Gearbox, your Platinum currency is an overpriced, convoluted currency exchange system & I refuse to use it

I disagree. When talking about thousands of dollars worth of cosmetics, the initial cost becomes a trivial distinction. Having an initial price tag des not entitle the player to everything in perpetuity, any more than someone playing an MMO gets an expansion for free.

again, if people don’t think the initial cost was worth the money that’s a fine discussion to have. And if you don’t think cosmetics are worth an additional purchase, you will get no argument from me. But explain to me why the idea of paying extra for cosmetics is abhorrent but paying for DLC content isn’t. It makes no sense.

The price is fine. Don’t believe me?
Go take a look at everything else in your life that you pay for

An example: An iTunes song costs ~1.99 now!!

So in comparison to many other things this isn’t even bad. I actually think the prices are a bit too low just a tad. If you want skins & taunts so badly then fork over the money. What people don’t realize is GEARBOX NEEDS MONEY !!! MONEY WILL ONLY HELP THEM MAKE MORE GAMES

In order to do that they NEED these micro transactions. They are COSMETIC differences they are doing. If it was to buy a new gun for Whiskey Foxtrot or to upgrade a rapier for Phoebe I could see why people would be mad (if it was pay only)

But for something so trivial this thread is bad and everyone being angry at the prices should feel sad for themselves

Already having paid for DLC content, it doesn’t feel good having to pay again.

Too low? Really? That you are willing to spend this much on top of say a Deluxe or Game + Season Pass already, makes you one of very few. $4 buys you food too, and other items that are necessary. A skin is an extra and if they were cheaper, more people would take the bait.

In GearBox I Trust
(100%)

It makes perfect sense. It’s not about cosmetics. I’ll just quote myself from another thread:

There’s a fundamental difference between honest and straight offer (that I’d surely weigh) and a scheme intentionally created to trick you into spending more money (that I can’t stand - especially after all the faith I had in GBX and BB and efforts I made to help the game flow).

And here.

$60 for a game itself is a trivial distinction? You’re joking, right? This distinction is the most important for any game, especially for Battleborn in it’s current state: this is a distinction between being able to play the game and not able. All those wordy explanation of how MTs are OK are great when you have a free-to-play game with a stable playerbase of many thousands. Is there any similarity with Battleborn? Not even a slightest.

You already have to grind hours to buy new heroes if you didn’t buy the DLC.Now you can also buy exp, money boost packs and skins with real money. It’s a 60 usd game with 20 usd season pass plus microtransaction. It’s evolve all over again lol.

Reminds me a little bit of this;

I actually really like it. Sue me, I’m tacky :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Was going to make a joke about me, an amusement park and a lot of cotton candy…

That’s fun no one of MTs defenders said they are going to buy all skins or even just a half. They all say either “it’s just cosmetic, you don’t need it” or “maybe I’ll buy a skin or couple for my favorite hero”. What is more fun, they say it to people who expressed their desire to have many skins or even all of them.

Basically it’s “It’s OK because it doesn’t concern me/I have no interest in this”. But if something doesn’t concert you, your opinion means little.

Thanks.

It’s basically how some F2P games (eg Warframe) set their pricing, and it’s worked on me in the past.

My apologies for the confusion. There were some assumptions in my comment based on previous statements I’ve made.

Mostly, I fully expect that micro transactions only become a major force if the game goes F2P. A few to test the waters… I’m not a huge fan, but I get it.

More importantly, I expect customers who bought the game to be compensated somehow if/when the games does go F2P. At very least, we should be given platinum equivalent to the purchase price we paid for the game.

All that said, to answer your question, an incentive to buy extra helps keep the game afloat. If/when it goes F2P, they’ll need a revenue source to keep the lights on. Pricing the premium currency in a way to help nudge people towards spending a bit more can only help the game in the long run. Just so long as players don’t feel duped or swindled. And seeing as how other games use the exact system to great success …

I have no problem with playing for extra stuff in a full priced game. I get it, they need to keep their lights on and pay people. But I refuse to pay for skins that expensive. They are just recolors and should be 2$ tops. And as someone said already, in a game with a dwindling playerbase it is risky to buy something extra that might not even matter soon.

I REALLY REALLY like the Caldarius skin.

I guess why these skins don’t bother me so much is that I’ve spent quite a few $$$$ on League of Legends over the past 7 years. I own every Ultimate (approx $25 each), and most Legendary skins (approx $15 each). So coming here and seeing nicely re-textured skins that I can grab for $3? It feels really cheap to me.

The up front cost of the game (bought DDE @ $75) doesn’t really factor in. I am getting the content I paid for, plus options to get even more stuff. And its SHINY stuff. Everyone likes shiny stuff.

I really do hope they add some incentive for PC players. Its starting to get hard to find matches for PvE now :frowning:

I was under the impression that micro transactions were for games that are free to play, as a means of sustainability.

Either they get £40 up front or they nickle and dime you, but both just seems unnecessary.

Game development isn’t cheap these days, but sometimes it just feels like they’re taking the piss.

Nah Micro transactions are in plenty of B2P games these days. Rainbow Six Siege has them for skins for the guns and now with some new headgear, however there is quite a bit of free diverse skins/headgear that can be bought with ingame currency. And skins in that game don’t make that much of a different as it is just weapons so most of the time they wont be seen that much. I almost never even notice them. Halo 5 has MT but its just for their loot packs, which can all be bought with earned currency (except special edition ones, I think those cost real money but they are just limited editon skins).

This wouldn’t even be that big of a deal to me if the skins we can get with in game currency weren’t just re colored…

What bothers me so much about this, is the fact that they don’t offer this currency in game. If they want to have micro transactions, fine, but give us the option to earn this currency in game. I don’t feel like that is an unreasonable request. I can’t speak for everyone that is against this, but for me personally, that would make my anger and frustration disappear.

It’s been said over and over but I’ll repeat it again… In my opinion and many others, the whole problem with this is the fact the tier 2 skins were in the beta. So that means many many players (myself included) were under the impression that they were part of the base game and would be earnable in game. Then they proceed too keep hush hush when repeatedly asked about the tier 2 skins, only to cut them from the game then try and charge us extra money for them. This is the problem, and it’s not right.

I would fully pay for tier 3 that actually change the model, not just fancier recolors. In my opinion trying to milk the remaining player base at this point in the games life is going too do more harm then good. It’s not going to bring players back it’s going to push them away.

I like how it’s straight forward prices but a lot of work goes into taunts and skins. $1 and $0.5 is not a lot considering the work. It’s not say as much as an actual character or AI but it’s still work. I think $2 for a skin and $1 for a taunt is more reasonable. Maybe $4 for a good T3 or T4 skin since they’re not just retextures. BL gave us a mission (Xmas v day etc) and customization for skins for the current price. Even less for just custom heads and skins for characters.
