I knew someone with their Deande-Mellka ship was going to swoop in on this. What? Two women can’t be friends?
Barely anyone plays Mellka, so it is hard to know what is going on from her perspective.
Anyway, back on topic, for me. Every time i hear ISIC say “I’m going to laugh about this until the heat death of the universe!” in that perpetually upbeat voice i smirk.
And, basically everything Marquis says. The LLC got all the love in this game, for real.

Whiskey Foxtrots lore challenge Some Find Me Repulsive gives further proof that he and Deande are dating because she says that he carries a lorrian weapon that no self respecting warrior should carry then says “but you, on the other hand… I would gladly bare you in a heartbeat. Should we meet in our usual spot?”. Nothing between reyna and foxtrot though.

I’m a woman. I have female friends. I also have a girlfriend. Don’t make this sound like we have to choose between one or the other. Mellka is quite clearly designed with a queer punk aesthetic, and its disingenuous to act like you can’t see why some of us would want to read her connection to Deande as a romantic one.
Edit: I should add, I think WF and Deande is pretty clearly canon. I just don’t think there’s anything remotely anti-female-friendship about liking the idea that Mell and Deande could develop an attraction while fighting together.
Especially as Mellka couldn’t look more like a queer pinup calendar model if they’d tried

I have no idea if AIs can have relationships 
but I sincerely hope that one of the, yet to be announced, characters will be Nova in “the robot suit”, just for more of the excellent Colleen Clinkenbeard’s voice acting.

As a K6 SWM I didn’t trust my own judgment on this, but my impression mirrors your take precisely. Mell actually reminds me strangely of a character (played by Freema Agyeman, who I’ve loved since Doctor Who) from a very cool Netflix series called Sense8.
Nova DEFINES badass. If she doesn’t turn out to be one of the DLC playable characters, I will have a serious sadz.

I’m not saying platonic and romantic love are mutually exclusive. I’m saying that demonstrations of at least platonic friendship should not automatically be construed as romantic.

I find this to be very true. Some game developers assume that the entire community is in the forums complaining, when in reality, the people who enjoy the game are too busy enjoying the game and rarely visit the forums.

I never knew how much I loved Jim Foronda until this game.
I feel like that’s more the players’ assumption usually, developers definitely gather data elsewhere too. They’re not as dumb as we regularly assume 
That being said, forum users are still a minority worth considering as lurkers hoping to be educated, while never speaking themselves, can still see what the forum users’ sentiments are and generate an opinion from that if they have none themselves (which is to say, non-players).

But there’s nothing automatic about the Mellka/Deande shippers. Mellka has a 'hawk and a bad girl attitude and combat armor and androgynous good looks. If you were to have a game where a beautiful long-haired male in feminine clothing developed a close battle relationship with a muscular lantern-jawed warrior, you’d get shippers as well. Singling out Mellka/Deande shipping the way you did, with an eye rollin “oh, so women can’t be friends then” attitude, was just needlessly provocative.
Mellka and Deande are an appealing couple. The game deliberately caters to the queer gamer crowd with, at the very least, characters who look like “us”. Shipping will happen. To quote Alani: you’ve gotta deal with it.
