Me and my brother were playing the game as the Doppelganger and the Gladiator, and he caught onto it and pointed it out to me. Because Tassiter first comes in the dialogue asking Jack what was going on, and addressed him as ā€œJackā€ but for the rest of the game he addresses him as ā€œJohnā€ does anyone else find this weird? I didnā€™t really notice at first, but did anyone else notice this?

My guess is that he at least tried to be respectful in the beginning. After Jack insults him not much later, which likely happened more than once before, Tassiter quickly drops the act by saying ā€œWe will speak again, Johnā€, putting a lot of emphasis on ā€œJohnā€.
To me this means heā€™s had enough of him at this point and doesnā€™t even bother hiding his disdain.

My first guess would be itā€™s likely aā€¦a script error? And was supposed to call him John. Tassiter is very condescending and would be calling him John on purpose.

However, because heā€™s slightly alarmed, out of panic he could have forgotten to be condescending and thus called him Jack. I dunno.

Tassiter knows Jack is incredibly vain and hates being called anything other than Jack (or Handsome Jackā€¦in a Clappy DLC mission, Wilhelm just calls him ā€œJackā€ and HJ gets pissed off and says something like ā€œYou mean HANDSOME JACK!ā€) so yeah he is just trying to piss him off.

I always wondered why Jack got called John. Okay, Tassiter do it to piss him off, if your theory is right. But at the end of the game that lady in the dark room asks for Tassiter and Jack answers. The reaction is ā€œJohn, is that you?ā€ like she donā€™t even know Jack is Jack. So what if Handsome Jack is really John and Jack is a nickname, cuz, ā€œcoolerā€ than John?

Jack is a nickname for John, doesnā€™t get used a lot anymore though.

Thatā€™s weird though, because in french, both of these names have their distinct equivalent.

Jean for John and Jacques for Jack

In the American language John and Jack are virtually the same names, like Richard and Dick, both acceptable to use but as noted earlier really isnā€™t used much anymore. Aslo at end game when the tassiters assistant calls Jack John I believe thereā€™s a very simple explanation. She was ā€œThe Tassitersā€ assistant and only reported to him, that being said it is no surprise that she only knows Jack as John considering anytime she heard his name was likely when Tassiter was probably pissed at Jack for yet another thing and was venting about it.

Jack is a nickname for John, John is the formal. Tassiter is pissed off at Jack and calls him John. Others have stated this and it is correct.

Well, that Jack and John thing is interesting. Never really heard of it. We only have Hans and Fritz as names here in my country of course :smirk:
