Do not raise the level cap

This is a mind-blowingly bad idea for all of the reasons that have been discussed in this post so far, and (assuming that all of this is true), it will sort of feel like Gearbox still just doesn’t “get it”. The point of these loot games is to…well…collect loot, which is generally an end-game activity. Leveling a character to max level is only fun the first time or two that you do it, after that it is tedious because most people just want to get to the end-game and start hunting legendaries. Raising the level cap even further largely invalidates 7+ years and hundreds, if not thousands, of hours spent farming and completely misses the point of what loot games are all about and why people get so addicted to them. If this actually happens it will make me especially worried for the end-game of BL3.

There is a reason why Diablo 3 chose a level cap and stuck with it, or that Destiny’s legendaries always stay at “max” level.

Also, like others have said, more skill points waters down build diversity even further. I like being forced to be creative with my skill selection, not just having a character that is identical to everyone else.

Hopefully this leak is either inaccurate or there is going to be some mechanic to keep your max level guns relevant. I have a feeling guns that are OP-level guns will still be OK, but those are supposed to be totally optional, end-game activities. It wouldn’t be right to invalidate all max level non-OP weapons.

OP8 gear will instantly be level 80 gear if they do it right. Each OP level gear will correspond to levels 73-80.

Questions I have is:

Are my OP level achievements still valid? In other words, if I level from 72-80, am I still eligible to enter the game at OP8 or do I need to redo the trials at level 80?

If I enter the game at OP8 at level 72, the OP8 gear is already equal to level 80. Can I use level 80 gear since I’m OP8? Does level 80 gear drop?

If I am able to still enter the game at level 73 OP8, is all my gear now level 80 but usable because I’m OP8 eligible? Does level 73 OP8 gear that drops as I level become instead level 80 OP1 gear and still usable by me since I’m OP8?

Actually I think the correct way to do it would be for OP8 Guns to stay “OP8” guns. So if the level cap is 80, they essentially become level 88 guns. This makes the most sense to me because it means everyone who has farmed OP8 gear won’t have to refarm it all over.

Not a huge fan of the idea. Especially this late and how the OP levels currently works. I think 65 skill points is just fine. Maybe not perfect for everyone on every build but fine. Unless they want to re-work the entire difficulty level from Normal to UVHM I really don’t see a point. Something that has been done but much earlier on that other popular looter if I’m not mistaken.

Not a huge fan of rumors either… So I’ll wait and see exactly what it’s about when we see it.

I personally like having the sense of progression of more levels. Don’t really get the “don’t want to farm gear again” mentality since every playthrough requires it anyway and farming gear is part of the reason people re-play Borderlands games - it’s just more reason to keep playing Borderlands!

This post is really toxic. All I’m seeing is a bunch of people complaining because there’s more to do.
No one’s forcing you to refarm gear.
No one’s forcing you to min-max every piece of item you have.
No one is forcing you to play.

As for the extra skill points ruining build diversity who cares?
No one’s forcing you to use those skill points. I for one would love it if you could max our every skill.

It almost seems like they’ve lost focus of what games are supposed to be…fun that is.

Nobody is forced to do anything, this is correct. However, it definitely feels a slap in the face to those of us that have spent countless 1000s of hours dashboarding and looting various creatures for perfect parted(and site preferences) gear.

Honestly, if this was a year ago, Id be fine with illegitimizing my perfect gears(if that indeed even happens) but with a few months til bl3 it doesnt make sense to make folks feel completely invalidated about their decision to participate in endgame farming.

Regardless Ima wait til I see whats what. Just saying, I definitely understand where everybody is coming from…but shitting on peoples time spent endgame farming a few months before the release of a new game(just for a last minute dlc) would be bad taste. Im still excited and worse case scenario, Ill just play the new dlc once and never pick up bl2 again(or at least for a looong while).

I’d like to see any evidence that there will be any changes to gear. So far from what I’m seeing it’s simply more skill points. I’m willing to be wrong. I’m also willing to wait 3 more sleeps.

The thing is it hasn’t invalidated anything. The primary purpose of video games is for entertainment if you’re so wrapped up that you lose sight of that then it is a personal problem. As I have pointed out no one is forcing people to refarm the best gear. If they don’t want to do it then they should just not do it literally nothing changes if they don’t have the best gear on BL2. The intended purpose of the DLC is to give some insight on the events leading up to BL3 everything else is just a bonus and the fact that BL3 is coming out soon just means that increasing the level cap is even more worthwhile as it entices people to play that DLC. I’m sorry but in my eyes these complaints have no justification.

From what I’ve heard there will be a new rarity above legendary, so at least it will be new gear to farm, I doubt we can convince Gearbox to not raise the level cap when it supposedly releases in 3 days.

Gotcha. Not making an argument just stating my opinion.

I admit my response might have come off as a bit antagonistic for that I apologise for that wasn’t my intention my goal was merely the same as yours.

I think getting new levels is cool. All in all Im super stoked. If nothing else Ill play dlc for the story. No beef here. Just hoping they find a way to implement whatever could or could not be implemented in a way that makes everyone happy.

Same here. Will play it to see what level 80 is like and for the story on preparation for BL3 my only real issue is with some of the character designs in BL3 such as Tiny Tina; there is a drastic change in appearance from BL2 I just hope her personality is somewhat similar would be upset if my loveable explosion happy Tiny Tina disappeared.

I personally am glad to hear the level cap raise. I honestly hated how they made the OverPower levels, especially with the combined regeneration.

It killed many ways of playing. And how it also made some of the higher level gear worse because of it. I remember one of the shields would put your health near negative making using it virtually impossible unless you had abused BadAss rank to jack your life total up high enough to cover it.

I honestly don’t think this new level cap will affect any gear if you’ve already reached OP8- the gear itself is already level 80 so why would the new level cap change that? As far as I can see the cap increase is just for character skill points- and for those that say that this will decrease build diversity, I’ll say that that is a complaint that a lot of folks have had about the gear, in that once you got to level 72 (or OP8) that everyone basically used the same gear regardless of character- Pimpernel, Bee, Sand Hawk, GN, Infinity (well, maybe I’m the only one to use the Infinity thru Digistruct Peak ). I intend to get the dlc and play it- for anyone fearing what might change I’ll let you know as soon as I finish it…
