Anybody is welcome to come and discuss balancing; we have games daily and you’re welcome to come and play!
Going up against dynamic-expert AI is starting to get boring.

Yes I think it would be a good idea to re pursue this course. I wanted to wait until this first patch before putting too much effort into helping with 178th’s mod, but my patience has worn out and I’m losing valuable play time. Add to that scole stating that they are implementing no vorvette flight path changes this time around that 178th has already fixed, I think it’s clear that a split effort makes since.
When I get home tonight I’m going to modify the sticky balance mod thread’s first reply that I reserved for updates to log details, changes, and issues with 178th’s mod. We can use that thread for discussion index and general information on how to participate. I’ll join you guys tonight on TS.

Thread will be updated here. I’ll pretty it up later
This is true for the main game as it changes the balance of HW1 corvettes vs everything vice versa (so they will all be addressed in one fell swoop in the balance mod) but for your mods we are including a new Circlestrafe derived attack style to be used on HW1 corvettes that has a lot of new behaviors we think you guys will like (and is being used in the balance mod, ergo this patch has to land first). The repair corvettes will use it so crack it open and tell us what you think.

Ok, now I’m confused about what is going on here. Help me understand if you may.
We should be expecting both a major patch AND the originally discussed Official Balance Mod? Forgive me but I king of figured the balance mod fell by the wayside and was forgotten about.
If that is the case, then I’m to understand that the major patch will not contain vette flight path changes, but the balance mod will?
Sorry if there was confusion but the balance mod is very much still a thing but we’re moving beyond swizzling numbers about, there has to be code changes which means new code in the hands of the users. Repair corvettes and support frigates using actual repair beams for example. New attackstyle behaviors is another- if the attackstyle doesn’t exist on your machine in your code, we can’t update corvettes to use them. Dynamic squadrons, etc. (the framework for this is in the next patch, it just isn’t exposed yet because they still need work). Unintended damage has to be fixed (it is in the patch), missiles missing multiple times, regen/depletion times. All have to be code fixed and in your hands before balancing can begin (well, without everything going completely messy).

Ok I get it now. Thank you very much for the clairification. Hopefully from here then we can lock in and exicute on the idea of having 3 versions running:
The production C, stable version that all beta testers get automatically
The official, GBX, @scole mod that was original described with quick updates that will act as a wide scale meta beta.
And a community Alpha mod that uses your mod as a base and can add suggested numbers posted by you and/or additional tweaks on the fly that us overly ambitious testers can use to excelerate testing and act as an expanded, free playtest group for you.
My excitement level is gaining some of its momentum back. Hopefully I’ll be powering up my PC again soon.
Probably sooner than you think, actually

Tested last night with Singrana Vaygr Missile Corvette nerf. No microing, no formations.
14 Hiigaran Fighters vs Vaygr 14 Missile Corvettes - Hiigaran win with 14 Fighters left.
14 Hiigaran Pulsars vs Vaygr 14 Missile Corvettes - Hiigaran win with 10 Pulsars left. (UNUPGRADED for both)
14 Hiigaran Pulsars vs Vaygr 14 Missile Corvettes - Hiigaran win with 5 Pulsars left. (Fully UPGRADED)
Hiigaran full capacity of Fighters + Pulsars vs Vaygr full capacity of Fighters + Missile Corvettes + 1 Scout with successfull EMP - Hiigaran wins. First Hiigaran Intersceptors and Vaygr Missile Corvettes are destroyed and then Pulsars finish Vaygr fighters with approx. 3 left. (Fully UPGRADED)
Conclusion: Pulsar is new Missile.
Conclusion: This is a mechanics patch not a balance patch

That is why I’m waiting to post about balance, a few mechanics changed and we got a lot of effect in balancing already, so I’m waiting for the balance patch for proper analysis

To be clear the next patch will be a pretty heavy ‘mechanics’ patch too - just with Balance on top to show the results of those changes. The mechanics we changed this time (repair, etc) were pretty self-contained.
Though, before the next patch there may be a ‘half’ patch to deal with some less mechanics, more just annoying/old bugs - stuff that we can fix now while balance is cooking.

Well I do hope for a quick hotfix though. The current lag issue + access violation bug make things unplayable at the moment. That may be harmful even to simple modding but from what I gathered you already found the issue at hand and it’s all a matter of your Q&R branch.
Anyway good work on that latest patch I can’t believe it’s finally here - the support frigates are indeed very interesting… So are the new features and fixes.

I found/killed the lag bug, yes - no idea what you mean by ‘access violation’ though - something else?

Well I’m really not sure but I never before had “access violation” crashes till today but I suppose there’s a first time for everything. I’ve read by some other people that they also experienced this. So I didn’t bother trying to continuing playing after I experienced the crash myself earlier that day. I wanted to wait for a hotfix. Anyway this is what my logfile presented me:
HomeworldRM.exe caused an Access Violation in module seDXAudio.dll at 0023:085318c5.
Error occurred at 5/7/2015 21:00:14.
HomeworldRM.exe, run by 23-down.
Microsoft Windows XP?.

0 MBytes physical memory.
Read from location 29a6d000 caused an access violation.

The rest is irrelevant as it just mentions numerous dlls in system32, system64 folders. Oh and I’m surely not on win Xp I’m on win7 ultimate 64bit.
seDXAudio.dll seems to cause this though I’m not sure if it’s just a bad call towards the dll or if my own dll. might be corrupt in any sorts. I can test it later for you once again with -luatrace enabled if you like but if it’s dll related it probably wont do us any good. I never before had any dll errors in remastered so it should be related to the latest patch as the dll was also last modified today when I patched the game.

FYI, Ive had the game crash with “Access Voilation” many times over that last few months. Ill have to post log files next time it happens.

I’ve also seen the access violation error, in multiple languages prior to this patch, at least I think it was multiple, wasn’t English.

Any sense of common things related to the crash? Stuff that was happening before, oddness, anything? That sort of crash is a huge catch-all - with no terribly useful info
