*Horde Mode Idea*

Gearbox,

You’ve done a phenomenal job with your game, but the story mode grind for legendary gear is counter-productive. There are places to explore and good dialogue, but when you boil it down story mode is a series of escort or defense missions leading to a raid with a story stitching them together.

The campaign was intriguing THE FIRST TIME. While it’s a good idea to reward ‘dedication,’ even your favorite meal turns bland if you eat it enough.

I’m not saying get rid of story mode, but giving players another method to unlock these legendaries, such as a horde mode with varying difficulties or effects, would allow players to forgo the exhaustive (though beautiful) story maps and get down to an all out fight for the universe (not to mention the wicked fun slaughter parties in triumph over their enemies).

By ‘horde mode’ I mean:
-5 players
-Limited lives
-Varying Maps
-Scaling enemies
-Scaling rewards (Say on Adv Hardcore you get an extra legendary every 5 waves or something)
-etc. (Like Gears of War 3 but with Shards, Turrets, and 10x the sword on sword action)

Example reward pool (Adv. Hardcore)*:
Wave 5: 1 Legendary 2 Epic.
Wave 10: 2 Legendaries 2 Epics 2 Uncommon
Wave 15: 4 Legendaries 3 Epics 3 Uncommon

*Just an example, may not actually represent the difficulty.

Other Solutions:
Raids: Just cut to the chase and cut them down!
Escort: Reach the end = victory.
Defense: Same as story mode. Protect the core through a definite number of waves = victory (Even though this mission type is annoying).

Thank you for your time.
What do others think?

Story mode basically is a horde mode.

love this idea

Similarity is not equivalence.
Grapes are basically raisins, but they are not put into cereal or cookies as grapes.
Candy is basically sugar, but substituting a recipe that calls for 1 1/2 cups sugar with 1 1/2 cups skittles isn’t the best idea, unless you’re just much better at cooking than I (or braver).
CO2 is basically CO

The things separating them from being EXACTLY the same make a difference.

I love the idea of a horde mode.

Just play the Renegade and the Sabateur. You could maybe jump into the experiment too if you feel like mixing it up.

Story mode is pretty horde-y.

Unless they kick it up a notch and make it a boss rush.

Honestly I like the sound of a horde mode with bosses thrown in…I feel like a simple arena with obstacles thrown in and a boss fight every now and then would do the trick with decent rewards or maybe special currency that you can trade in to a shop for specific drops so you get something gauranteed eventually…Or the more fleshed out and complicated way is something similar to diablo dungeon crawls with several other players leading to a boss at the end that leads to more dungeons and special side events and such…Could be very very attractive to players as another standalone game mode Ims ure many would enjoy

As long as it has a Zombie spider Geoff.

it would be really funny if they made fun of blops zombies by making a similar zombie stage with doors and such. Throw in zombie spider geoff as a boss even if its just a small part easter egg

The game is practically like Serious Sam in Hardcore Advanced, just did a day of it and have 300 hours in Story mode now.

Me: "Story modes repetitiveness and length is an issue"
You: “Go play story mode”

==

Me: "I don’t like soup (I REALLY don’t)."
You: “You could always try this broccoli soup or this chicken noodle soup.”

I understand that there are varying story missions, that fact does not nullify my suggestion nor my qualms.

You could argue Call of Duty’s campaign is “horde-y (note the ‘-y’ signifying close similarity, but not exactness).”

Yet zombies (and Spec Ops Survival) still existed.

Is it possible that there is a solution to my problem that isn’t the problem? I’d like to hope so.

@wisecarver Congratulations.

Love the idea. Drop rates are waaaay too high (Unless each round takes like an hour) The game’s drops are about RNG. I’d say as you go along you have a higher and higher chance to get a legendary though. Maybe there’s a “round (#) lootpack” that gives you more and more stuff, or better and better stuff, the higher the wave number, and so if you do 10 rounds you’d get one “Round 10 lootpack” that may guarantee rare or higher, and give you a total of like say 4 pieces of gear and 500 credits. And at the end of every 5th round you get one of those chests that give a piece of gear and an extra life and some other stuff (the six slots).

Well unfortunately it’s still a thing of fiction so It’s hard to consider what rewards are appropriate. Adv. Hardcore is a high amount of risk for a horde mode; theoretically anyway. Credits should be apart of the wave rewards as well I agree. As for the numbers, I just typed nonsense because nothing I put would be accurate (Either too much or too little either way).

Merging threads…Please do not be concerned if you experience any disorientation.

The game needs to be fixed in many ways first but I would love to have a horde mode.

I would love any type of new mode or map! Alas the game isn’t as bad as people make it out to be but to each his own. I don’t need someone to tell me how to have a good time (88hrs clocked in reg game and about the same amt during the beta) I would say I’m hooked.

I was more or less making a joke towards the “story” mode as they called it that Gearbox is pushing in this game. Too many games are doing horde mode type things and it’s boring and quite frankly I hate it.
