Do we know which battleborn will be immediately available?

The way i see it Dominator3864 is that the devs saw Pheobe as OP with her moveset early in production. If rath, oscar mike, orendi seem as OP as Pheobe did then the devs will decide if they need to be nerfed for the game to be balanced. If thats the case im sure they will take the needed actions to make the game as a whole, balanced.

Its not that they are out to nerf a certain character out of spite, they are trying to make the entire game balanced where no certain character has an obvious advantage over the other unless they are made to counter them.

Oh a lighter note, i get it the character you wanted to main, the character you loved is not as powerful. but again its to make the game as a whole balanced. Hell, maybe they will see that making the skill only silence as too much of a nerf and revert it to stun. There is another 24 characters(PLUS 5 more after launch), is there no other one you want to even try out? Geez you havnt even played in the open beta yet!!!

you make solid points. i actually wrote basically a book when i was at the height of my rage on the developers thread. randy literally replied to me about 20 mins ago… in the middle of the night… on easter. i have spent 3k hours on destiny and have never gotten anything even remotely resembling even being acknowledged. this is the second time he has done something like this and has my utmost respect.

i may have to look into the characters i was annoyed and plagued by in the ctt, as well as the ones that were not even in it. basically out of instinct from playing destiny competitively, during the ctt i did not allow myself to have fun with it in any other way other than just flat out smoking people. i didn’t explore other characters at all. im so used to being concerned about statistics that i didnt just play the game. perhaps i will approach the beta entirely differently

I understand that Phoebe may not be much good for a while (if shes really bad theyll probs buff her eventually) but it might be worth giving some of the other characters a more serious shot during the beta. It is free so theres nothing really to lose there. With a cast of 25 different characters, there’s gotta be at least one other character that you enjoy.

Stun was 2 seconds, not 5. It was a talent that made her ranged ability mark enemies hit for 4 seconds, striking that enemy with the final basic attack in her combo would stun them for 2 seconds. I think they nerfed it to a 1 second mark with a 1 second stun. Bit too much in my opinion, as somebody who played against Phoebe rather than as or with her stun became pretty unreliable if you just strafed because that ranged ability has one hell of a delay on it. Now if you get hit you just avoid her for a while. Her problem on the CTT was that people were just getting to grips with the game and her cc came very early in her helix, made it easy to pick on new players and snowball right from early levels.

It was originally at 5 seconds then nerfed to 2 seconds. Now I don’t think it stuns at all. It silences, which means they can’t use any of their abilities.

Really? I only remember it being 2 seconds on the CTT, but the mark that allowed Phoebe to stun was 4-5 seconds long, gave her too much time to trigger it.

the lowered the duration of stun from 5 to 2, and lowered the window to land the last hit of the combo to something like 1 second. i do not recall what the window was prior, but it was significantly more than that. the nerf put her in a good place. like @mattiwarden said, perhaps an attack speed nerf could have lowered her safely a bit more. they did nerf her survivability as well. i have watched footage of her current silence, and it is extremely weak. and the footage i have seen is a good player playing against bad players, and it still doesn’t even proc. every other crowd control skill that would be used against a rushing phoebe, (blind, knock up, knock back) has an instant effect. there is not going to be a chance to accomplish the silence within that time.

you made a very strong point that people were clueless in the ctt. that is why they were getting merced, seemingly. there was so much hype around phoebe, that a lot of competitive people were gravitating towards her and just obliterating noobs. once the test was coming to a close and all characters were available, and familiarity with their skills was rising, counters to phoebe were getting very strong.

I do feel like Phoebe needed toning down (though she received nerfs in areas that weren’t the problem for me, my biggest issue was her slow bubble that is stronger than Marquis’ (because of the slow clinging to you when you leave, and how long it clings for), slow is a powerful cc in this game, harms your ability to fight back as well as much unless you’re a caster.

Still, her biggest strength during the CTT was that people didn’t like to just run away if their range wasn’t favourable, or watch their flank. I caught most times a Phoebe came in, unless I was already fighting, and first reaction is to just run the hell away because that is her ideal range and you can’t sprint and stab.

I might be a bit biased, because I prefer Caldarius and Benedict who are both very good against her, but I didn’t really have issues as OM either unless the slow bubble came into play. Managed to escape plenty on Marquis too when I just watched for Phoebe flanks, speed bubble and run well before she’s even in teleport range.

I mean, she certainly could have used some tweaks (and gear giving her broken attack speed needed more tweaks), but it was upsetting to see people give up trying so quickly.

sounds like you encountered at least one good phoebe. a good phoebe would use that slow offensively. it was incredible. i loved when i encountered a phoebe that would save their teleport to get away. even if i got tagged by them when not looking (still remember the noise of chirping birds) i could just teleport right where i was already standing as she charged in and there was no way in hell she was getting that combo off in my field. best believe i got mine off lol

Yep, slows are crazy. Public enemy number 1 when I played Benedict was Reyna with her homing marker with talented slow, don’t wanna be grounded :frowning:

benedict was my ultimate nemesis as phoebe. he was the one character i just did not have an answer for when played correctly. my best shot was when he was up on his perch and i could sometimes sneak up behind him and TRY to stun him before he flew away. 9/10 times he got away right before that last hit… and the rocket spam… oh my God the rocket spam.

Yup, Benedict is fuuun. Then there’s the local bridge Marquis trying to shoot you down. I used to have spy games with Marquis, keeping walls between me and him, trying to be the one to get the drop on him to actually beat him in a DPS race because he is death for the bird.

Did you play against many Cals? A good Cal is really good against Phoebe. He can do anything while using his dash passive, so he can just shift to a ranged approach and kite Phoebe around while shooting her, slows don’t really work well either.

i used to laugh so hard at the posts about the benedict/marquis rivalry. such a hilarious thing if you think about it. marquis was easily the nerdiest character in the game, yet he was the absolute nemesis of that damn bird. i hated that damn bird. it was as if no matter where i chose to engage someone, the bird was always overlooking the battlefield just spamming me. i would get away with kills that i would have normally been full health, but instead, if im lucky, escape to the healing station with a slither. then that bastard would just spam rockets and get and angle on the healing station and i could not challenge.

caldarius was someone that i saw drastically improve towards the end of the test. people started to figure it out. some of the games i got beat the worst were games where there were no phoebe or rath, but instead just a competent caldarius, orendi and oscar mike. and i forget if it’s melka or reyna that has the slow field, but that was another one. between orendi and caldarius, i was blind half the game.

the good ones would do exactly as you said with the kiting. and he was very hard to chase. if it was early game and i did not have my gear activated or the attack speed that came at level 7, i could not kill within the stun time. caldarius would get away so often.

I find any character analysis at the moment to be a bit useless UNLESS they got all the pieces that are available to that character. Characters are not just their default skills, stats, and default helixes.

Playing Phoebe without unlocking any of the 5 Helix mutators OR her character-specific Legendary gear and stating that she’s “not good” in this mode or that, or for this reason or that, makes no sense to me. How does that person know if her stun ability wasn’t moved to a Mutator Helix option instead of it being in the default helix? A lot of Ambra’s CTT skills and abilities were bumped to Mutators.

What’s also to say that Phoebe can’t wreck without being able to personally execute a stun? Battleborn is a team-centric game; a character shouldn’t be able to do everything better than anyone all on its own. Plenty of characters can execute a stun, if Phoebe can demolish a stunned enemy (assuming that there isn’t a stun-enabling mutator hidden in her helix), then have a team member coordinate stuns with Phoebe for a similar face-wrecking outcome.

At the comment on SIlence status effect; I think it’s a very powerful tool when used properly against the right opponent. Just because it’s not ALWAYS useful against EVERY enemy, doesn’t mean that it is ALWAYS useless in EVERY situation. The Helix is meant to change your playstyle depending on who your enemies are and/or who your team is. She’s like 1 of like 3 current characters that are known to have a Silencing ability. She’s part of an exclusive group! (For example I wish Kelvin’s Sublimate or Ice Wall could silence enemies :’( )

TLTR: I think it is too early, with too little information available, for people to make definitive statements about a character’s viability.

you bring me a hope that could very well turn into more disappointment. it definitely is a team game, but her role in the team was to be able to, in the right hands, win every 1v1. the same could be said about rath. if she has to rely on team play to win a 1v1, then she has been demoted and someone else has been promoted. i know for sure that if there is no hidden augment, then as she stands right now, rath would steam roll her in a 1v1. before it was an equal fight.

Any character can win a 1v1 in the right hands, Phoebe or not. Wait til you get your hands on the beta and see how things work out.

To keep things on topic, it should be noted that Phoebe is not part of the initial 7 BattleBorn heroes available from the start

i am aware of this. i was very butthurt about this. i will probably just do the pve until i unlock her. idk, maybe not. im assuming that command rank and any statistical information they may or may not plan on tracking will not carry over into the full game, so maybe i will just screw around

Unfortunately you are correct; data won’t carry over to the full game when it drops
Hell, I love a challenge
