Étalon du Cul. (ButtStalion)

My PSN account is set to French. So I get translated title. (I don’t play in French.)
I don’t know who did the translation. I hope it wasn’t a machine…
Was looking at the pre-order (Super Deluxe edition) page and there was something about a Étalon du Cul grenade.
I can only assume it’s a ButtStalion grenade mod.

You know how it sound in French? Ass Standard or Ass Scale.
May be Ass meter?

The “spelling” étalon can be two different words.

  1. Stallion.
  2. Standard (As in a pound standard, a foot standard. ect.

Cul is not the word used in place of Butt. It’s not a “funny name” like bottom or buns. It’s use as Ass. The “dirty” version.

Somehow the funsie is lost.
Just… Don’t translate names… Unless you find something so clever you absolutely have to.

btw. I’m aware it’s a user forum and “The people in power” don’t read it.
Was just my 2 cents of venting.
And I thought someone might find it funny. It kinda is! :stuck_out_tongue:

Hehe. Literally, Stallion of Ass.

‘Butt’ is not really considered a dirty word at all in N. America.

If the translation is lacking in nuance, almost certainly a machine translation! I call it “Googlish”.

It was the translation used in the french version of BL2.

I know that. Just like fesses or derrière are not in French. That’s my point.
Cul is much closer to ass than Butt and that is the word they chose.
I can’t think of a perfect word in French for butt. Beside maybe (in Québec slang only.) Pèteux (“farter”).
A nice “Borderlands style” name could had been Croupe de l’Étalon.
Croupe being the “aft” part of a horse. The butt.
It’s occasionally used in innuendo/smexy way.

-edit-

Beside. The syntax really don’t make you read étalon as stallion but as a standard. A scale.
Show Étalon du Cul to anyone who don’t know what you’re talking about (Borderlands) and what they read is Ass Scale! Might as well had called her metered butt plug

As obscene as that sounds/is, I would think that would make a nasty grenade. Like a BL1 Rain grenade mixed with a proximity mine and a Tunguska grade explosion. I’d keep one in the back pack just for gits and shiggles. :+1:

Well the forums got rather more adult

Hey! I’m not the one in charge of French translation.
They’re doing it by them self.

You said, “Gits and shiggles”. Do you know what a ‘git’ is in colloquial English? :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m not even sure I speak english these days.
I wanna know what a shiggle is. Sounds dirty.

Nope. Slang English, not “Foreign places for 500 Alex”. It means something else.
