Crossplay could be sabotaged by unexpected factors, like region lock e t.c.
For example - Borderlands 2 don’t support crossplay between RU and EN versions of the game. In Steam this is 2 different games with mutual saves and different servers, most of the time there were different amount of patches and still RU version don’t have the last DLC.

Let’s face it: after steam release, no one will ever buy BL3 on EGS. So there is no reason to support their version with patches. For 2K will be much MUCH better, if egs-users would also buy game twice because of migration to superior platform. Eventually (after season pass) crossplay will be impossible because of outdated egs-version.

That’s not how it works. They aren’t going to “drop” the epic version. This isn’t a case of localization legalities, it’s a case of store-fronts. Both of which will have access to the exact same version of the game from gearbox.

Not the same. Steam have a lot of integrations and linux support (EGS not supporting almost anything and strictly against linux). Different anti-cheat, drm, overlay, controller support et.c.
2K abandoned support of Borderlands 2 for millions of ps3/xbox360 just because no one buying there anymore. So as in EGS after steam release. Sure, Gearbox will give them season pass, as promised, but majority of gamers are on ps4/xbox ONE and in the long run - steam, where all series are represented. Why bother with supporting another pc version? Besides, gearbox familliar with Valve since Half-Life1 - much longer and better than with Epic.

Again, that’s not how it works.

One word, paranoia.

The fact is - there is a lot of reasons that EGS version will be abandoned faster than Steam version. Some of them just assumptions, based on other examples, that is true. But there is no way steam version could be abandoned at all with such a huge community.

When people start to talk about “abonding game by developer” before it’s even out…

2K abandoned BL1 everywhere. No SHIFT integration. Only remastered as separate game.
2K abandoned BL2 on ps3/xbox360 and partly on pc for some region with huge playerbase.
2K abandoned BL TPS by cancelling new dlcs due to average everything.

Absolutley no reasons to worry about BL3.

You draw some of the most bizarre percieved correlations I’ve ever seen.

Right. Time to read the forum rules, folks.

And cut out the personal anguish, please.

@Pavlissimus Is not entirely wrong though. The assumption that steam will be more popular than Epic, is quite obvious and true.

But just because Epic’s playerbase will be inferior, must not mean that one is being treated better than the other. Afterall, Epic was the initial money giver and I am sure they will attempt to keep a good relation with them even after the 6 months contract.

I am certain, that both version will get supported, as not everyone is willing to buy the game 2 times and there are people who prefer the Epic Store.

我可以和你玩

Epic万岁

Given Steam was automatically supporting Metro when it launched, and showed up automatically on my Steam after I installed it. I think Steam is ahead of the game enough, that they will support it WAAAY before it launches on their platform, if not already next Friday

I’ve booked on Epic that I can play in the dark together.

As a homeless enthusiast, it doesn’t matter which platform I support this game silently. Simply speaking, I like it!

Hi, you can linked you steam account to Epic and play with your friends, anyway server is hosted by Gearbox I remember the terrible laggy sometimes on steam playing Borderlands 2.

Cheers,

@nivekr Does this mean, I could play it via Steam even if I have purchased it on Epic ?

It’s not clear that I bought the game in Epic.
