Good characters for new moba players

Shayne and aurox. Tanky, melee so close up strong pvp choice.
For a support miko is better for a constant heal
Alani can support alot better haste path, damage reduction, more cc and still has good healing though wont be has unkillable has a contant heal beam miko.
Reyna also a good pick to help boost some damage as well a keeping them alive also shayne has a lore challenge to play with reyna.

Agree with Puunch. Shayne and Aurox would be a great pick considering what you’ve described.

They can sneak in or out of the fight, shield themselves with Fetch for extra survivability, and if things get too crazy, they can drop back and sling boomerangs.

The only downside is their hitbox. That djinn on your shoulders makes for a big target, but it’s not too terrible.

However, I keep on seeing fresh joiners using Rath, why is it so? Maybe you can ask her to try out Marquis before letting her run in the thick of the battle? Not sure with it but I started out as Marquis and had a feel on targeting stuff and finding what positions apart from the perch that worked best; and was not caring before even if I had low kills. But it was just me, as long as I get to shoot at something, I was happy.

She played through the story mode with Shayne. Then during pvp she decided to try whiskey foxtrot. I’m thinking she would like marquis. I mean she did love the sniper rifles in borderlands.

To be honest, i think she (And you too, actually) should try every characters (Well, those you have unlocked) for a game or two. You both might likes characters that you didn’t think would be enjoyable.
It’s probably the best way to find a character you like anyway.

On the road to discovering which characters you may or may not like Random is your friend. Just mix it up every once and a while and try someone new. Create a generic gear loadout that can be used by all classes to use when you decide to pick a random character.

I would suggest Rath for any first-time BB player. That spin attack is devastating (while cheap, but that’s just a personal opinion) and extremely easy to use.

People have suggested Mellka, and from someone who frequently uses her, I can say she’s amazing in small maps in Capture and Meltdown. Try and build as much on her venom as possible and use Spike to disorientate players by bouncing over them.

I’m pretty much the same; I like being in the thick of it, hell-with-the-consenquences, so for me Mellka does the trick. Shayne and Aurox is also another great suggestion.

Ghalt is also a great player to use, even if it takes a while to unlock him. He can be pretty devastating in his own right.

Yea I’ve tried everyone. We have practiced incursion against the computer. I think this is where she gets discouraged she does well against the comp. Then with the same tactics get crushed in pvp. So what is a good way to practice? Maybe play private match with like 3 vs 5.

If you have an entire party with voice you can practice better because you’d know where to place your hero. However, finding a good scrimming run is pretty much random because you’d encounter: complete/partial parties; at some points some other random people also figuring out the play; and those teams that have no composition but are still so OP and will make you want to quit. Also, the key thing to develop is map awareness - meaning to always look at your minimap, even if you do not know the other team. In PvP, if the character always get killed, it means that there is something wrong with how it worked as I thought of it - I think that is the practice here.

Also, one last thing to note, do not think of your stats at the start. Stats are just stats and nothing more. You’d just have to go with your own pace and not worry too much about ranking and stuff. AFAIK the ranking in BB does not mean anything, rather for unlocks and loot packs (but I may be wrong). I for once was too worried on how horrible my stats would look like that is why I had trouble picking who I will main with. But down the line, after you have accomplished 1 “master of XXX” lore, you’d pretty much use the other characters because character XP is precious.

Well, the thing about a MOBA is it’s very team comp oriented, and it’s “snowball-y” which means, when you start to win, you usually will continue to win because you get an XP bonus and map pressure… and if you start to lose, you’ll usually continue to lose. (all in match of course)

So, while she may be getting discouraged, it’s probably not as bad of a loss as she “feels” it is, because really the match was lost in the first few engagements (which were probably closer) and then kept snowballing from there into something that felt much worse. This happens a lot in a MOBA and until you get a lot of experience it can feel like matches are always against either absolutely horrible players, or against amazing players, when in reality they’re probably a lot closer to your skill level than you realize.

It’s the same way in a match with bots, the first few fights are the ones that are really deciding that she does well… So, along those lines, it is doing her no good if she’s just roflstomping bots for half an hour! lol. If you’re going to play bots, it’s mostly going to help just to test a build out a bit, or to try a few helix options, but try not to spend too much time there, it’s not going to do her any good, especially after she’s getting ahead a little bit in a match. I wouldn’t play a bot match past about 10 minutes: Long enough to get some stuff unlocked and try some kit options (unless you’re specifically trying to test level 10 helix or something)

There’s a lot more tips I could give you, out of curiousity have you checked out my guide they pinned at the top of the competitive discussion subforum? It’s kind of long, but it has a lot of tips I think could help her out (like emphasis on not dying over getting kills and how farming is important) The first person MOBA guide (Incursion and Meltdown)

I always do some shameless self-promotion as well, but check out some streamers, they can give her a better idea of where to go and when and if she can find someone playing the characters she likes it can be extremely helpful. https://www.twitch.tv/v0lum3/manager/past_broadcasts
In fact, I don’t know if you’re on XBOX or not, but if you are, you’re free to play with me in the evenings, I’m really open to playing with anyone and I like guiding people through the game.
