and with an equal level of disrespect, i disagree. you obviously do not understand supply and demand. without the demand, they are simply some guys sitting in a basement working 9-5’s using their extra money to buy software/hardware to make little games for themselves. the consumers, and more specifically the consumer’s money, have enabled gearbox to even be able to be misleading, and/or vague about release dates. they never even gave us a straight up answer as to how many betas there would be following the ctt.
it isn’t hard to be transparent while simultaneously being forthcoming and imprecise. i would have a lot more respect for something along the lines of, “hey, guys, we are going to launch one beta if xyz happens, and we have no clue when that will be. we will have two if xyzzz happens, but we will see. we want to see what happens with overwatch, the division, etc. before we make anything concrete…” this would be way more respectable.
now we can debate what the fan base is “owed” til we are blue in the face, but that won’t go anywhere. i personally believe that if i support a franchise/company for the entire lifetimes of my gaming career, a great deal of transparency is in order. i only ask for it because i am transparent with everyone in my own life.
Well thats honestly your problem right there, your life has no relation to corporate business. These things are typically controlled by publishers like 2k…so maybe youll get somewhere with “game consumer ethics” over on their website?
That sort of transparency is more present in fledgling devs as opposed to those with big financial backers.

Well that’s your opinion, and if you hold onto it you’re going to be sorely disappointed in the future.
Also, gaming is not a career, it is a hobby.
They said there will be a beta and all we don’t know is the date yet. How is that so bad? Betas are usually a few weeks before launch so its a bit early for dates still. Devs for battleborn have been pretty forthcoming in these very forums.

Betas being a few weeks before is actually quite a recent trend. The CTT is much closer to what used to be the norm. And yes they said there will be a beta, but they also said news coming soon since it’s announcement. That’s a very relative time frame. On a game coming out in 2 years, soon could be 6 months later and be very reasonable. On a game that’s coming out in 6 months since they’ve started saying news coming soon, 4 months later (going on 5) is them just being a tease and well past “soon”. We’ll forget all about this once it finally is announced and starts, but til then it’s frustrating
Pretty much confirmed for April now. All the youtubers that went to GBX HQ for the incursion reveal are saying their NDA for story mode details won’t end until the ~24th so I doubt we’ll be seeing the open beta before then.
Randy twitted the beta will be somewhere in April.

I remember a time long past where Alphas, Betas, and CTTs were never given to the general public and the only way to access them was to be a paid tester or certified Press (with a capital P because youtubers and bloggers are not even close to real Press).

Why do we call this a beta if the game has already gone gold?
Well, I assume that it’s a further test of the technical challenges. Gbx will have built in ways of tweaking the balance based on what happens in the beta.

Not to mention a stronger technical test of the server stability. Last go around in the CTT was good but now onto a large scale.
