Just tried, disabled the network, then turned off the ps4, then booted back up, played for maybe 10 min. Then it froze.

I got by the mission today. Instead of me hosting I joined someone else and hoped it wouldn’t crash, and it didn’t. I was still using my action skill a lot and I wouldn’t know since I really didn’t pay attention to the crash occurring after my action skill being used. It seems very random, though. The freeze has happened only twice on my new Athena playthrough and about 15 times on Nisha before I even moved on to TVHM.

I apologize that we did not respond to this thread sooner in the day.

The patch released today (10/29) contained some stability improvements that we hoped would help prevent these crashes but were not certain it would be a true solution. Unfortunately, the issue is still persistent.

We currently have a conversation going with Sony as we continue to investigate a solution, and we will continue to follow and update this thread as more information surfaces.

Thank you for continuing to provide information, videos, and the items we have asked of you. This helps us to nail down the issue quicker than only using our own investigation.

I will do a better job, moving forward, to update our community team with any changes that we are able to communicate. Thank you for your patience. We will continue to work our asses off in pursuit of correcting this issue.

cheers, hope you guys manage to squash this bugger soon :+1:

I’m still in the same boat with everyone else. Downloaded the patch early today and got to play tonight. I just got done banging my head against it, and I’m not really sure I even want to play BL2 now -which has been working fine prior to the patch; not sure as of yet if the patch screwed with it- simply because TPS frustrated me so much -again.

Here’s my experience in the hour and a half I managed played the game tonight:

Spent my entire time in Motherless Board, Nexus and Cluster Pandora. The bulk of the time was spent doing BA challenges in Motherless, simply to test if the patch helped and to not immerse myself too deep if it didn’t. Things felt like they were going fine so I decided to do some side stuff in Nexus and Cluster Pandora (Id and Ego quests, The cookie quest ect.) When i wrapped those up and decided to at least move on to Cluster Overlook so I could maybe start to move on with the story… welp, when I was going up the building to the door to Overlook in the Motherless Board (a structure i had been in a few times while running around in the last hour plus) I had my first freeze.

Okay, maybe it was a freak thing. So I closed out the game (dashboarding and forcing a shutddown still works) and messaged a friend for a little while then restarted fresh from the dashboard. 3 or so minutes later, same area, frozen again. Rinse, repeat. Let out a big sigh, then I came on here to throw my updated 2-cents…

Here are a few additional, weird, things about that hour and a half I noticed:

1st was somehow managed to get a bug where the orange data stream effect stuck around on me when I wasn’t in the stream anymore. It was annoying but went away with a save/quit. Never had that happen before tonight, so I don’t know if the patch is involved, or if we should really care.

2nd, I noticed the save point that was broken (the one in the path of the “take a shortcut” BA challenge in Motherless) has been fixed. Yay! (And I mean that yay, I know that sounded totally sarcastic)

3rd, in doing the 3go-tp mission I only picked up 1 memory trophy and went right to sending me back to him to finish the mission. there are supposed to be 5 trophies to pick up, but after that 1 all the other markers were gone, only thr marker to go back to 3go was there.

Also, when 3go is floating and being a big turd in the sky, there was a large loud banging sound, like the sound of the claptraps in jacks office banging their keyboards but MUCH louder. It wasn’t persist through fighting him, but more intermittent whenever he was turned a certain way; as if he was hitting something when he wasn’t actually hitting anything at all. I don’t remember this sound in my prior runs of the game, so that’s why I bring it up. It was really out of place given how much louder then everthing else it was.

4th had a weird thing happen with the Moxxi Laser where the beam wasn’t coming out of the gun any more, but Athena’s left hand (that holds the gun steady). Comical, but also sort of disorienting. It didn’t persist, but it happened from time to time just to throw me off (not that I needed help; playing Gaige in BL2 this past week or so already had me forgetting how to play Athena)

5th, when the game is loading into an area there was a big audio bump sound, like feedback, when the game starts the autosaving process. This only seems to happen when loading into an area and not when having a save happen while already bein in an area (I thought this could be my speakers but I feel pretty sure it’s from the game, as it only happens in that specific frame of reference and was repeatable)

Was really hoping the patch was going to fix it, and I thought I could have been lucky enough to have eeked by with a working result, but I just ended up with sad trombones like everyone else seems to have. If anything it seems the patch fixed one thing (the save point) and weirded out some really strange other things, while not really taking care of the biggest issue.

Don’t know how much more info, or even theories, I can provide anymore. I still don’t think it’s really anything to do with net connection if the firmware (if the firmware is to blame) itself is what seems to have caused this for so many people. If the firmware is installed then it’s not really going to matter if the Internet is connected or not; using the game in question as an anology, it’s like the bugs and glitches you fight inside claptrap -they’re installed, taking him offline doesn’t undo that. He’s still buggy.

Also, taking a game that could be played offline, but is ultimately meant to be played with others, offline, is sort of… a crap fix. I hate to put it that way, but even if that fix worked for the majority (I’m one of the seemingly many where it doesn’t) it still means your ultimate enjoyment, and the full potential of the game, is gimped by the bug. I may have missed it, but I’m really surprised more people haven’t called that out yet.

It’s also a little weird to me that after the first freeze, it seems that every subsequent freeze after happens faster and faster there on, until you either put the console into rest mode or turn it off completely. Then the waiting game of “when will it” starts anew the next time you start up the system and game. (So, a thought… could this be a memory leak of some sort? In bad layman’s terms it sounds like the game’s got bad temp files in use, or something to do with ram use somewhere… thing-a-ma-jigs… whosie-whats-its.)

But then again its not like we totally know everything that’s being looked into, nor do we really know -in full- what the patch even attempted to do beyond the usually vague, “stability so and so,” so all any of us can do is frustratingly make potshots in the dark while we wait… it’s just that now, with a lot of new games coming very soon (or right now) it’s getting hard to even bother with waiting at this junction. And that’s sad, since I love this series and was having a lot of fun with these 2 games.

My PS4 is connected to the Internet and I am signed into the PSN.
Playing solo. In-game network options set to “Online Friends Only”.

Froze twice in a row in Tycho’s Ribs while trying to help my friend get through his normal story mode. He’s a lv. 23 Enforcer, not sure what kind of gear he has. First time was showing him the Mario spot, second time froze right around the same area outside of it. Weird that it seems to be happening in normal and TVHM; I’ve been able to play a few times at lv. 70 without many issues.

Edit: I should probably clarify, my game didn’t freeze, his did. But still, two times on normal mode for the record.

This actually happened on my Athena playthrough. I froze at the last door in the Mario part of this room, and shortly after proceeding to the mission in the long hallway I got another crash. After that, though, I haven’t gotten another freeze and was able to beat the final boss. On my Athena playthrough I’ve gotten a total of 4 crashes. The other 2 were in the Titan Robot Production Plant I believe.

Just wanted to play yesterday “Claptastic Voyage” on TPS (PS4) with Handsome Collection.
Firmware 3.10 - Playing as Singleplayer.
After 2-3 Minutes the Game froze. Just after I travelled the first “Digital Lane” at the beginning where I meet the four mini bots. I gave one of them the 5 Dollar and in this moment it froze.
Claptastic Voyage unfortunately unplayable :frowning:

The handsome collection on PS4 has frozen on me twice after around half an hours play time. It seems to be random. Im connected to PSN and updated

Good gracious inventory?

If you see a post from me, its always goinh to be max level and last play through.

Athena is running morq, eddie, thunder-fire, excalabasterd, fire anarchist or the corrosive smg from redbelly, torrent, and throwing a storm front. Area is mutator.

That’s from memory. God help me, i don’t know her inventory cold, except for her shields (neogenator and avalanche).

I dropped by wondering if the recent update included anything related to the problem.

been killing stuff in bl1 on ps3 for a while.

Also I have had a lingering suspicion that interacting with vendors can proc a crash or at least promote it. Over time and also because when I had just won a mutator round and made room in inventory by a few sales before collecting the chests, the game crashed. Interacting with vending machines in tps especially in subconscious always procs audio problems and some times severely hits frame rates after exiting them for a time. perhaps any inventory like display can relevance?

pity y’all can’t hook up a debug port or get a log stream outta our boxes…

I noticed alot of crashes happen for me when I pause the game and leave to the PS4 menu, writing messages etc.! I had 2 or 3 freezes in-game, but that doesn’t happen too often for me.

This has been happening daily since I bought the handsome collection in blps. Myself on digital, and my friends on disc will get it 2-3 times each oer play session in random areas, with any characters and no matching gear.

It mostly triggers as a voice over starts or a few minutes after being in a menu or afk for a while. It’s leaving the game unplayable and it feels like this is more widely spread an issue than gearbox is aware of :s I don’t know anyone it hasn’t happened to that is playing on ps4 and its a major bug.

+1 on the game freezing when you open up the PS menu to send messages, it just did it again.

Twice in succession in veins of helios without opening the ps4 menu now :frowning:

This is the first post from Gearbox that actually shows me that you’re addressing the situation. Thank you. Please, keep us informed. Up to now, your responses haven’t been cutting it.

Ok the big update is not working.im frozen at lets build a robot army trying to get to train.i hope we get a resolution on this :frowning:

Oh yeah no more legendary drop than before patch.

Thank you for engaging us directly, to discuss this issue.

It is good to know that Gearbox knows the the patch did not fix the freezes and that you are indeed continuing to try and find out why.
