Fairly new sal player

Ok so I got sal to op8 a while ago and played him a little but very quickly got bored and now I just see him as a gimmick/glitch reliant character. Mainly because i only ever see anyone use him for DPUH/Grog, Pimp/Ahab and rocket jumping.
Am I wrong in thinking this? Are there less cheap and more fun ways to play him at op8 that are still viable?

Dunno if it’s anything particularly special or unique, but I use this build with a Leg. Gunzerker COM and elemental Hyperion shotguns (Thinkings, Interfacers, and Conference Calls primarily) and an off-hand slag Rubi. The idea is to exploit the Hyperion accuracy boost to hit crits as much as possible (yes, Sal can crit with a bit of skill)…I think of it as the Critical Sal build.

And Derch’s vids are WELL worth the time.

Also check out any build based on the Hoarder COM, like Kittehzerker or any basic Lyuda build.

Almost none of the time trial runs use Harold/Grog or RL/Pimp, so that should tell you a lot about the diversity.

Who is really the best at mobbing amongst vault hunters (in terms of speed)

3rd - Salvador - Salvador was beaten by Gaige and Anarchy, and Bloodsplosion Krieg in mobbing, did not see any Deputy builds in mobbing though.

Almost all Sal entries for mobbing are using a Sniper rifle, either the Moloko, the Lyuda or the Pimp, and that playstyle is too different for the Deputy setup to compete.

I would suggest you start by watching a few of the top runs on YouTube to see if it is even feasible.

These guys know of the possible builds to use and they probably tried it already with a Deputy to try and get a better time.

That would be wise, which I am not.
I just did this last night after power leveling a friend from 0-40. I decided to run through with the Dep Build. not a very impressive time by any means, but its a starting point that i can “gaige” from.

Full on Chuck80 build. Roll with deputy. Speaking of Deputy, when I see sal players online with ranDUMBS, all I ever see, is norfleets, harolds, and Pimperhab. So, go Deputy sal for general sal builds.
