I enjoyed the encounter, but it bugged out for me first two attempts. Both him and his empowered minion took damage but didn’t actually loose any health. They were immune essentially.
On third attempt i killed all the ads ASAP to prevent him from empower anything and that worked.
Wow. I just finished the fight tonight on M3. Should have checked the modifiers 1st LoL. Half my loadout was gimped by the modifiers.
But overall, I really had fun in this fight. I was using my Fade FL4K.
When the platform phase 1st started, I groaned to myself as I don’t usually like that type of thing.
But once involved, I rather enjoyed it. A combination of mechanics, but more fun than just sitting in one spot and one shotting a boss. I died twice because of figuring out the platforms, and did go into FFYL a few times but in the end felt satisfaction in beating him.
IMHO I say good job GBX for giving us a more interesting boss fight.
This is a really awful Boss fight. Jump puzzles and a bullet sponge? Plus there’s no ammo that drops!!! No thanks. Ironic that they made fun of jumping games/mechanics in Tiny Tina’s DLC. Guess times change. This is just horrible all around.
it’s not that awful, sure I fell off two time because I was panicky, but once I calmed down I jumped carefully and walked around the edge without hurrying and it was fine. Did not encounter any bugs either.
Sorry, but it’s tedious and unimaginative. Running around in a big square with no ammo drops against an over armored bullet sponge. Nope, Gear Box really whiffed with this one.
Agreed, they need to Nerf him big time! Seriously, theres no need for an EARLY boss to be that freaking difficult. I nearly threw my controller in a fit of absolute rage… Thankfully I didn’t throw it…

The first far away immunity bubble I got lucky on. He gained a ton of shield from it thanks to me not being able to see the 4th crystal (which eventually was broken by a lucky tracker grenade). Second one I realized I had to jump on the rocks, but that was simple. I just jumped on the first one, it carried me to the last crystal and put me position to jump to the falling pillar.
I can definitely see where it would be an issue if the platforms glitch it or something.
For me, the most annoying part was one mob that the scholar connected to had 3 bars and was immune to damage and was constantly getting in my face, blocking my shots on the scholar.
Fighting a level 57 using level 50 gears , it was a long fight for me. Screw those maelchor blocking the empower, seems they are more invincible thayn the boss itself. My hand hurts afterwards meleeing those with melee amara.
I liked it, and I hate first person platforming. I managed to beat him juuussstt before the fight started to annoy me. I feel like there’s a few different ways to take him out, which is always nice.
I died once because I didn’t realise that you could get knocked off a platform. But after that I didn’t find it that difficult. I don’t know if I got lucky, but during his immunity phase no adds spawned in, so could focus fully on destroying the crystals, and I found it was pretty easy to shoot three of the crystals from solid ground and then I only needed one platform to get the one at the back. By and large I’m not a fan of platforming and don’t think it belongs in Borderlands, but overall the fight wasn’t as bad as expected! I think it would have been way worse if there had been adds around to distract you while going for the crystals.
Using Zane, I found the actual boss himself wasn’t that tough. Will have to see if the other VHs have a tougher time of it!
I loved this boss just because of this. It’s something new and added something to the fight that can’t be solved with raw dps power.
(yes, the Wedding Invitation made short work of the things to break, but I let my friend’s Zane do the hard work :P).
We had no glitches when doing the platforming, and I think it’s awesome that they try to mix it up.
Maybe after spending way to much hours into the game and having no challenge in it I was waiting for something like this.
But I think they should be applauded for it, even if it’s a tricky difficult part. If the game was too easy it becomes boring fast (trust me).
I know it’s popular to hate on Gearbox around here, but most of the “please fix it already” comments are BS.
i know right! bl3 has such good movement its great when its utilized. if this was bl2’s old movement im not sure i wouldve reacted the same lol. its another way of adding difficulty to the game that isnt increased health pools
I fall three time before manage to best him, its not that hard, its the tediousness and instant death while learning the platforming pattern that leaves bad taste.
That’s pretty much the raid boss nature. Sure, you don’t need a group of 5 or 10 to beat it. But depending on your routines for the game you need quite a number of runs to figure out what equipment you need much less the movement pattern and crowd clearing you have to do.

If you stay on a floating rock too long, it dematerializes and drops you into the abyss, requiring a do-over.
If you ride the pillar back down, you can get stuck in the terrain and will need to quit out and start over.
Lol, as if they aren’t putting out patches like every week and havent already fixed tons of stuff. People love to exaggerate about game developers. They have been doing a very good job imo
I just used my Scoville. It went on for a bit, and it certainly wasn’t my favorite fight, but I found it fun.
Basically, I recommend you get something with decent splash damage. Scoville worked good because you get an arc to work with, so you can get the crystals from the other side.
Didn’t like it very much either. Died on the first attempt, trying to jump the platforms. Couldn’t see all crystals on the second. Did it the hard way on M4, he recharged every time. With 4 Lobs equipped and the clone I lobstered him to death, with a bit of cutsman Spam thrown in. Luckily, ammo did not run out completely before I had him.
A way to improve this fight might be, if the ratio to which he restores the shields would depend on the number of crystals you destroy, not an “all or nothing” approach?
