I suggest you call it :

The One Life, Zero Guns Challenge ( 1L0GC )

If someone knows someone who can can make a flash animation or gif where the letters rearrange to spell L0G1C that would be awesome.

Tweet your favorite Twitch and Youtube Streamers to get them behind the idea. Emphasize that this is not a protest of Guns themselves, but Gun Violence, which is an important distinction that circumvents a lot of the petty arguments people engage in to deflect the conversation about these killers and killings.

To make it a true challenge to engage players and streamers, we can try and muster up some sort of prize packages for the people who came make it the furthest. I would suggest adopting the same rules as the Hunt as far as what is allowed.

Other than that, I can see about putting together a informational video, or brief vignettes discussing the history of mass shootings and efforts that can be made on a social and cultural level to better dial with grief management, depression, and mental illness other factors that contribute to people resorting to violence to express their frustrations.

Having streamers provide their own personal anecdotes about any experiences they’ve had or how they have been impacted by this senseless violence, or experienced circumstances that line up with those that have motivated some of these shooters, but turned away from violence and found a better path in life, might be powerful/ affective.

Some other ideas:

The optimized skills and buffs of the UCP for BL2 & TPS seem fair to be allowed.

Treat it like the Olympics, such that there is a Champion for each character in each game, with a Patched & UnPatched Champion.

Possibly have CO-OP relays/ races, where players clear a map and the one with the most kills wins.

Have a Melee Duel Tournament live on Stream, like a Borderlands UFC card.

That way there’s a variety of entertainment, and opportunity for collaboration between streamers, and fun ways for fans to engage.

Not trying to start an argument, and you have a great cause, but having more gun regulation is not gonna help the problem. Most gun crimes happen with illegal carriers. And also more people save lives with legal guns than take them (in America).

P.S. I got my ass whupped in a legal debate about this topic a week ago.

I recommend searching for the Political Discussion Thread, that’s where more contentious/deeper debate about this is happening. Here may not be the place for it

no I meant I had a formal debate in a debate class i’m in.

I just meant this thread seems to be a more casual idea of sympathy, but there is an ongoing debate more akin to what you posted in the Politics thread.

Nope.

Although I dislike violence as a means to social problem-solving, as a Navy Special-Forces-Veteran (read: SEAL), physicist, astronomer, programmer, human behavioral biologist, et.al. I will utilize any and all methodology and tools at my disposal to counteract deadly violence against myself, my family and/or any seemingly innocent pedestrian I happen to encounter.

The difficulty we face is not as simple as normal ■■■■ sapien sapien tournament vs pair-bonding species violence, but is instead due to the epigenetic and neurological effects/affects of the contemporaneous stressors that are prevalent within the monetary capitalist society that we have created.

This is the one single reason that America and Americans have become so very violent.

There is an answer to this. The money/market system (capitalism) and all of the methods and motivations toward the manipulation of others for individual gain needs to go. We need to embrace the loss of jobs through automation. We need to stop using the farce of “democracy” wherein “my opinion is equal to your knowledge” kind of logic is central to our decision-making method. We need to utilize the very latest proven engineering and scientific knowledge via AI (artificial intelligence) to deduce our options in a manner that allows for new optimizations to be introduced as they evolve to solve the problems of today and tomorrow.

Humans are among the most socially cooperative species that has ever evolved, however the population of America is being taught differently; that humans are naturally competitive, aggressive and antagonistic.

Just take a short course in primatology at your local university to learn how very untrue this is.

We are being formed and manipulated by highly successful marketing ploys that depend upon their effectiveness for profit. It all, in the end, comes to profit and capitalism.

I would be willing to bet that a good 40% of you will dismiss me as a kook, a gosh-darn “conspiracy theorist!”. 50% will never have read this far because I do not share your opinion. 5% will wonder.

Some of you will perhaps agree… or not.

I am not interested in boring you further. Please let me retire my thoughts on this with one concept: “Being poor is not about how little you have, but about feeling poor”.

Thank you for listening.

Just want to emphasize this point that I brought up in my first reply. I’m reiterating it because as the last two {new} posts have shown - some people are prone to being polarized to one extreme or another.

@ gilligan_f You should take a free-market economics course. Although I am not trying to personally attack you, I think that you are wrong. For example Switzerland, the most free-market capitalist country in the world (along with Hong Kong) has never been in a single war. As for “individual gain” this is a very wrong myth associated with capitalism. Capitalism (unlike socialism) does not allow this to happen because no one forces you to buy anything. Its all your choice. Furthermore, if you buy something you are getting what you want, (the product) and the seller gets what they want (currency). Take this as you will, but please at least listen.

Right. If you really, really, must talk about your thoughts regarding gun legislation or politics, please go to the off topic section for respectful and polite discussion.

But this thread isn’t for that, okay? If you want to join in with the OP’s idea, then post here. Anything else goes in off-topic. That clear?

Peachy.
