Geoff too strong for 5 Newbies?

Hello.

Recently, I’ve been getting matched up with Newbies(Lvl1-3) whenever I do Story Mode & the one that most Newbies tend to have issues with are “The Algorithm”, mainly because of the Geoff battle.

Now, because I assume everyone here is already familiar with him & know how to deal with Geoff, knowing that during the 3rd Phase he spawns tons of minions+turrets, Newbies don’t. Every time I go in this mission with Newbies, they get overwhelmed with the amount of Minions that appear during the 3rd phase because compared to Geoff during the 1st & 2nd Phase, there’s almost no minions that spawn, catching them off guard.

It also doesn’t help that some of the Minions spawned are those big ones that take like a million hits to kill. sometimes spawning in 5 of them at the same time. With the Shock Turrets+Minions all shooting at once, they all tend to panic. Combine all this mayhem with 4-5 people who don’t know what to do, & they get destroyed within a few seconds of the 3rd Phase.

And Geoff is a pretty long way into the level; First, you gotta make it into the sub-level, then beat H3NCHM4N, battle on the bridge(another part Newbies struggle with, due to the Laser Katana/Sniper Droids+Big-ass Bot that drops from the ship), & then meet Geoff.

If, by some miracle, I manage to get past Geoff with the Newbies, they have no trouble the rest of the level, even with the Galactic Champion fight.

Thoughts?

When it comes to newbi’s I think they should experience the same level of WTF as we did. I’ve beaten Geoff tons of times, but every once in a while if I’m with an inexperienced team, or if I’m teamed up with people who just do their own thing then the very real possibility exist that we’ll get our tush’s handed to us.

That’s why I like this game so much. Nevermind that I’m currently locked out of my gearset due to some glitch, (it’s beta afterall) I’m still enjoying being able to help and protect some players who’re not quite at the level I’m at.

But yeah, if the people you’re playing with don’t have their stuff together by the Geoff battle then it’s going to be a great test of your and their ability to survive. In either case, I think it makes for an interesting experience.

As a general rule of thumb for devs designing a boss fight is that the fight gets harder as you go through it, so each phase is intended to be harder than the last. Sometimes they’ll do this by giving the boss new attacks in one phase (which Geoff does do) and often increasing the number of minions on the field, so having a final stage with a lot of minions is not something unique to Geoff or Battleborn in general, it’s a pretty common practice, they’re just not used to the Battleborn mechanics yet.

Just responding to the topic, didn’t read anything else :stuck_out_tongue:
Geoff has gotten MUCH stronger since the CTT where he was a pushover of a boss…so much stronger that he is more of a challenge then ISIC actually.

Yeah in the CTT all you had to do most of the time was have Ranged switch to adds(which was only waves of 5 and seemed very easy to kite) and Melee could just focus on and destroy Geoff.

I have only faced once so far in the Open Beta, but I really like what they have done with him.

As far as ISIC, he is not so easy if your play as a Melee Character. If you have not tried that story with a melee you should, in the end you may see ISIC as a little harder then before.

I have faced ISIC with a melee character, IMO, he doesn’t become harder, just more annoying as you are flung everywhere.

The last stage with the head flying around is a pain in the ass
