Euphemisms and Idioms for "drunk"

ESTONIAN

Täis (full, filled)
Täis nagu siga (filled like a pig)
Aia taga (behind the fence, as in someone is leaning on a fence and they fall behind it because of drunkenness)

I’m sure there’s like 15 more but I can’t remember them at the moment.

Yea. I knew that. I totally didn’t just edit it to fix my mistake…

I’m surprised that tipsy isn’t on the list.

I purposefully left it out. I felt that it was different enough from drunk (a lesser version), and that enough people knew it. But I could add it in if you feel it’s important.

But, be warned, if I add “Tipsy”, I’m also adding “Krunked” (sp)

Ah, that explains it. Anyway, up to you.

Smashed, trashed, ripped, gone, lit, hammered, and wasted are the most common ones I hear around KY and TN. Don’t forget ‘prayin’ to the porcelain god’!

haha. I’ve heard some of my folks use a few of those. Though, to be fair, prayin’ is what happens after

You’re praying when you’re on your hands and knees in front of the toilet. :dukejk:

Man, I’ve been there. So devout.

English:

Smashed, drunk as a skunk, and praying to the porcelain god as has already been mentioned.

Adding:

Swedish

  • Packad (Packed, like filled)

Irish

  • Locked (like a door)

Maggoted is a funny Australian way to say it

What about ‘liquored up’ as one possibility?

There’s a curious Irish description I like, “a feed of pints”. Not everyone knows it but I like it.

I’ve never heard the ear piercingly and elongated “i” sound, and I’m Australian… Anyway:

■■■■■■
■■■■■■ up
Wrecked
My favourite, blue or blue ■■■■■■■ drunk
Blotto. Seriously, how has no-one here heard of blotto?

And now, a great Aussie drinking song!

Yeah I’ve heard of it. Don’t hear it used much. Pissed, or if I’m in Ireland on the piss, is probably the most common.

This is actually a really interesting thread because drunk is one of those states that you use language to describe, but where language itself is surpassed. Pretty much any word will do and people will know what you mean by it if used in the right context, perhaps because drunkenness is such a shared and familiar condition…

That’s because you’re not Australian :stuck_out_tongue:

On the piss is pretty common here, “We’re going to Bazza’s place to get on the piss” or “Johnno’s on the bloody piss again”

The one word almost nobody ever uses to describe a drunken state, is drunk… I think it’s the same as being under the influence of any drug really, over here we call ecstasy “pingers” and if you’re high you’re “pinging” or “buzzing” while being stoned is baked or fried or generally anything relating to cooking, ironically. Never heard boiled, might use that one this Halloween, “■■■■ man I’m so boiled, get me some eggs and chips”
