Been playing almost non stop since the beta dropped, and now I would just like to throw out my opinion on a few things in this game. I have played games such a Borderlands, Dota, Paragon, Smite, Ect… a good mix of both genres this is inspired from.
You should not be able to activate sprint while taking damage. This has happened to me game after game especially with melee champions. I am winning a fight, about to get a kill and then they simply run away at full speed and there is little I can do about it.
The map is extremely cluttered. I have seen this on many other topics but I just wanted to agree here. Story mode seems fine, but in PvP its just a huge mess. There is way too many objectives to potentially worry about. Turrets, Orbs, and Robots everywhere… most of which can be wrecked in seconds even fully upgraded.
Remove the time limit in PvP. I dont see any reason why a game should end before its actually over. I have had a lot of games that my team started out losing but began to finally come back… just a few minutes too late. End up losing by default because the timer ran out on us even though we had the momentum in our favor.
Certain heroes like El Dragon and Kelvin have stack build ups. I understand there is some graphic signals to inform you that your building stacks, but there needs to be a definitive counter on screen for characters like this.
Let me bring up the mini map in PvP. There is no option to allow this… since it shares a button with teleporting back to base. I think one should be set to just clicking it, and one should be set to holding down the button.
3rd Person View - I know this topic is back and forth on the forums, but I definitely side in favor of having this option. The devs say they will not do this because borderlands didnt do it… but this isnt borderlands… this is battleborn. I understand thats your other big successful game… but stop comparing them like this is borderlands 3. I have also seen people suggesting you would be at an advantage by being able to swing the camera around corners. for one its not an advantage if everyone can do it… and two many other games like paragon, and smite have this feature and its no where near broken there. The camera in this mode heavily benefits a ranged or caster character… but melee suffer greatly in my opinion. Its simply too easy to leap over a melee head and disappear.
Revert The Matchmakling System - This changed last night. It was stated it would help with que times. However, I never had an issue with que times. Usually found my games in 45 seconds or so. But now I do have a huge issue with leavers. They dont get the game mode they want so they just bail and reque. Additionally you can not play advanced or hardcore mode with a public group now. I wanted to try and tackle this but I only have one friend who plays with me and we cant pull it off with just us.
Skins - This is not game breaking… but the simple color swaps is pretty boring. I expected more effort here.
Classic Moba Mode - I really hope you guys plan to put in a classic moba style mode. The typical 3 lane set up with some jungle creeps scattered throughout the map. Towers and Barracks are pre-established. A simple mode without all the bells and whistles you guys have added so far. The core objectives are to kill enemy heroes and eventually the enemy base. Incursion is similar but the map has no symmetrics to it and its over filled with too much other non sense… plus again its timed.
Voice Chat - Would be a really nice addition if I could speak to my team mates over the headset.
AFKs/Leavers - Need some heavy kind of punishment for these guys. Its pretty out of control. I would also be ok if their hero was taken over by an AI… at least you would have something backing you. Most of the out numbered games I played were over before they even started…
Phase Out Allied Heroes who are close to you. This happens to me regularly. You get in a lane with a huge ally like Montana who takes up your whole screen. I cant seem to shoot through him, and even if I am the enemy hero is long since moved… I get pinned behind him as well. I would like them to phase out of the way so I can at least keep track of the enemy hero and where they are running.
These sort of detailed responses are exactly the type of discussion which helps developers pinpoint the desires of the users.
I commend you on them.

I don’t think I agree on any of these other than three, but yeah, your opinion n’ stuff. One thing though:
There are currently hidden skins. One type of skins you can get are additional color swaps from packs, and another type is currently unattainable special texture changing skins like making Benedict into an american eagle, or Kleese into a zombie + brain chair.
I agree with everything except for number 3. I actually like that games do not take 1 hour or more, although if they add a classic moba mode, i would like the timer to be removed for that mode only.
This would make melee characters kind of invincible. The idea is that a melee character will be better than the ranged character at melee range. This would make getting hit once by melee pretty much a death sentence. Also, assassin characters, the ones intended to be able to hunt down enemy battleborn usually have some type of abilities that prevents them from getting away.
Games would go on wayyyy too long and I think 30 minutes is a pretty good limit.
Then use a CC or have a teammate cut them off. As well, you do not always need a kill. Forcing them out of lane to heal up is huge. They do not get to farm, harass or anything.
Beta has been out for 2 days and the maps are too cluttered? Play for two weeks and come back after you have a solid idea of where everything is. It feels cluttered because the maps are NEW. Not enough time playing the game.
Time limit is okay. Forces people to actually play, not turtle. A game of Incursion could go on forever due to single lane. A real MOBA map would be different.
Agree. Some sort of number system or something next to abilities to show stacks.
Agree. Let a button be used to enlarge mini-map. Seems like an easy thing to code in.
NO. NO. NO. This is a First Person Shooter. Anyone who would play in 3rd person would have a huge advantage over anyone playing in FPS mode. It would force everyone to play 3rd person if they wanted to compete. Makes you actually pay attention to the mini-map and what is going on around you. Do not overextend.
Honestly, I run with a team of five so I get leavers left and right on the enemy team, whether it is due to them getting destroyed or not wanting to play that gamemode. I agree, should be able to choose the gamemode specifically we want to play. A vote system in place for map though wouldnt hurt.
Only color changing skins in Open Beta. They have 3 tiers of skins that will be in the launch of the game. It is a Beta, can not have everything in the game, why would you buy the actual game then.
Perhaps. I know they have played 20 or so different gamemodes in Battleborn and will be releasing more gamemodes in the future. We will have to see what Gearbox believes fits in this game. I do not know if a traditional MOBA Mode would work in Battleborn.
Agreed. Believe this will be in the full launch.
They can not join a new match until the one they were in completes.
This is either your own positional error or a teammates. This will get better over time as people get better at the game and what they should be doing.
1st. Normal skin color changes.
2nd. Expanded on this, themes, like zombie kleese, American Eagle Bennedict.
3rd. Premium skins, might have small hitbox changes, etc.

I agree that first person overall is fine, but some skills are extremely disorienting to use in first person. Take Kelvin’s Sublimate - it works fine because you get a 3rd person view, so even though you are moving very quickly you can keep the environment around you in mind. But then take Phoebe’s Phase Shift - using it in tight quarters can be extremely difficult to manage, you will often end up facing directly into a wall and have no idea where the enemy(ies) you just debuffed have ended up relative to you. Giving a pulled back third person view as Phoebe warps in would be very useful, and it has enough of a delay on activation and before she can act again to accommodate this.
That is just practice. If you play 50 games with Phoebe, you will learn where and how you phase in. I would rather have the game maintain a FPS in all aspects it can for balance reasons.
Agree on 4,5, and 12. EDIT: Numbers are displayed incorrectly because of the forum, not me.
EVERYONE would only play Galilea. Land the stun and they are effectively dead to rights.
As the above stated, we don’t really know if the maps are cluttered, or if these maps are cluttered.
Incursion matches would go on for upwards of 30+ which is just way too long.
As an option, this would break the game. It would be like playing a deathmatch mode in GTA V; playing in first person would be moronic because the person in third person can do things you can’t, like check corners without revealing themselves.
I assume their doing this to cut queue times. There is a post about why exactly, but I’m unsure which.
Clarified above and not repeating at the risk of being redundant.
That would make it too similar to other games. Battleborn needs to stand out if wants to compete with other Hero Shooters. Other games do it much better, so they would essentially be playing catch up.
Isn’t this…in…the game?
There’s a separate thread about this very thing, so tl;dr no easy answer to this. I do think their should be a heavier punishment for people who manually exit the game.
I agree just with 4 and 11. We need a more severe punishment against AFK / Leavers, prevent them from playing while the game is happening does not seem enough. Perhaps something like 20-30 minutes without playing PVP mode.
This was precisely my sentiments during the CTT. I don’t understand half of the design decisions regarding transitions to third person camera. It occurs during certain skills that require finesse in aiming, on death, and the biggest offender, on incoming stuns. It’s entirely jarring and makes me feel like I’ve done something obviously wrong. The implementation of third person camera as an option would be a huge boon to melee characters, so that rather than perceiving your attack range as “when your crosshair is red,” you could visually see how far your blade/axe/claws/fans/fists reach. But barring the toggle option, I would firmly be in favor of removing third person all together. In the vast majority of first person shooters, third person is reserved for when you are watching a kill cam, in those brief moments when you no longer control your character. As such, it would be nice to have a dedicated perspective over your character, rather than swapping in and out of views for silly reasons.
3- Disagree, games last beyond this point would simply be too long and the action may even get stale within any single match. As an additional note however I find comebacks very difficult to pull off during the incursion game mode, I have had one or two but for the most part I believe the momentum gained after destroying the first… Big deadly robot is too much- For example I believe any structures the defending team had established are destroyed upon destruction of the first objective, which may be a bit excess.
4- Agree, most likely something already planned… Seems kind of basic and maybe they couldn’t get it in before the beta.
5- Agree.
8- Agree, a little disappointed the only skins APPEAR ( as I believe I heard one is able to unlock unlisted skins?) to just be color varients.
9- Agree, something a little closer to a classic MOBA mode would be nice I suppose…
10- Agree, but I think that is already implemented.
11- Agree, I’m sure either a report system or a automatic punishment system will be created/improved upon on, or slightly after, official release. Also an AI or some form of compensation to make up for the lack of a teammate would be heavenly, although it’s also expected.
12- Agree, I think some form of phasing out teammates would be extreamly helpful… Any thoughts on reducing the unit collision done by teammates at the least? I find it very frustration to be stuck retreating or chasing because I am caught on some minions or an allied hero, both of which take a few attempts to jump over or bypass.
Disagree entirely here. Sprint is extremely useful, but it doesn’t make characters invincible, I’ve often been backed into corners where I can’t sprint away, partially due to my lack of awareness, but also due to other player’s skill. If you take away an escape route for many, it would be an incredibly unsatisfactory experience. Also, as stated earlier, if you force people to run, you’re already disrupting their progress enough to give your team some advantage. Kills are not always necessary to win.
I’ve also not had many issues with people running away. It has happened a handful of times, but I like to chase. This is perhaps because I use Thorn, so long-range targets are my goal, but it feels so much more satisfactory to me when someone has sprinted away and I’ve caught up and destroyed them.
I know that this is an issue brought up constantly. But I think that @devyn_stroud is right. The maps appear to be cluttered because everything is new. There is so much to take in, especially as there is no tutorial avaliable. But once the game is not new and you’re used to them, I don’t think they’ll feel as cluttered.
I don’t want to lose any of the information supplied in the mini map, I find everything to be useful and I don’t feel as though they’re cluttered. But I know that is not the majority opinion, so if I do have to lose some information I guess I’ll have to deal with it.
It probably feels like I’m disagreeing with everything here, BUT…
I strongly disagree with this. Maybe it is because of when and how I play. But I like to know that there is a maximum time that a match will go on for. I tend to play 6pm GMT until around midnight, 11pm if I have an early gym session in the morning. As such, I know that at 10:30pm I have time for at least 3 matches before I need to hit the sack. It is nice to know, rather than "ohhh errr, this could finish in 20 minutes, but it actually could go on for 50. I like certainty with timings, because I like to maximise the amount of time I can play within certain given boundaries. This is why, I don’t play story missions if I have to go out or go to bed, because of the uncertainty.
Also I find that usually my matches have been going on for around 15-20 minutes, rather than 30, as people have been playing more and more. I’ve had 2 or 3 timeout, but very rarely, in my experience, is a win decided due to timing restrictions. Therefore, removing the time limit, to me, seems redundant, as it doesn’t often come down to 30 minutes, as the moment.
I like the idea of being able to remove time limits for private matches though.
This is something I do agree with! Mini map to big map is useful! It would be nice to be able to pull it up at certain points during the game. Although I do realise there is a lack of button real estate. Maybe use a touchpad press (not hold) to bring up the scoreboard as well as the map, using L2/R2 to flip between the two?
Disagree. Pretty much all the reasons said by others. FPS.
I’ve already made my feelings known in another topic here. Also, I believe this was addressed by staff in another topic - it was said that it won’t be like this on launch day. So I can deal with the versus system being awful for the duration of the beta. However, if you guys can change it back, that would be much appreciated. I don’t want to play 5 Meltdown matches in a row, I want to play Incursion!! Taking away choice from an already limited sample of the game, was not a smart move, in my opinion. Wait times weren’t THAT bad aside from day 1!
Agree. When things don’t go your way, and you don’t get the game mode you want, or your team are losing, or whatever it is, that means you want to let your team down, don’t quit - power through! I believe Wheaton’s Law applies here. However, there should definitely be some sort of punishment to desuade others from leaving their team a man down, other than “oh you can’t join another game until this one is over”.
Agree!! Some characters are so massive, they take up pretty much the whole screen. You can’t do anything until they’ve gone. As said before, I play as Thorn, so getting in on the action and running around massive ally isn’t always an option if I want to stay alive! And it isn’t always physically possible either!
Apart from those issues - tutorial, tutorial, tutorial!! Thanks.
EDIT: I know this won’t happen, but still would love progress to be carried across from beta to retail release. But thought I might as well say it anyway lol.
