Agree with that.
Well if this is the route we are going then add the Unforgiven too as it adds even more benefits even though it’s considered exploitative. Abusing the Eruption is almost the same exact principle as abusing crit swap. Not to mention the weird interactions that @sammantixbb has found with IB and the uses it has with nades crit.

I disagree, the Eruption’s effect is to debuff an enemy against all incoming damage. All animation cancelling is doing is guaranteeing continual uptime on it.
Crit swapping is to take attributes from 1 weapon and giving them to an entirely seperate weapon.
The Eruption’s effect was intended to make everything else work better, crit swapping is purely an engine limitation. If we’re comparing to it to cheese/exploits then fake grasping is a far more accurate comparison.

I’m just saying it’s clearly not intended to keep the rifle in the overheat state and abusing that is clearly an exploit. I also don’t believe something that relies on exploiting should be considered ‘top gear’ if it wouldn’t be top without using said exploit. And if it is, then the Unforgiven definitely belongs there too as it adds a lot to Moze capabilities if you are willing to abuse it and it follows the same logic that it wouldn’t be worth doing if not for the exploit attached to it. Whether or not it can easily be fixed has nothing to do with anything.
That said I’ve actually seen a pretty compelling argument that “crit swapping” is left in the game intentionally. If you think about it, we have different skills and interactions that either apply damage calculations on release/during flight/on impact in the game already. GBX clearly knows how to differentiate between the 3 and make it do what they want.

That and reload cancelling has been a reality since launch, while the eruption came much later with full knowledge of how it would interact with reload cancelling.

Yeah, if that’s the case Band of Sitorak and Brawler Ward should be top gear too. I mean even without damage stacking Band of Sitoraks other effects probably make it worthy, but I believe everyone left it out because it’s very exploitable.

my understanding is that band of sitorak was being left out explicitly because of the exploit, and once it was fixed it would be included.

Exactly, but if we’re ignoring that rule now, it might as well be added. It has plenty of benefits aside from the potential exploit. It’s not the core reason for it being top gear, unlike the eruption.

ignoring it for what, though? i agree with Prismatic that Eruption is working as intended.

Have some consistency.
Eruption cancelling.
Projectile multiplication.
These are features.
Yet,
Crit swapping
Shield damage stacking.
Are bugs.
I’m not here to die on this hill, I don’t care whether or not anything gets added. They’re simply suggestions.
If the carrier and projectile recursion are worth adding, then I’d suggest unforgiven (for @sammantixbb’s bear interactions at least) and the Sitorak, because if the bug didn’t exist, it’s still be top gear for its recharge rate and potential for max health.
Might as well add them anyway because the bug will either be fixed, or become a ‘feature’. It’s hardly game breaking because testing showed any damage that didn’t fully break the shield, would reset the stack count.
Just my 2c. I’ll let the gatekeepers decide.

I agree that exploiting the eruption this way falls under the same cheese category with the likes of:
- crit swapping
- level 1 stop gap/ rerouter
- tediore + cut purse
- shield stacking
Etc

How about this? Let’s add an exploits section to Top Gear, so people can choose for themselves how cheesy a thing is or isn’t.
That way, the main top gear items can be kept clean for competitive things like the takedown challenge, and if people wanna go all in on the most broken things possible they can.
Might even get the good ones fixed because there will be a nice neat list for GBox to read.

Headsplosion and WI have basically the same damage numbers on their cards. I find the former is better at mobbing since you get three powerful ricochets versus just the one you get from the latter.
EDIT: Headsplosion on Slaughter Shaft doing work, even though I am a terrible sniper and COV crit spots suck:

Well that’s a matter of luck. The card can be anywhere from 2900ish to 3700ish. I actually spent 12+ hours farming Headsplosions yesterday (Manvark) and I wasn’t able to be lucky enough to get any higher then a 3400 roll with no anoint and the next best was 2900 with 75% auto bear anoint. The most common by far was the 2900, which sucks because it doesn’t come anywhere close to performing like this, like by a mile, neither did the 3400 no-anoint version so you really need the godroll here.
The WI ricochet bounces around and hits more then 1 target and counts as splash(it causes an explosion) and can also freeze. I’d not say one is better they are just different and pretty equal when it comes to mobbing I also find the WI explosion to be better in my experience.
Screenshot of the cryo explosion
eh you aren’t a bad sniper it’s just a hard environment to snipe in. The problem I face is more visual I have a hard time seeing anything especially by round 5 with all the loot beams .
From watching your video and comparing to my WI gameplay I’d say both are pretty much equal just different(even though they are the same base gun). I don’t object adding the 53 Headsplosion to top gear except that it should come with a note that if you don’t have a 3400+ roll with a good anoint it’s not going to be exceptional and that the base damage can vary wildly (2900-3700). Similarly I think the WI is also top gear but should be noted that it has limited time availability although pretty much any one you get is going to perform at this good level.
Thank you for the video. I tried to farm a good one to do a fair comparison but as I said I couldn’t come up with the godroll and the 2 lesser versions I did get didn’t come anywhere close to this so it’s nice to see your vid and be able to compare it to my experience with the WI.
Oh another thing I wanted to note is that without Overkill the WI seems to be stronger then the Headsplosion but with overkill the Headsplosion seems to outdo the WI a bit. This is judging from my WI experience vs your video.
And one last thing to keep in mind is the WI not using ammo on critical hits so without Forge I find it very easy to keep the same mag forever compared to the Headsplosion where this isn’t the case even with Redistribution I struggled to not reload (without Forge).

Didn’t realize there was such a damage spread between Headsplosions — assumes they were closer like the Monocle. I only have the two that collected during the first rate spawn event and have been sitting in my item box ever since.
Is a bloodletter with +5 to phalanx doctrine a legit spawn?

there are a lot of legendaries like this, and as our level cap gets increased, this will become more and more apparent. the headsplosion doesn’t even have a large variation in parts either. its just the stock and foregrip. but the correct stock w/ accessory and foregrip is ~20% difference in card damage. the sight also varies, but the only one that adds damage is the one with 10% crit, which doesn’t affect card value.
however, the difficulty in rolling a good version of a weapon shouldn’t be a factor in whether it’s top gear or not. borderlands is an ARPG, and item roll variation is part of the deal.

I’m noticing that with Kyb’s Worths as well – there is one sight that gives 5-10% more damage.

yeah, the laser circle sight is +5% damage on maliwan SMGs, as well as one of the stocks.
this is the sight/stock you want on maliwan SMGs
