Iâm still in the same boat with everyone else. Downloaded the patch early today and got to play tonight. I just got done banging my head against it, and Iâm not really sure I even want to play BL2 now -which has been working fine prior to the patch; not sure as of yet if the patch screwed with it- simply because TPS frustrated me so much -again.
Hereâs my experience in the hour and a half I managed played the game tonight:
Spent my entire time in Motherless Board, Nexus and Cluster Pandora. The bulk of the time was spent doing BA challenges in Motherless, simply to test if the patch helped and to not immerse myself too deep if it didnât. Things felt like they were going fine so I decided to do some side stuff in Nexus and Cluster Pandora (Id and Ego quests, The cookie quest ect.) When i wrapped those up and decided to at least move on to Cluster Overlook so I could maybe start to move on with the story⌠welp, when I was going up the building to the door to Overlook in the Motherless Board (a structure i had been in a few times while running around in the last hour plus) I had my first freeze.
Okay, maybe it was a freak thing. So I closed out the game (dashboarding and forcing a shutddown still works) and messaged a friend for a little while then restarted fresh from the dashboard. 3 or so minutes later, same area, frozen again. Rinse, repeat. Let out a big sigh, then I came on here to throw my updated 2-centsâŚ
Here are a few additional, weird, things about that hour and a half I noticed:
1st was somehow managed to get a bug where the orange data stream effect stuck around on me when I wasnât in the stream anymore. It was annoying but went away with a save/quit. Never had that happen before tonight, so I donât know if the patch is involved, or if we should really care.
2nd, I noticed the save point that was broken (the one in the path of the âtake a shortcutâ BA challenge in Motherless) has been fixed. Yay! (And I mean that yay, I know that sounded totally sarcastic)
3rd, in doing the 3go-tp mission I only picked up 1 memory trophy and went right to sending me back to him to finish the mission. there are supposed to be 5 trophies to pick up, but after that 1 all the other markers were gone, only thr marker to go back to 3go was there.
Also, when 3go is floating and being a big turd in the sky, there was a large loud banging sound, like the sound of the claptraps in jacks office banging their keyboards but MUCH louder. It wasnât persist through fighting him, but more intermittent whenever he was turned a certain way; as if he was hitting something when he wasnât actually hitting anything at all. I donât remember this sound in my prior runs of the game, so thatâs why I bring it up. It was really out of place given how much louder then everthing else it was.
4th had a weird thing happen with the Moxxi Laser where the beam wasnât coming out of the gun any more, but Athenaâs left hand (that holds the gun steady). Comical, but also sort of disorienting. It didnât persist, but it happened from time to time just to throw me off (not that I needed help; playing Gaige in BL2 this past week or so already had me forgetting how to play Athena)
5th, when the game is loading into an area there was a big audio bump sound, like feedback, when the game starts the autosaving process. This only seems to happen when loading into an area and not when having a save happen while already bein in an area (I thought this could be my speakers but I feel pretty sure itâs from the game, as it only happens in that specific frame of reference and was repeatable)
Was really hoping the patch was going to fix it, and I thought I could have been lucky enough to have eeked by with a working result, but I just ended up with sad trombones like everyone else seems to have. If anything it seems the patch fixed one thing (the save point) and weirded out some really strange other things, while not really taking care of the biggest issue.
Donât know how much more info, or even theories, I can provide anymore. I still donât think itâs really anything to do with net connection if the firmware (if the firmware is to blame) itself is what seems to have caused this for so many people. If the firmware is installed then itâs not really going to matter if the Internet is connected or not; using the game in question as an anology, itâs like the bugs and glitches you fight inside claptrap -theyâre installed, taking him offline doesnât undo that. Heâs still buggy.
Also, taking a game that could be played offline, but is ultimately meant to be played with others, offline, is sort of⌠a crap fix. I hate to put it that way, but even if that fix worked for the majority (Iâm one of the seemingly many where it doesnât) it still means your ultimate enjoyment, and the full potential of the game, is gimped by the bug. I may have missed it, but Iâm really surprised more people havenât called that out yet.
Itâs also a little weird to me that after the first freeze, it seems that every subsequent freeze after happens faster and faster there on, until you either put the console into rest mode or turn it off completely. Then the waiting game of âwhen will itâ starts anew the next time you start up the system and game. (So, a thought⌠could this be a memory leak of some sort? In bad laymanâs terms it sounds like the gameâs got bad temp files in use, or something to do with ram use somewhere⌠thing-a-ma-jigs⌠whosie-whats-its.)
But then again its not like we totally know everything thatâs being looked into, nor do we really know -in full- what the patch even attempted to do beyond the usually vague, âstability so and so,â so all any of us can do is frustratingly make potshots in the dark while we wait⌠itâs just that now, with a lot of new games coming very soon (or right now) itâs getting hard to even bother with waiting at this junction. And thatâs sad, since I love this series and was having a lot of fun with these 2 games.
