I would have expected something by now! I’ve only had the game here since about 3pm GMT but it must be 24hrs by now considering other time zones. I’m really quite upset as this was my birthday present plus I’ve been anticipating this for a long time

Agreed. This horizontal orientation is messing with both my and my fiancée’s heads, and making reading almost anything (save for the subtitles, which they oddly added an option for size adjustment for) impossible. We can’t play on a very large TV right now, so this game is currently unplayable for us, and that’s a real bummer, as we spent $250 on the Diamond Loot Chest edition. We’ve been waiting YEARS for this!
I sincerely hope they fix this soon. I’m sure they will, given BL3 currently has only a 5/10 rating, 90% due to this specific issue.

This game is utterly unplayable as released. If Gearbox doesn’t do something soon about adding vertical splitscreen and increasing text sizes, I’ll be returning the game. I will not be playing this in single-player; Borderlands is only good as a couch co-op. Take that away and it’s another mediocre looter-shooter.

impossible to play on horizontal split screen. include the vertical split screen again … it is impossible to play and the texts are not read, the text is very small.

Here to echo everyone’s reaction, and to add another voice of displeasure to the list.
My wife and I have poured hours into playing BL1, BL2, PreSequel, DLCs and have loved every minute of it. Exclusively playing it with vertical splitscreen (me on the left, her on the right) we’ve beaten every badass, boss, and level together as a team.
If there is anything this thread has shown me is that there is a significant share of players who play this game in CO-OP, sharing in all the joy/fun/loot/mayhem with friends and family, as it is one of the few remaining games that allow for couch splitscreen. I find it extremely disappointing that the Gearbox team just failed to fully develop or test the game for this feature.
When I initially heard there was only one setting for splitscreen I wasn’t concerned, because I figured it would only allow vertical splitscreen. On modern, HD TVs no one in their right mind would want to play the game in a SUPER-WIDE widescreen aspect ratio on a horizontal split. With today’s technology, vertical split is the best way to go, as horizontal split was designed for old 4:3 screens.
Personally, I’m glad we didn’t take off work to play today as we originally intended to do, and I’m sorry for those who did. I hope that Gearbox addresses these concerns at least officially stating they are aware of the issues ASAP, but ideally with a future patch within the next few weeks.
After all the excitement and having the Super Deluxe BL3 ready to play, my wife and I will instead be stuck playing more BL2 until this gets fixed. Please give us co-op gamers hope, Gearbox!

You can not play this game on my big 65”, vertical split screen needs to be done before I even start the game

Yeah, it’s rough, especially considering the game is actually incredibly well-done. It just isn’t polished quite enough for the hype/legacy this sort of title holds.
Besides the splitscreen, lag is another common issue, especially while in-menu on splitscreen.

I’ve been excited for months to get my wife into this. But it’s just that little bit too hard without horizontal split screen. Weapons are unreadable, and enemies are unseeable. It’s hard enough for her having to learn how to FPS.

Plenty of time to use the complete and functioning Borderlands games (1 / 2 / TPS) to introduce her to the series and FPS in general!
That might take you a while, so you can come back and play BL3 when it inevitably goes on sale and bundled together after wading through all this skag spit!
Half joking, half not. I’m continuing to play BL2 DLC, then TPS and TFTB with my girlfriend while we wait for BL3 to be a real game.

I’m also surprised Gearbox hasn’t made a official statement about this yet. BL3 users score is low on Metacritic. Maybe our voices will be heard by reviewing it over there too.

I will be as well on Sunday if no patch is released for the split screen.

@Gearbox The Co-op Council has spoken! We demand an official response! …Please and thank you
But seriously, how was this overlooked? Did YOU even play the game split screen before releasing it?
Look at how many hearts have been broken. How many eyes have been burned. How many heads you made ache!
All we’re asking for is what was promised to us, a badass co-op experience, that you have provided in the past… over and over again. What changed this time? Who got to you? It was activision wasn’t it? Tsk tsk tsk.
Look, we’re all just upset because we were super excited for this, and we wanna play that which we have all been waiting for for so long.

Same issues here on PS4. Super disappointed after being so hyped for this game for so long. I hope they patch it soon, it’s unplayable in co op mode
the game looks so promising too aside from these issues, which adds insult to injury since we can’t even play together

Yes please. My girlfriend and I were primed to play all weekend, as we loved BL1 and 2. I just tested the splitscreen before she gets off work, and I’ll have to tell her the game is currently unplayable.
very unfortunate. Not even sure if I’ll play solo now…I wanted to experience the story with her first.

Apparently Gearbox has no plans to add vertical splitscreen? Why, why would they not just have it in the first place in a game that is known for its couch co-op?!

Same here: My spouse and I have played every borderlands game and DLC and always with vertical split. I have a widescreen tv and it works great. Even with a 65" screen, the horizontal is unplayable. Characters and details are too small and text is completely unreadable. Wondering if we can get a refund for an unplayable game at this point. We buy Borderlands specifically for the couch coop options because so few games have this option. I’ve never been so disappointed after waiting years for a game. Gearbox, this absolutely has to be fixed. Did you even playtest the horizontal option and try to read any of the menu text?

Source on this comment for no planned vertical? The article doesn’t mention where this was stated.
If this is accurate, I guess I’ll be refunding.
