This type called ‘complete type’ of Korean (2,350 + 48)
Commonly used character set.

I think that this is a minimum of minimum size of korean character.

P.s Before file is ‘combine type’(11,172) of Korean.

Using your more limited character set, but also adding English / Cyrillic and a few others I ended up with this:

66MB font.

I need to do some work in the font creator/engine to make it easier to ‘cherry pick’ from many font sources to create a single in-game font (so that the non-Korean characters could come from a more stylish font face). But it seems okay. Give this a shot and maybe post some screen-caps? I didn’t make as many ‘sizes’ as the HW:RM game uses - so I worry it won’t scale very cleanly. Here’s the layout I used:

Normal_1024 = Noto Sans CJK KR Thin, 16pt
Normal_1600 = Noto Sans CJK KR Regular, 22pt
Normal_3000 = Noto Sans CJK KR Medium, 40pt
Normal_8000 = Noto Sans CJK KR Black, 75pt

But, two parts are not good work.

  1. Font’s space is not cleared.


    Font’s bottom part is not cleary shown.

and, mouse over tooltip on ship part.
2. fonts was overlap… and too big.

also, these problem have shown with english.

So, I think that, smaller font was need for overlap problem.

  • May be required new other font file that 50% size of NotoSans
    but, not cleary shown problem…
  • May be More required bottom space.

Hrm… lots of weird stuff there. I may have to add another size, though that shouldn’t have mattered. I think the issue may relate to how that specific font treats the korean glyphs - and how the western glyphs are aligned relative. Regardless, I’ll look into it. It is really close to working though!

Hi BitVenom, I know you are busy these days, but can you also help us make a Chinese font ,since you have said the font we are using is not good enough?
Here is the .rcf font we are using at present , a list of all Chinese characters we need in the font (Sorry but this is the smallest list I can provide, since this font will not only be used in our Chinese patch but also every future Chinese MOD), and a simhei.ttf that comes with Windows.

Can you give me a .txt or related that has the characters (unicode/whatever works for you) from that .rcf? I need just a basic text file. I can use simhei, I am sure I have it :wink: I need to debug why the Korean fonts are acting like they are - and also add some features to the font tool (scaling new line/space, mixed-face gather, etc).

I think our .rcf contain all the Characters in the ChineseCharacters.txt in that link.

@BitVenom Other Problem was founded other korean player that reported my blog.
Under 1600 resolution video setting then character was shown half.

  • 1024*768

  • 1366*768

I think that does not have a 800/1024 typeface to this problem.

Sorry for the necro @BitVenom but is there any chance you might release your rcf tool at this point if it isn’t too much trouble?

I’m tinkering with the old HW2-era rcf tools linked in this topic to try and get the HW1 font bitmaps into proper rcf fonts. So far I’m running into a lot of crashes and rendering issues. The crashes in particular are apparently related to mismatched expectations of glyph height between the per-gylph rcf description and what the engine sets for higher resolutions (1280+). Or I (probably) have no idea how it really works. Either way I’m having a pretty hard time since I want the same small (14px height) fixed font size (or at least width) at all resolutions.

When I do manage to get past the crashes the fonts don’t render at all or I get grey rectangles across half the screen. The font I’m testing with is the ATISmallFont (originally smallfonts7) which seems to be the most rigorous one.

I was thinking your tool might save me some measure of sanity before I give up again. Alternatively it would also be a huge help if you were able to share any information about the expectations the engine has about glyph sizes and height at different font resolutions.

@BitVenom I am translating to Portuguese from the English language and came across strange characters because of the difference in accentuation that the English language does not have as “áôãçà”.

I don’t want to occupy you, my question is just doubt only.
I know the Spanish version has accentuation and it works but I prefer to translate straight from English for a more faithful translation.
The question is: what is the file responsible for accentuation? How do I switch from English to the responsible file used in Spanish?
