I’m Sooo excited
Betas being a few weeks before is actually quite a recent trend. The CTT is much closer to what used to be the norm. And yes they said there will be a beta, but they also said news coming soon since it’s announcement. That’s a very relative time frame. On a game coming out in 2 years, soon could be 6 months later and be very reasonable. On a game that’s coming out in 6 months since they’ve started saying news coming soon, 4 months later (going on 5) is them just being a tease and well past “soon”. We’ll forget all about this once it finally is announced and starts, but til then it’s frustrating
Pretty much confirmed for April now. All the youtubers that went to GBX HQ for the incursion reveal are saying their NDA for story mode details won’t end until the ~24th so I doubt we’ll be seeing the open beta before then.
Randy twitted the beta will be somewhere in April.

I remember a time long past where Alphas, Betas, and CTTs were never given to the general public and the only way to access them was to be a paid tester or certified Press (with a capital P because youtubers and bloggers are not even close to real Press).
Okay, time to stop talking about other forum users.

Why do we call this a beta if the game has already gone gold?
Well, I assume that it’s a further test of the technical challenges. Gbx will have built in ways of tweaking the balance based on what happens in the beta.

Not to mention a stronger technical test of the server stability. Last go around in the CTT was good but now onto a large scale.
I would call it a stress test, to be honest. While I am sure they will be open to feedback on gameplay, I am under no illusions that they are far more interested in whether the game and its servers are stable and can endure the loads so the game does not launch broken. Given the test will be at best a month out from launch, perhaps less, there is not much time to gather and analyze gameplay feedback, then make changes and test those changes.
Though the game has gone gold, they’re still patching things (most of these patches will probably be downloaded at once on launch via. the famous ‘day one patch’). I imagine they’re definitely making sure their servers can hold up on launch but they more than likely will be doing bug fixes as well.

what I mean is you just download the open beta via steam/playstation/windows store starting april 6th for preload
