If you think it’s going to get banned every time what’s the point of including it?
Whilst I appreciate your efforts of finding a sponsor and trying to get some, this isn’t what got me interested in playing in the ps4 league. I didn’t even know there was a prize until it actually started. Just the thought of being put in a pool of players, getting drafted into fair teams and just playing some competitive games on a weekly basis was enough for me to join.
I don’t mean to sound harsh, but I simply think you were too late. Maybe people will sign up, heck maybe I will if there’s enough people, but with the league already going on and doing very well, I don’t think it’s going to work out too well.
To give the chance to have it. Let me reverse the question: What’s everyone’s huge problem with including anything other than Incursion? What makes every other mode SO much more imbalanced? Why is everyone so afraid of becoming a well rounded Battleborn player?
I get trying to expand your horizons to include everybody. The issue is this though. This game has a tiny community. It has an even smaller competitive community. Out of the few competitive players left, I don’t know of any that think capture and/or faceoff belong in competitive play. Where is the incentive for this small group of players to want to join this when the other team can easily ban out the 2 modes they have been playing for months and months and force them into “competitively” playing a game mode that has been out of the competitive setting since launch. That just seems like a slap in the face to me. I respect what you are doing, I really do. I’m probably one of the only people still playing this game that actually participated in HGL tourneys on Xbox. But including capture and faceoff is a bad idea.
Snowballing. Faceoff and capture snowball hard and there isn’t much hope for the team that is losing early. Meltdown is the same way but not quite as bad. However my main issue with meltdown is that it’s a shard contest. I’d be willing to bet that in 4 out of 5 matches, the team who buys more big bots will win the game. Yes the increase in cost of big bots on paper should help with this, I personally just think that it will lead to more builder loadouts. Incursion actually has a mechanic that gives the team that is behind more of a fighting chance with the longer spawns after the first sentry goes down.
This is th3 same problem the competitive community has always had with HGL Tourneys. For literal months people have been telling you to drop Face off and Capture. If anything the competitive community is even more united against Face off and Capture, since we’ve realized only half the roster is viable in these modes.
This is what confuses us and makes wonder why we even still host tournaments for battleborn. cause it seems like when we do what the community dont want we get barked at, but we manage to get participants. When we do what the community prefers most time nothing happens with it. Which makes us think that there is no respect for what we do or have done.
Yes, but they’re offering an alternative with different rules that could be fun. They’ve been running tournaments longer than anyone else.
As opposed to how everyone is equally balanced for Incursion? Beatrix is honour banned in the Xbox league and Boldur, Kelvin, Ghalt and either Benedict or Thorn have been banned in every league game I’ve played so far (with the exception of target banning Blaine and Nemo’s Rath/Deande combo).
The snowballing thing I’ll give you a little bit on, but if we’ve had the argument that all teams in a competitive league should be at equal skill level (they’re not) then it lessens the blow a bit, imo.
I just can’t believe that someone is putting this much effort into something for the community and getting ■■■■ on this hard for it.
Well, to be honest that’s news to me. I frequent the Reddit and the GBX forums fairly regularly and I had no idea HGL was hosting games.
Ima be honest, I was burned by HGL when I participated in the tourney after the Winter Update that took nearly 12 hours. Obviously the changes to the rules address this, but I think that many competitive players still remember those early hiccups. If there wasn’t Capture/Face off and if there weren’t console leagues already, this would be a smash hit.
There were only 3 players signed up as free agents because it was the first week the ps4 league started, and now that the league is happening, people probably aren’t going to be involved in many weekend tournements![quote=“JewThug, post:32, topic:1563351”]

This is it right here. Balancing has been an issue since launch and it shows most in capture and face off. Some characters are just not built for it and the ones that are can hold their own in incursion and meltdown too.
not to sound like a pessimistic ■■■■■■■ or anything but there really is no point in doing so. each platform has its own league and chances are people will stick to that instead.
Perhaps it would be advantageous for HGL to take a different approach in this case.
As mentioned, a number of players didn’t have the best experiences with the past tournaments, and what may have compounded that was how long it took for HGL to react and pivot accordingly. Since then, the respective competitive communities have started their own leagues. Within them they have established their own means to help balance teams and matches.
I understand that the members of HGL are busy and the time you’ve put in could be directed elsewhere, so perhaps for the case of battleborn, you could take a less hands-on approach, in which the leagues still operate, but include in their streams and other outward-facing communications, they could brand the leagues “HGL Presents”. In turn, HGL would still do what you’ve been doing to garner sponsorship and generate interest.
This really would likely be a win-win for all involved and especially cut down on the time and resources needed to organize the events.
This would also align well with HGL messaging via the website “… to give players of all skill levels a fair community driven Esport Scene.”
Just an after thought from what has been posted, PC League has incorporated Capture into their matches with what I understand to be general success.
I’m suprised that you are not doing a supercharge tournament since we haven’t had one yet and it is a fresh new mode so no one has been playing it nonstop for a year. It might be easier to get more teams than the 5v5 modes. It would offer something that is different than the existing community run leagues. Idk. If there were a supercharge league I might be interested enough to watch some of the matches to see how it goes at the least. It might end up being a stomp fest but it might not. It would be interesting to see though.
