Yeah I’m kind of just waiting-and-seeing at this point.

Technically not crossplay but the idea behind GOG Galaxy 2.0 sounds good to me as they currently appear to be trying to make a sort of umbrella launcher to keep all your stuff organized between all these different game platforms.

I pre-ordered Borderlands 3 on Epicgames but my friend couldn’t pre-order now.
Now I’m worry about can I play with my friend on PC with different platform?

The game is temporarily removed from the EGS, but it should be back well before launch:

Hopefully we will also get some clarification before launch on whether Steam and Epic users will be able to play on-line together.

Honestly none too keen on crossplay. Particularly because the few games I have played with it more often than not have a lot of lag/latency/etc. that make certain precision things difficult (lookin’ at you Dauntless). I also don’t really play with friends since I’m the only gamer in my circle that doesn’t get motion sickness… which is weird.

I don’t think it would be the worst thing to have, especially if they make sure there aren’t latency issues, though I will say it would be easier for PC players to cheat then drop a bunch of crazy stuff in console games. I imagine they would want to limit that kinda stuff as much as possible, but IDK.

Consoles aren’t cheat or hack free. It just takes a little more effort in most cases. I remember playing Phantasy Star Universe on xbox 360 and there were people duping items, running no clip, god mode, and various other things. Some were even bold enough to post videos of them doing it. The 360 version was on its own servers separated from the PS2 and PC versions.

The argument I hear most often against crossplay nowadays appears on games that already support it which is “Console Limitations”. A console isn’t upgradable in the same sense as a PC unless next gen changes that. As such the game dev could be limited on what they can add to the game down the road because the console has the same limitations it did when the game first launched while PC hardware has improved.

That is a fair point. While it certainly is easier you are definitely right about consoles not being impervious. Limitations hadn’t really crossed my mind much, honestly. A more than fair point given how the PS4 and XBone may be getting new siblings in the next few years. Might have a situation where they re-polish the games for said siblings and if they allow crossplay now, what is the situation then? Didn’t occur to me until you mentioned that…

OH DANG! I almost forgot about PSU. Did you ever run into anyone who had infinite beast mode? I ran into one or two of those in my short run of that game. Sorry for getting off topic, lol. Nostalgia.

Cross-play in the terms of this thread is PC players using either Steam or Epic as their platform. No word on that so far, and no word on true cross-platform play either. Based on past reports and articles, it seems that Sony is still the limiting factor there.

There is a difference between platform (PC, XBOne, PS4, etc.) and storefront (Steam, Epic, Amazon, WalMart, etc.). Storefront has nothing to do with crossplay. Crossplay is a platform element, not a storefront element.

I am very aware of the difference between platform and store front.

I am simply pointing out that this thread is concerned with whether players using the Epic Games store and launcher/friends list will be able to co-op with those using the the Steam store and launcher/friends list.

IOW in this particular case, the store front is also functioning as a platform (much like how the existing console stores/platforms work.). There has - so far - been no word on whether those who purchase through EGS will be able to play with those who purchase through Steam.

I am unaware of any case where a co-op PC game available on multiple storefronts bans PC players from playing co-op with players who purchased on different storefronts. Do you know of any?

So far, the leading candidate is a conflict between Epic and Steam. Which is why the thread title and the ensuing discussion. It has not been an issue with other store fronts to the best of my knowledge, but the EGS is new ground, not yet fully featured, and it’s not entirely clear what will and will not be possible once the EGS exclusivity period ends on PC.

I’ve had this happen in the past with free to play online games such as MMO’s. However its generally due to each host or provider having their own servers and database. As such its about the same as trying to access your PSN cloud saves from and xbox console using xbox live.

Given that Randy is ok with the money, Valve would have to come up with the cash.

(1) That’s a bit harsh
(2) This issue is between Steam and Epic in terms of how they will make their platforms function, with maybe input from 2K. Not sure what Randy has to do with this.

I can’t see why it would matter to them, they have bought exclusivity for a period of time, after that it isn’t.

People are probably more inclined to think Epic will be the problem in the equation if it comes up because of the way they have done a considerable amount to make sure they don’t actually have to compete with steam for sales while saying they are competing with steam. Hence exclusivity deals.

Add to that a number of anti-consumer comments and the stance they openly came out with in the past and the complete lack of features of the EGS store launcher and their “roadmap” that has items slated 6months or longer that should have been available when it launched. And finally the attempt to turn their negative image around with their mega sale which they botched the delivery of horribly causing more negative opinion of their platform and an amount of backlash on some of the dev/publishers they had exclusives with because they had to pull pre-orders off the storefront completely because it lacked an opt out to use. One of said items was this game.

I am planning to buy Borderlands 3 on the Epic Games store and obviously play it through that as my client but my friend who is planning to buy the game to at a later date plans to get it on steam once it releases there which i think is six months later than epic games store.

My question is if me and my friends buy the game on different pc platforms will we still be able to play with eachother and also invite one another?

That is still not clear, unfortunately. You may have to wait until closer to launch date to find out specific details.

The epic game store has github sense it has the unreal engine for devs and everyone else to use built-in to download.

As seen here

What epic did was take their old launcher that was only for the unreal engine and added on the store for games, that is why github is on there. P.S just to add epic also puts together game editters for devs that want/need them that uses the unreal engine.
