Face Off: Discussion, Thoughts, and Stories

I just can’t play it because I’m ■■■■■■■ terrible and they nerfed OM. My napalm is wuss ■■■■ now! Also, I suck. And the other team had Ghalt hanging out by the deposit box, hooking and trapping anyone who tried. The bosses showed up, and I thought we would all work together to not die. I actually moved to save the ass of someone on the enemy team. He killed me. We lost 500-39. That was the one and only time I tried.

I like the couple of games I played, it does encourage more of a break up of the teams, less of the 5 man roaming stomps.

Also pay attention to your Varelsi mask collection, I realised I was touting about 115 around, and that I was marked as a target :persevere:

Red bar is savage on this mode because of how frantic it is. My rubber banding Mellka spent most of her time just trying to stay alive. Stressful.

I’ve only played two games but I fear it might be too hectic for my tastes. Mell doesn’t feel especially well suited for it, despite my hopes - her low health gets her in trouble with the Varelsi, and CC from the headhunters can be fatal. Her low sprint speed is sometimes an issue too, when you can’t slide or lunge (sliding is glitchy on red bar, unfortunately.)

It feels like tankiness and stealthiness are vital. Shayne is well suited… she’s got both. I think solo queue in this one has the potential to be seriously painful though, even with ideal picks…

I can imagine, as your well aware it takes some clear understanding of your environment and where people/enemies are, to make the best use of Melka, you can just be swamped if your not careful in this mode

I found using Miko worked well solo, just made sure my guys were topped up, popped the occasional varelsi where relevant

Have won a string of games now with Shayne.

Some characters really stand out in this mode. A good Kleese makes it so much easier - rifts around the dispenser is a huge advantage. Pendles is excellent with sneak and speed, Deande’s life steal keeps her alive on the Varelsi and her decoy is great for handing in, and Shayne is just incredible now. That improved slow, that damage reduction… She can just brawl all over the map, crush gross things, and stealth in for the deposit.

Also saw promising plays from Boldur and Attikus. We had a Benedict who did very well too, but the strong team composition would have helped protect them.

Bring a capture loadout or go home. No legendaries. I used three zero cost gears, including wrench and shard gen, and never regretted it. You can just farm Varelsi over and over, getting xp and masks. Hunter bot stun is absolutely vile and they’re dirt cheap, but I never saw them decide the match. Always worth building though.

All in all, it feels kinda gimmicky. I hope it doesn’t take too much traffic away from Meltdown. It feels much more limited in the team comp you can use and the gear you can bring, and I can tell that a mic’d team will dominate a group of solo queuers nine times out of ten. someone going rogue and forfeiting masks will cost the game.

I need to figure out how to have fun as Mellka in this. Dedicated assassin, maybe, but she lacks sustain, stealth, or tankiness. It seems like she’d be strictly inferior to a Pendles, Deande, or Shayne. Early days. I’ll make it work.

It’s fresh, it’s new, it’s chaotic. I think it’s going to become a lot less popular in the coming weeks.

Like, right down there with capture in popularity.

People have been complaining forever about maps not allowing options or focusing too much on single lanes. This mode does have things all over the place, but only one depository. I’ve only played a few game so far, but unless it was a stomp every game turned into a skill/ultimate cluster around the depository when 1 team was close to winning, ’

Maybe that’ll change when people get more used to the game type and develop better tactics, but right now it’s worse than overgrowth for forcing team fights.

@HobbitWarrior

Yes, there DEFINITELY needs to be multiple depositories.

Why even bother to hunt Barelsi when you can just hard defend the turn in point and Rob enemies of THEIR masks when they go to turn them in?

Maybe if she still had her stealth…

I love it. It’s a huge improvement on Capture, retains the importance of team movement and team fights, and makes leveling fun. It’s a fantastic mode.

I think Kleese is easily countered by team fights, from what I’ve experienced.

Edit: just played a team with a Boldur, Isaac, and Kleese, and I played S+A, specced for shields and geared with an edge of Arcvynorr, zero shard, and Vibro-core. They fell easily to my shield stealing hands!

So…It is a mode where you kill monsters to get points to put into a thing to get ACTUAL points. Players can kill you to get your points to put into the thing to get actual points. You can also put money into things to bring more monsters to kill to get points to get POINTS. And buy minions to help kill players to make them get points slower, and help kill them to get thier points. Does the game describe what the boss fight is for? I cant remember.

Anyways, yeah it’s a very confusing mode with a lot of explanation needed. Especially for newer players. There is a bigger pool of experienced players who will crush them right now. And newer players may hold back the team, not on purpose, but because they don’t know whats going on yet. You gotta do all those things while also keeping yourself from getting wrecked from a Pendles. Pendles is quite powerful in this mode.

I think this mode MIGHT work well if everyone on the team is in a group and is able to speak to each other. If they aren’t all cordinated then it can become a downhill clusterfuck. Of course every game is like that but a team needs to be together when killing monsters, killing characters, building things, attacking the boss…Yeah.

@GattlingCombo

How did you get that last word to come out uncensored?

?!! I can’t use clusterfuck? Is it bad? Seriously lol.

Clusterfuck.

Holy forums censor loophole Batman!

I have bypassed the censor in some of my Battleborn debate topics before. Mellka insisted. :stuck_out_tongue:

@EdenSophia

Naughty!

It seems that team coordination is much more impactful in face-off than in the other game modes

Found a use for pendles with some of my group, I was just a mask depository when they teleported. I avoided engagements and simply ran through when they were dying. Ended up with a few hundred masks at one point

This sounds like a game changing idea. Perhaps the ideal team comp is formed of Kleese and two couples, one PVE wrecker and one who can safely drop of points
