No it’s not. He’s a moderator, not conversation police. You don’t step in because a conversation is dragging on too far, you step in when people are breaking the rules.
No rules were broken and infractions were doled out – more over, still no rules were broken and he posted that. He could have just as easily sent one PM with 2 recipients and asked them nicely instead of attempting to look like some half cocked authority figure in an attempt to shame them into discontinuing the conversation.
You were one of the two who weren’t breaking any rules, you were one of the two that he made look foolish with that post. It was inappropriate, so I flagged it as so.
He is a moderator – he represents Gearbox, and theforeby; his behavior reflects Gearbox. By extension, every thing he types should represent professionalism. This was a clear demonstration of how NOT to behave as a professional moderator.
You also DO NOT DOLE OUT INFRACTIONS when users point out that employees are saying things that are NOT true. You apologize and put out better notes in the future. To defend undocumented balance changes in a strategy game is beyond absurd, to then dole out infractions when the users note that no other company with a product in the same space behaves this way is reprehensible.
Gearbox is falling apart. The quality control is negligent, the outsourcing is real, the behavior on their official forums reflects the work ethic… You should not blindly respect such a disrespectful company, more over, one that has only one breakout IP [which objectively ins’t even that good.]
We all want a good product here, but Gearbox post launch support is historically horrible, when they can’t even spend the effort writing proper patch notes, how can you expect anything professional out of these guys anymore?
This is called consumer doubt. It’s a normal part of business, when you see consumer doubt rise – you’re supposed to tackle it with better public relations, not laugh at the consumer and snicker and say “We can’t possibly document our changes” when every other professional company in the same market space has no problems doing so.
