"Failed to establish online game session"

I am trying to queue with a buddy on ps4 and it keeps popping up with Matchmaking Failed with the error “Failed to establish online game session”. It always happens after about half the spots are taken up and kicks out whoever isn’t the host. We can both join games just fine separately and are in a ps4 party together. Anyone else having this issue.?

Edit:also would like to add we have both tried making the lobby and have tried restarting our ps4s.

Also having this issue. We played together yesterday too. PS4 USA

Been having this issue all night as well. Can’t connect to any Public Games, can only play in private games. : /
Always receive the “failed to establish online game session” every time I try a public match.
On PS4 in Canada.

Ok so it wasnt just us. We couldn’t find anything online about the issue. Bummer, It threw a wrench in our evening plans. What’s worse is I decided to give two incursions a shot by myself in public and both matches started with only 4 people on my team vs a full team of 5…

The game is starting to give me a little bit of buyers remorse…

It’s alright. Just played an incursion with 3 players lol

We are having this problem right now and last night as well. How can it be fixed?

After having several issues I may have found the simple reason…gearbox’s servers simply struggle to connect to the PSN to identify the PSN account and so the corresponding data can’t be matched to the request of the player before a timeout happens. So it doesn’t matter even if the player has the best possible connection.

The only thing strange is the random pattern and that it seems to spread to more and more players (maybe progressing as their personal save-files on the gearbox servers become bigger and more and more “dead-accounts” and new players pile up).

I play splitscreen and get a lot more error messages than when playing solo.

Similar problems.

Failed to establish online game session.
Internal server timeout.
Player authentication failures.

you name it.
