Fl4k is the most balanced character atm. Hits like a truck, and you have to work to improve your survivability instead of getting all your health back in two shots like Zane or Amara.
Fl4k doesn’t need to be touched when it comes to that imo.

I played GB Fl4K for a long time too. Swapped to low-life (LL) with loader shield and 50/150 weapons. It’s great. If the Burst-Aid on the skill-tree would instead of health-regen give shield-regen it would increase my FL4K’s survivability even more!

I am in no way a fl4k expert but I play him to get by during these gray areas we have. I feel he’s more challenging than the other VH’s to find that “perfect” build. I feel I had one till the projectile nerf so did some research. Now as a reply to the op survival question I use the red fang build with the urad setup. Running these together feels good but to handle stragglers that do target me the urad and pearl mod do just fine. I in no way have the experience to offer any technical suggestions but I have spent quite a bit of time researching and love this build. Im going to keep an eye on this thread for further tips tho lol.

@YIPIKIYA If you are running a Urad/Pearl/Front Loader setup with a Red Fang and you like that, I would suggest you try the Urad/Deathless/Transformer option. I know it is counterintuitive that running a Deathless would result in more survival, but it does because of the way the Deathless interacts with Shared Spirit and Hive Mind. The pet takes most of the damage for Fl4k that way and you won’t even miss the Pearl.

Ok I will try that but what deathless do you think would be best? There’s so many variations.

@YIPIKIYA My suggestion would be any prefix Deathless that has AOE as a passive. You get your most bang for your buck out of that passive, especially with URad radiation being a major source of your damage. If we’re talking about min/maxing here, an Atom Balm Deathless would be ideal as it will further boost the effects of radiation. A Flesh Melter Deathless also works great but is less consistent with the theme of the build. A Snowdrift would also be pretty cool.
I have a Deathless with movement speed, AR damage, and AOE, and that’s about the best one I have. An ideal one for my personal playstyle would be an Atom Balm Deathless with movement speed, mag size, and AOE. One with the radiation damage passive on it would also be really good.
Just a few thoughts. I’m pretty sure a friend sent me a good one the other day
and I am not sure I am going to use it because I was able to find the one above (after hours of farming Phoenix LOL). You want me to send you one? Be glad to.

Is @tysonyar said, the prefix on a Deathless isn’t really all that crucial for FL4K. I like either a Snowdrift or Ice Breaker.

Thanks. I’ll check it in a bit. What grenade do you use for this setup?

Any grenade with an OGT anoint. As always though, a Hunter-Seeker works best. This is the build I use.

For this specific skill tree spec, you’re going to need a Red Fang with points in He Bites and Ferocity. You can move points around however you want, but the build requires at least 2 points in Hive Mind and a point in Shared Spirit or else it doesn’t work. You don’t technically need any points at all in the green tree, but Lick the Wounds is really helpful for this build because you will go down some (you are rocking 0 health, after all) and sometimes you get downed by Death if you are using Post Mortem as a modifier (which I usually do).
Weapons I run (all in URad, although GB anointed works too, just not as well because it is not always on):
Plaguebearer
Reflux
Light Show
AR, Sniper, or SMG of your choice (Monarch, Flipper, Complex Root, or Storm all work really well)
I may actually write this build up at some point, it is really strong and has tons of survival.

Im using Its Piss with OGT right now so im good there. Your skill tree is almost like mine. LTW skill is a must with Fl4k right now especially if your pet dependent. Im going to try that Deathless but i just got a Red Fang with action skill damage ill try before i start switching a bunch of gear. I want a platform to start from and im testing it in the Anvil with those stupid anointed so well see.Oh and thanks for the extra goodies!

Just keep in mind that Shared Spirit only activates once you’re below 25% health. That’s the real justification for running the Deathless and Transformer as opposed to the Front Loader and Pearl setup. Good luck! And you are welcome as always!

My bad, I thought it was 25% but maybe it is 33%, sorry if I gave bad info. My point really should have been that the Front Loader doesn’t decrease your health enough to have Shared Spirit always on, which plays a big part in making the build work, IMO.
I think the life steal anointed for Flak should of been tied to a skill like the one in the green tree top mid. (Forgot it’s name but it increases your pet’s damage and refreshes your attack command faster.)
Health regen is nice but in endgame like you said life steal craps all over it. I really think giving Flak someway for him to gain health by doing damage (life steal) whether that be after using his attack command, from his pet’s damage, or from the hunter skills. Something like that would free up more builds all around with better survivability rather than the same old thing.
Heck to me at least burst aid could be improved so Flak can be more mobile with it. Moving around with a healing rift around him at all times could shake up things for Gamma burst builds.
I wouldn’t say balanced
lets be honest all four of the vault hunters are broken. (Well at least they all got something broken about them.)
However that’s not me saying that’s a bad thing.
I just think well this is kinda unfair a bit if you think about it.
Moze, Zane, and Amara can do so much with good survivability however Flak can be really good at dps but bad at survivability in a lot of builds. While yes that makes him somewhat of challenge character to learn how to master. The same could be said about when I play Amara without sunstainment. That took a lot of attempts to finally get it going right and it still struggles from time to time.
They also gave Moze a life steal add on to one of her skills a while back so I figured if they can do that. Why not give something like that to Flak? Heck why not give the mod idea you made for Moze to Flak instead of the bad one from dlc one? There’s ways to improve and fix this problem and I would hate to see the other 3 vault hunters just keep growing stronger all around while Flak on the other hand remains the same. Sure he’s gotten some buffs and improvements but if there was anything left to fix about him that would be his survivability.
This would be a great big help and change to how people play Flak.
What’s broken about Fl4k ? Tell me about it, curious to get your point of view
also, I think Fl4k is fine as it is, and the “fl4k needs lifesteal” is a meme that needs to die. You don’t need lifesteal when you hit like a truck and when FFYL is a joke with guardian perks. I don’t want all 4 VHs to be clones who can dps and lifesteal at the same time.
