yeah, my thoughts exactly! - I don’t really know what’s going on in that picture?!

Neill Blomkamp is about the only director out there these days I would want to see do something in the Alien series.

He has the perfect eye for this type of “low-fi” sci-fi film. He can grasp and show the gritty, working world of a future that isn’t all shiny technological marvels.
The “xeno helmet”… I don’t know. No idea what the concept behind it is, where it would fit in… or if it’s something that would actually be used in the final project.

I would have loved to have seen a Neill Blomkamp Alien film. Sad that he’s not working on it anymore.

I saw these the other day and I think they seem pretty rad. I’d love to see Blomkamp do an Alien movie!

Until 20th Century Fox can stop green lighting crap stories, I think Blomkamp should keep his sights on a Halo movie. His not-a-commercial nailed the tone of the series.

That right there is some very cool stuff. I’d like to think that Blomkamp wasn’t just working on this stuff unofficially and that Fox is trying to gauge interest on a potential alternate universe Aliens sequel.

Hmmmm…This is really cool stuff.

The shots collides with the story from A:CM. I think this concept shots are “older”.

But, I´m happy with the “told” story (movies, NOT the games!!!). Something fresh would be nice. For example the time between Alien³ and Resurrection.

I hope Prometheus 2 comes with the missing link between Prometheus 1 and Alien

they could totally make a movie that ignores Alien 3, Alien Resurrection, and Aliens: colonial marines. “cannon” is a marketing buzzword. “Rocky 5” was cannon, until everyone thought it sucked. Then comes “Rocky Balboa” (Rocky 6) and it completely ignores part 5 (broke and practically retarded). Now all of a sudden he has a nice successful restaurant and all his wits about him?

Give me Blomkamp’s further adventures of a very much alive Ripely, Hicks, and Newt.

Alien³ is quite ok…Resurrection sucks, ok. They could ignore Resurrection. Hicks is still alive after Alien³ and A:CM. And Ripley could be a android…

We are Borg…resistance is futile

Don’t mean to go off topic too much but as a fan of the Rocky films myself I do remember that the original ending for Rocky V had Balboa dying at the end, but the studio decided to change the ending, probably to make more Rocky films down the road. Rocky V in someways is a lot like Alien Resurrection…excellent premise but the overall execution sucked. That being said, did Rocky 6 (or whatever it was called) actually ignore the events of Rocky V?

I agree. Alien 3 is a worthy addition to the series but Alien Resurrection was awful and should never had been made. That being said…that picture of an aged, scarred Hicks in USCM body armor definitely has my attention. But the only way this film could happen is if they basically ignore Alien 3, Aliens: CM and Alien Resurrection. Not the worst thing in that could happen but its a must.

Yea, pretty much. In 5, he’s repeating his stories, forgetting everything, has the shakes, mumbles (more). In 6, which is really good if you haven’t seen it, he has a simple house but is making a living. owns a restaurant in his old neighborhood. can speak sentences longer than 4 words. Its awesome.

I agree, Alien 3 has enough good things going for it. But it jacked up the character arc SOOOO much, that 20th century either has to start from scratch (which they haven’t been willing to do), or erase the “wrong turn” which is Alien 3. Hell, I’d let Blomkamp make a feature length version of Alien: Isolation. Its a story unto itself. It doesn’t slave itself to a dead Ripley or mystery egg on the Suloco. Clean start, and room to play with the WY cover up.

Well…thats a good idea! I don´t wanna see another bad Alien game! All the Alien(s) or AvP games didn´t hit the movies. And I don´t mean the AvP movies…Jesus…wtf…why Fox did this AvP stuff? AvP 1 is “ok” with both eye´s closed, but Requiem…arrrggghhh…this is the last bs!!!

Alien³ (S.E.) is really good! Not the 92 version.

I would like to see how W-Y die´s, between Alien³ and Resourresction.

I LOVE where your head’s at, @Mr_Yutani.

For the purposes of Blomkamp’s idea I suppose its possible to still keep Alien 3 & Alien Resurrection canon as long as Ripley is not involved. According to Fox Aliens: CM is apart of the official Alien canon, which means that Hicks did not die on Fury 161. However knowing how studio executives think I couldn’t see this film being made without Signourney Weaver being involved. The same thing basically happened with the proposed sequel to Wanted…even though Angelina Jolie died in the first film they did not want to make a sequel unless she was in it. Therefore I think if this film were to take place it would have to basically ignore Alien 3, Aliens: CM & Alien Resurrection.

This is a great idea, but what I would really like to see is an colonial marines film done by someone who does sci-fi right…like Ridley Scott, James Cameron, Neil Blomkamp, etc. I really think that could be a tailor made success for James Cameron, unfortunately it seems like he would rather make 3 more smurfs in space films (Avatar sequels) :frowning:

in Cameron’s defense, the space smurfs made 1000% more money than Aliens…and I’m sure he gets a bigger return on it.
