Hey guys, I’ve been watching B5 again and as a result I’m once again got that modding itch. I know, I know, I should use cream but I haven’t done any graphics works in a while and I’m curious about what we can make the new remaster do.

So, while I start digging through the tutorials I have a few questions, or is it more of a wish list? Either way, any and all replys are appreciated.

  1. Seperate hyperspace animation for coming and going?
  2. Custome engine glow texture/mesh?
  3. Effects with texture animations and custome meshes?
  4. Turrets on animated joints?
  5. Multiple docking/undocking animations?
  6. More detailed backgrounds? Can I use a texture, or multiple textures as a background instead of the usual vertex style background?
  7. Possible to use SweetFx?

Thanks guys!

Re 3: I thought mesh effects were always possible, and some people have experimented with texture animation shaders already to good effect

Re 6: It seems you can do more or less whatever you want for background geometry and textures these days, even with animations if you want.

You could have animations, but only on the built in mesh (A flat square), I was never able to get custom meshes working. Which is why the Jump Point animation was always a circle and not an oval.

Animated backgrounds huh? Could be fun in hyperspace.

Welcome back Zeelich!!!

2 - we have waaaaay more access to the shader system than before. This should be possible I think. Name me some example ships with funky engine glows, I can try some experiments.

I think @evillejedi has been trying to make #4 work. Still not possible though I think. :frowning:

Also, there’s a new AddCustomCode ability in the a.ship files that we should be able to do all sorts of crazy things with. Perhaps with that, you could run some sort of hijack based on ship type or class to pick different animations in the madstate file.

AddCustomCode might be usable or separate hyper animations too.

Bitvenom mentioned that fixing the joints for animated meshes was in his to do list, but pretty far down it.
