I don’t understand any of this… We all play the game right?
I agree with flame, if a new person plays the game…and they want a boost & buy it. More power to them… Go right ahead. Boosters give pay 2 win advantage? No they don’t… It takes time to understand how this game works and time to fully understand your character even past CR 15 and helix choice & gear choices.
But… Lv boost will give you gear packs from character!!! You guys do know it’s RNG right? You guys also do know you can get just as much gear and packs from playing story missions right?
takes a lot of time and practice to understand the levels and characters… Takes more than boosters
I feel like you guys are complaining about sometihng that really doesn’t matter. Also, 2k is the reason there’s so many microtransactions. Original Evolve is evidence of that.
Don’t blame the devs, blame their publisher. Like with the shadiness around Mankind Divided.

gearbox is catering to their newer players in an effort to keep them.
[/quote]Keep the ones willing to pay for it, at least.
exactly, this is why i stopped playing destiny. The devs at bungie only cared about getting new players, instead of supporting those that got the game on day one like i did. It’s frustrating and it’s a tell of the devs character. The worry isn’t about double xp boosters, the worry is where they stop. Where they draw the line. Soon enough I predict that there’ll be platinum maps, or platinum only game modes etc. I’m throughly disappointed. This game began a vibrant Torquato Tassao and fell down into a plain wagnerian conformity. ewwwwww
Well ill tell you what mate, when/if that happens i will be one of the first few to tell you, you was right, but until that happens, if it ever does, dont let an xp boost ruin your time or veiw in/of this game. Because right now any disappointment or dismay anyone is feeling over this issue is just doing it to thenselves. XP boost was teased super early an now Gearbox delivered what they said they wld.
I didnt see any complaints before this, an they obviously told us it was happening.
The ultimate kicker here is that, as with any game like this, community response is used to gauge how well these things went over with the population and adjust future plans. If people don’t like it they pull it back and find something less contentious, but if not too many complain they go further (since going further means more revenue streams for the company).
So, maybe people need to ask themselves not “does this bother me?” so much as “do I want more development in this direction?”. I don’t mind the skins and the taunts, they’re actual new content. On the other hand, I don’t want more boosters and other consumables that are the literal equivalent of selling cheat codes that games in the past had for free- it doesn’t give me anything and it makes the whole game feel cheapened. By all means, make more content for me to play with, but boosters aren’t content, they’re just a cash-grab and trying to spin it as helping players is sadly misguided.
Personally I’m waiting for lockboxes, that most desperate of all the cash-grabs.

After a few items that were being planned for the marketplace were accidentally leaked to the public the developers decided to ask the playerbase about what marketplace items they would like to see in the marketplace. Most people were fine with the bankspace and loadouts and soon after those were added. Some people were fine with an booster, but not everyone liked the version that was leaked. The item that had been leaked was an item that boosted both xp and credits. Some wanted to have nothing to do with it. Most that were fine with it were fine with an xp boost but not a boost to credits. A handful were okay with both. The xp booster we have now could have been an item to boost both xp and credits, but based on user feedback the credit feature was removed.
I, for one, am somewhat bothered by the rapid increase of price in the skins. I mean, why are there skins that cost <$5, that don’t look like they took much time (From my perspective, as they’re largely the same as the first ‘wave’ of paid skins) to make, or perhaps more appropriately, they don’t look like they took that much more effort.
The Exp Booster doesn’t bother me at all, as I see it as a nice little thing, if you have extra platinum left, or some extra money. I just don’t want to be seeing the price for stuff keep increasing exponentially for little-to-no reason like what the more recent skins have done, in my eyes. The only ones I’d say are close to their prices, are S&A’s Fun and Games skin, and all of the 420 skins, but even then they are a little much for a game that released full price, in my opinion.
(Sidenote, please Gearbox, if you’d be allowed, go back and make the 700 skins equal to S&A’s in terms of content, and the 1,000 skins better than just a re-texture like the 420)
Oh, no disagreement there from me on the skin quality, there’s only a handful that look nice enough to spend money on and even then not the amount they’re asking for.
But at least with skins and taunts it feels like we’re getting content someone put work into- it’s not just them making money on temporary boosts that speeds up the progression they made slow.
I don’t think the progression is that slow, when you’re actually spending time learning what a character’s strengths/weakness are, why one option would be more effective in one situation and why the other would be more effective in a different situation. The XP boost is, to me, just something to let players see the mutations quicker, it doesn’t technically make the progression faster, since you’ll always be making progress on a character, no matter if they’re rank 15, you’ll always be finding out new things you could do with them, or new ways to use abilities/helixes that you might not’ve thought about before. An XP boost is just that, just a boost. It doesn’t shorten the length of the game any, it just makes it a little quicker to get the full repertoire of helix choices available. Besides, from what I can tell it’s always been slow getting to rank 14-15, so I highly doubt they increased the exp requirement even more, and I’ve been getting about the same exp as I have been before the booster released. I’m sorry you think the leveling up is slow, but it contributes to actually learning characters and getting, well, better with them, usually. Besides, seeing mutations quicker means players won’t have to use sub-optimal helix builds every time they play, depending on the character/helix.
XP boost paid items are an interesting addition. In an ideal world we shouldn’t have them. However in that ideal world, everyone plays the game for the same amount of time and therefore no-one has an advantage over anyone else.
Would we complain at someone who can play the game for several hours each day several times a week when we can only play for much less time than that? No, because that’s their choice on how they spend their time (and probably because we don’t have the the time to play more, though if we could we probably would). So why should we complain at some people being able to buy XP boosts? Again it’s their choice if they want to do this and our choice if we choose not to.
The XP boosts are only for 24 continuous hours, not for 24 hours of gameplay (unless someone actually plays solidly for 24 hours). So most people will only get a few hours boost out of this before it runs out and they are back to no boost or having to pay again.
At the end of the day there is no real advantage to the XP boosts. They can be useful for the latecomers to Battleborn to narrow the gap between them and those of us who have put in hundreds of hours already (I’m CR100 with several characters at rank 15). They don’t gain anything that many of us don’t have already (loot packs from ranking up) or will get in due course and, as has been said, the loot packs are random anyway. As for the helix unlocks, there aren’t any that give a staggering advantage either.
So in this imperfect world, I’m really not bothered about the XP boost paid items. I will not be using them but if others want to spend their money on these and give Gearbox a bit more money for the game then that’s fine by me.
