Has Anyone Here Played Rage (2011)?

It plays a lot like Borderlands without the randomized, leveled gear system, and has a nice Fallout feel without the huge sandbox of numerous, mundane tasks.

Yeah, it was portrayed as big competition for bl on release.

Turned out to not be. I played it, found it very uninteresting. No replay value.

I loved it, but as was said, it had little replay value. It had no form of farming at all, so it lost a good chunk of the blands replay value.

But it did have a lot of things GS that I would like to see borderlands 3 have. Customizable cars, even more so than normal, and races could be great. Granted we did have the torgue dlc race, but with these ones it could be demolition derby or multiplayer races

I really like this game; I just replayed it a few months ago. Like every other first-person shooter out there, Borderlands 2 ruined it on, well, almost every level that I can think of, and Rage is no exception, so if we act like BL2 never came out, here’s what I like about Rage:

The driving is pretty fun, and the races can be quite intense.
The mutant combat animation is incredibly well done; I’d sell my soul for a bona fide horde mode of those things.
The depiction of post-apocalyptic Earth might be one of my favorites.
There are a handful of decent mobs, but much of the combat is peeking/sniping around corners.
The Scorchers DLC has some beautiful environments and a couple of good mobs… mobs that my sentries could actually sink their teeth into.
The crafting part is cute… a lot of that stuff is actually useful.

If we leave BL2 in the equation (and this goes for almost all FPS games for me):
This dude can’t run, can’t jump, can’t take a fall, only has like a dozen basic weapons (and those “mind control” darts are, in practice, just darts with big explosions), there are only a handful of enemy types and combat modes in the game, all the NPCs are deadpan stereotypes, and you call that a mob?

Yeah, large, story-driven games do tend to have little to no replay value, imo. A Zelda game with no Hero Mode = me not replaying it for quite a while. I still find it an awesome game though, and I like not having to farm for new weapons.

Until Borderlands 2 came out, the only single-player first-person shooters that I can think of that had any sort of playable end game was the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series (and until Borderlands 2 came out, I would just replay the storylines from the other games from scratch).

Rage was one of the most fun games I played that year right up until it stopped. I can’t say that it ended because that would imply the game had an actual ending, which it did not.

I believe that there had been multiple “leaks” about how there was going to be a second one, but that was a long time ago so that I think it wasn’t real, which was disappointing
