I just ran through slaughter shaft with this build many times with no modifiers boosting my damage. But using the cutmans smg does give me a ton of dps on mobs. However I ran the spider build as well and I couldn’t keep my pet alive with dps alone. Using the skills above Im getting great damage bonuses for not being targeted and maintaining full health. I’m also getting a lot Of healing to my pet and the only points I have it doing damage are just to gain access to lower tree skills that give me more dps or healing.

Who rescued who is basically pointless. You can pump out so much damage, but it only takes a couple of hits for your pet to go down

I’ve noticed different results with who rescued who. It was practically all I need to keep my pet alive the majority of the time without having to put points into regen skills.

I was trying it yesterday with a full crit build that did a lot of damage, and I wasn’t able to keep my pet alive at all. Maybe it works better with certain guns.

I’m not using full crit that may be the difference? My build is master hunter with 5 points in stalker

I’m not theory crafting here. With this build (the latest one posted) I’m soloing all 5 rounds of slaughter shaft on mayhem 3 using a cutsman smg and keeping my pet healthy 95% of the time. The only time it takes a big hit is with annointed bombs. I’m keeping gamma burst active and rarely find myself being targeted and in danger. So it’s become a consistent farming option for me with action to keep me entertained. I know the cutsman is a big factor however I also tried other builds with the cutsman and this is the strongest for keeping my pet Alive as well as dealing lots of damage. (The damage boost alone from the skills at being above full health and not targeted are huge)

My build is similar and don’t have issue in M3 either, except like you w/ the stupid annointed purple floating bombs killing the pet in one hit.

You could try using the shield “loop of 4N631” it gives the increased cooldown if it is broken. That way you have the increase both when full and when not. Good for the unexpected aggro

Question for the OP , which weapons , mods and artifacts you use beside the cutsman?

I’m using a corrosive cutsman 99% of the match (since posting I got hex mirv grenade with electricity I now soften them up with as well). I’ll have another weapon to clean up with when there are a couple trash mob left to conserve my smg ammo. The mod is Red Fang, The artifact just gives me luck with some bonus corrosive damage. As long as the modifiers don’t nerf all my smg elemental damage (I can take a hit to elemental dmg if there is a gun damage added); Then I can farm the shaft without much worry. I’m farming now on TVHM M3 and I do find myself in trouble more unless I have perfect modifiers but even still it’s viable and I get several annointed legendaries from it. (My first post was an early build, I’ve since made adjustments in this thread)

I did try your build with the corrosive cutsman and red fang and I did survive with a team until round 3… I died too frequently.
I think maybe you can put points in skills with give you more gun dmg I guess.

Also do you have topped off in the guardian ranks? The point of this build is to have gamma burst active as much as possible while doing enough damage and heals to keep your pet alive as it takes all Aggro. I have most the spawns memorized so that I can position myself on the map to be away from enemy spawns and always have my pet taking the aggro. I also use a shield with very fast regeneration speed. It only has 3000 but if I duck and juke quick I can get away from damage and have it topped off very fast keeping my skill cool down fast. Counting on topped off to do all my cool downs means having a thin shield that can be topped off quick. My health pool can tank most significant damage anyway. (Also team play may hurt this build some: when in am soloing all the enemies are targeting my pet and grouping up giving me a lot of mob hits with my cutsman). Team play works great if everyone sticks by me and lets the pet take the aggro. Red fang works great but it doesn’t turn off the enemies targeting you if you’re close enough, especially when they first spawn.

Would be great to know what you’ve done with your Guardian Rank, as I suspect that probably will have a serious influence on viability, not that we can change our Guardian Ranks, though maybe I’ve just missed this feature.

However, kudos on creating an effective build outside the current crit meta! I too will probably be looking this over for my Fl4k.

The most beneficial perks to this build was getting enough points into hunter tree for the topped off perk. Most my points there went into luck. I don’t have any significant points into gun dmg or Crit damage. Also below is the updated skill build utilizing more gun damage when gamma burst and red fang are active and kill heals to my pet.

The problem that I feel I am facing is that almost any random build (literally, you can put points into almost any tree randomly) can slay the ever living heck outta stuff, if the modifiers aren’t grossly stacked against you. But the spawns and the poor pacing of the spawns are creating a poorly balanced fight scenario that did not exist in Borderlands or Borderlands 2.

However, I am sincerely interested to see how your build progresses as I’m not super fond of the Jabber. He’s just not a terribly endearing pet…

How do you keep your pet alive without burst aid? I have tried builds that do enormous damage, and make my pet tanky, even with who rescued who, I can’t seem to keep them up without it. Is it the cool down reduction combined with red fang?

At this point I’m happy with its performance. I’m not increasing gun dmg with guardian ranks but instead getting more shield regeneration and start delay. I’m now at a point I can take a hit to my shield and have it full 3-4 seconds later. My focus is to always have topped off working and spamming out gamma burst.

My biggest healing is with my cutsman smg being able to hit multiple mobs at once. Because it’s corrosive it tears through the badasses armor. When red fang has them all focusing on my pet I can get easy mob hits. This build only works on the toughest challenge with the cutsman. But it easily handles lesser challenges without the cutsman if you have a weapon with good dps.

Also if your making builds for dps alone you won’t have the health pool to tank the hits like in me build. You can do awesome dps to heal but it won’t matter if you can’t heal in time. My pet has many moments it’s health is in danger but with mutated defenses and a large health pool I can get enough dps in time to kill its attacker’s and heal it. Also don’t sleep on the skills that are drastically giving me damages bonuses when at full health and enemies targeting my pet which is 90% of my fights.
