it seems to be an issue with the recent window s update causing memory leaks

Well, that didnt work. Ran a DDU, fresh install of drivers, updated to latest, optimized in GF Experience. Ran for less than 5 mins before crashing again (in the train station omw to Vault under Meridian).

First rules : never used GF experience to optimize a game. Ever. Change your graphics settings to the lowest settings and start cranking up option by option one by one and see if your PC is stable.

cant believe theres not a fix for this yet

Will this be fixed soon? If not I guess I will have to return my game.

  • GPU was pretty close to a WiFi card that I didn’t use, so I unmounted the WiFi card to help refrigeration.
  • I’ve cleaned the GPU fans with a brush to help refrigeration furthermore.
  • Pushed the GPU to the motherboard to make sure is well set.
  • Rolled back to 436.15 drivers. Clean unstalled the 436.30 version with DDU and then installed the whole Nvidia suite of programs with 436.15 version of the driver.
  • Turned off cloud saves.

Second day, playing around 2h with friends and 0 crashes, I think I could have find my way to fix the issue. Hope it helps someone solving it for them.

This is ridiculous. They’ve released a beta game and charged for it.
We are the testers.

I can’t even get a refund anymore because I’ve played for over ten hours even though the game has been kicking me out since release and unusable for the last 3 days. I’m pretty pissed off. Sent at least 30 error reports after crashes and no updates to even acknowledge the issue. Not really sure what to do at this point.

Well I got my refund and I’ll just have to wait til the game comes to steam, I feel exhausted from the whole experience because I was really looking forward to this game but there is only 14 days to get a refund and I wasn’t sure how long the refund would take with Epic so better safe than sorry, I feel like it was the Epic Launcher that caused the problem but who knows… best of luck to everyone!

I’ve added it to steam as a possible fix and that did not work. I think it’s more than just the launcher. I’m just surprised to see so many people streaming it and when I ask them in chat they say they have had no issues. I’m on a brand new high end PC that has zero issues running this game from a component standpoint. Really hope this is fixed soon as I thoroughly enjoy the game.

Have you tried stress testing your machine? Mine might be a psu issue. Getting a better one through warranty. Fingers crossed it helps.

I’ve been following this thread since the 13th and I’ve had similar issues that all of the rest have had. I used to get at at least an hour in before the game freezes, CTD, my PC crashes and I have to start all over. Throughout the board people have suggested fixes, workarounds and tips and I’ve used a great deal of them to come to my particular conclusion and I’d like to share to offer any help since many folks have taken the time to help as well. So here’s what I read and what I did:

*Someone suggested disabling GEForce Experience. I did that.
*It was suggested to disable cloud saves in Epic Game Store. I did that.

  • I set my FPS in game to be capped at 60fps. Honestly you don’t need to go higher than that.
*Now here’s where I think it improved. Someone suggested to open the task manager and set Borderlands.exe to HIGH priority. That was the last thing I did.

After all that I’ve had ZERO issues. I farmed Gigamind for 2 hours last night and had steady frame rate, no crashes and smooth gameplay. I should add there was a random glitch where I hopped into the hover cycle and I fell through the map and I had to manually quit and restart. Other than that it’s been fine.

TL;DR, Disabled GEForce, disabled Cloud Saves, Capped FPS at 60, Set Borderlands.exe to HIGH priority via Task Manager.

I hope this post helps and I hope the rest of you who are having issues get them resolved soon.

The PC stats: AMD Ryzen 2700x
GTX 1070
16gb RAM
An SSD

probably just settings your PC power management to high performance would have done the trick. That way your processor always runs at the base clock minimum.

I’ve now tried switching pc to high performance, disabled geforce, disabled cloud saves, capped fps at 60 and set borderlands.exe to high priority via task manager. I play for about ten seconds then immediately kicked.

32gb ram
2080 Nvidia
SSD
850w PS

I truly don’t understand how so many people are streaming this and I can’t even play it.

I played every night no issue and I don’t see any reason why it can’t be the same for you @ryanmdahonick . Now there is one thing I’ve notice while streaming this week. If I open my OBS prior to opening the game and my Pc capture was already set to grab borderlands3.exe, the game crashes immediately. So it seems to me like Denuvo DRM , at least at the start of the application, is looking at any “hook” like overlay and monitoring software and crashes the game. If you start the game and than start OBS, no issue.

So that got me thinking if some players experiencing issue in launching the game are not aware they have software like Logitech Ghub, Discord, MSI Afterburner and RTSS just to name a few that “hooks” to the game to add some overlay are causing issue and instability with the game.

Heck, I have an Alienware PC. You would think it would be the most unstable POS on the market and it works fine . This weekend, I will install BL3 on my gaming laptop. I7-700HQ and GTX 1070 and see if I get all of the issue some of you guys are having. I’ll report on my findings.

@fogboundturtle I appreciate the detailed reply. I’ve got MSI Afterburner and Discord so I tried removing them from startup so that they’re not running while I’m in game. Same as before, I can move my character for about ten seconds and then it crashes. Game is really trying my patience now.

Do you have anything in Windows Event Viewer ?

Problems afaik show up in people who use nvidia cards. Especially those with laptops utilizing optimus.

Those without issues either havnt updated windows/nvidia drivers, arent using laptops, or dont have nvidia cards.

Gearbox, microsoft, and nvidia all refuse to help, and all blame each other. Ive spent a week straight with each support team, and all i got was some microsoft person trying to scam me out of $50-100, and everyone else saying “not our problem, contact x”.

@fogboundturtle nothing in Windows Event Viewer

@PikaFox I’ve even tried to roll back the driver on my nvidia 2080 and am still getting the same message when getting kicked from game

After updating everything I finally got it to be somewhat stable. Going from multiple crashes every hour at release date. Loading into new areas and using fast travel is when mine always crashes. Mine still crashes once every few hours only when using the fast travel / travel pods out in the world. The game still has problems and every now and then it will bsod and corrupt my save game (I learned to back it up and to rename the save.tmp when needed).
