extracted the hw1ships and 2 ships big files, they use the same style ship files, i wana try making the kush int a squadren of 5 or 7 but i dunno if i need a big file made for it or if my dir structure isnt right which atm its Homeworld\HomeworldRM\Data\ship\kus_interceptor

There’s already a mod on the workshop that does that.

yeah saw on relic forums, man tho im using unfbig to create a big file of the ship/kus_interceptor but its not building, why.

Awesome! I’m trying to create a bugfix mod for the Remastered campaign and this is exactly what I was waiting for!

First up is looking into auto-balancing for the HW1 campaign (especially for guard missions, e.g. spawn the frigates further from the turrets). Second is making it optional to auto-warp at the end of HW2 missions. Third is to create new HW1 corvette attack scripts that account for turret angles. After that, misc. fixes and super-hard/super-easy modes for campaign purists and re-players.

The future is looking bright for Homeworld right now.

A tip.

Make a big file with what u alter with unfbig (its weird tho as outputting wouldnt work much for me except the once). Anyhow so u have a big file now with edited files. Put that in homeworldrm data folder where all the big files are. Edit the commandline for steam for the game and put -overrideBigFile -dlccampaign YOURBIGFILEHERE.big making sure u edit the yourbigfilehere to what your actual big file was named as. Mine was just test.big so…

Now i have kushan ints in a squad of 5 and are 400 speed. Small tweak but its just a test, this way i can test locally and not upload to steams workshop besides i dunno how to do steam workshop with the tool they gave for hw, portal i could do but hw tool for workshop is not very helpful when you type help lol. No guides or nothing.

and neither would you need to. steam workshop is just laziness and complacency enabler.

Inception!
Thanks to Monty for the tool!

Very nice. A pity it doesn’t work on Homeworld 1 classic’s big file though. :frowning:
Has anyone yet managed to get in there?

Homeworld classic bigs aren’t obfuscated - use any old HW1 .big extractor to extract them

I have a strange feeling we might be able to mod in hw cata later thanks to big decryptor. I mean hw1 is basically a mod for hw2 so we could just do what gbx did to do cata using the way they did hw1. The only issue I see being a issue is how do we use the hw1 parts like exe to do it. Maybe if all cata only features could be modified enough to work within the limits of the engine it won’t need the cata only code from source. That or drop certain features like siege stuff, crystals and infection beam and joining ships etc. Hell who knows till some one tries I guess.

BTW did anyone find any useful stuff to fix formations scattering when attacking. I may have but not sure tbh.

Well them breaking formation when attacking is only one problem. The entire attack and flight behavior is just wrong.

@montymintypie: Have you tested this? I installed Homeworld 1 from my original game cd and I can extract the big file with any big viewer. I can’t use the same viewers on Gearbox’ version, leading me to believe Gearbox also encrypted this file.

Can you please tell me what tool you used if you managed to extract anything?

My mistake, it seems the data files are somewhat modified. They aren’t protected - just different

We’ve removed the link from this post. While discussion of file decryption for purpose of modding is okay, we cannot have links here on the Gearbox forums that talk about how to illegally obtain music files or or other game data.

I don’t see a good modding scene stay on gbx forums if that’s the stance for tools that help modding the game or extract the music so they can play in their media players etc.

I mean its at relicforums the very same forums where relic are and for their games which hw came from. If they were OK with these types of modding and tools, what has gbx to complain about.
