Has there ever been negative feedback about the respawn snarks?

I really love all the respawn station lines with the Hyperion girl’s voice. (I also like the Dahl officer’s ones in TPS).

I wonder if there are people that don’t like them, I wonder if it would be a reason for some to stop playing the game because of it.

More importantly, does anyone remember if there was a thread complaining about it on these forums or on the old forums ? If there were heated discussions about it ? Suprisingly lots of people not liking the respawn snarks ?

I don’t think so, but maybe there was and I never noticed. If anyone has a link or good memories about such a thing, please let me know. Also if you have a good memory of the old forum and are sure there’s not been too much complaints, if any, please let me know too…

Mentioned it: Annoying things in Borderlands 2 (Discussion)

Angel rubbing salt in it when you fail:

  • When you trip a barrel before the two Badass Psychos that come out of Lilith’s place (and after she warns you about the traps): “See? Traps. Don’t let that happen.”
  • Failing repeatedly to defend the beacon for the Overlook FTS: “Wow. You’re really bad at protecting that beacon.”</font color>

First one isn’t triggered by the player activating a trap or dieing though but rather by the Pyschos getting hit by the flame…
Second one also isn’t activated by player death but rather letting the beacon get disabled 4-5 times and is told by Jake not Angel.

@shoogli is talking about the sexy Hyperion woman who taunts you with phrases like “Live! Live!” after you respawn, not Angel harassing you about the beacon or Lilith’s lair.

I told my gaming buddy she has the perfect mix of sexiness and arrogance about her. I really like the stuff she says in the WEP. :dukeego:

Huh, the timing on the first really made it seem like it was my fault.
For the record, I’m was sure the second was Angel…

More often than not you likely will trigger flames and stuff as she says “traps…” but it really is the Psycho getting lit on fire and saying he can taste his melting flesh.
Bad timing can however make her seem like rubbing salt in the wound so it’s kinda close enough.

Na saying you are really bad at protecting the beacon was jack.

I do recall that there was this one thread where someone was really, really, hating on gbx for mocking the player. They were extremely angry about it, like OMG HOW DARE THEY.

But no, not that many people have reacted negatively to it, I think more people have commented that they liked the humour of that situation than have complained about it.

Second one is most definitely Jack. Angel is all, “You have to reset the beacon!” which had me totally panicked the first time through. I soon learned you should just ignore her, and could leave the beacon until you were done clearing the wave.

I really like those, although I hate hearing them because it means I died. The ones they added with the Tiny Tina DLC are hilarious. That’s one sassy lady, and it was nice to do the side quest for her in TPS. Talking of which, people seem to complain way more about the Dahl guy with the Oz kits and grinder than I’ve ever seen complaints about the Hyperion lady. Apparently, gruff male is out but sassy lady is in - who would have thought it?

LOL…

“Don’t think of your death as failure; think of it as fun! Don’t think of Hyperion’s New-U respawn charges as war profiteering, think of them as war…fun!”

“Hyperion is not responsible for any fingers, toes, or breasts added during the New-U respawn process.”

“Hyperion would like to take this opportunity to say: cha-ching!”

I think the problem with the Dahl guy is he’s so impatient. Pretty much as soon as you open the Grinder window he’s telling you to start it.

Unfortunately, the gaming community is full of players who have no sense of humor and take themselves way too seriously. Being mocked by the game itself for dying is just a hilariously brilliant idea, one that fits the atmosphere of the game perfectly. I truly don’t understand fans of the game who complain about the series being too cartoony in style and having too much self-aware humor. I have even seen people clamoring for a more realistic looking visual style for Borderlands 3. To me, the cartoony visuals are one of the most defining elements in the series and one of the things that made me actually notice the game in the first place. It wouldn’t be Borderlands if it looked like Halo or COD and if it didn’t have at least one little non-mission that’s there just for the funnies (like “Shoot This Guy in the Face”). There are a few missions that seem specifically designed to annoy the player (Grandma Flexington), and I actually love them. I simply love the fact that they actually took time to put them in the game just for a joke. The game is pretty damn long and full of content, so it can spare some time and memory space to be a little more playful with itself here and there. The visual style and the humor are two of the main reasons I like this game so much. It’s just so different from all of the other all too serious, realistic, homogenic and boring (to me) first person shooters out there. This game is actually fun and kinda unpredictable. Personally, I love the Hyperion lady. Those are some of the best quotes in the game, the voice work is great and I always get a chuckle out of them. If anything, it actually makes dying in the game seem a little less frustrating. It’s practically telling you that it doesn’t really matter, so you shouldn’t beat yourself up because of it too much.

Yeah, I’ve always thought that it fitted the game, too. I was a little surprised to see someone take such offence. Their fun really was ruined by it, iirc. It’s a bit of a shame, I guess. But one cannot please everyone etc.

The Hyperion corporation wishes to clarify that the bright light you saw after death was our digistruct technology, and not a higher power. Not higher than Hyperion, anyway.

Cool thanks all  !

I really needed to know about this to get an idea. This is because of a problem in another game I play (an mmo with a similar mechanic) and this lets me gauge, kind of, the validity of some claims in there.

As far as I’m concerned, the results are “as expected” !

I really never remembered such an outrage in the community but I thought I may have missed it.
So yeah, there’s been one guy here and there maybe, which is certainly normal as far as statistics/exceptions/whatever goes, but certainly not a sizeable chunk of players.

As Gaige might say, “SMASH THE FOURTH WALL!!!”

That tongue-in-cheek humour is what keeps me coming back. I do not WANT to play a serious, photorealistic game: I get enough realism everyday in real life thank you very much; games are where I go to escape that for a while. The Borderlands series fits that bill perfectly.

Oh my god, I thought I was the only one! I didn’t want to make a thread about it, because that would seem whiny, but now that someone else has said it, I just want to add:

OH MY GOD THAT GUY NEEDS TO CHILL
