The best MOBA advice I can give anyone is that staying alive, while getting XP sources is much more important than getting a kill.
Remember, if you mess someone up, and they have to run for their lives, then theyâre not around to get XP from anything (buying turrets, killing minions, getting shards) this is a win for you even if itâs not a kill. When you get people pushed out, make sure to fall back and gather shards/spend shards, grab objectives.
The little shards in middle are worth less than the shards by your base, this means a fast moving character can make circuits back toward your base when you have a chance and pick up a lot more shards. The faster you spend shards (even on the crappy middle turret) the faster you level up.
The way a moba works, with the long TTK is that youâre going to be mostly okay when you are able to run, youâre going to die when you canât run back to safety. So if youâre dying a lot, itâs going to mean that youâre in a position where your escape is gone, either because your teammates have backed up, or because youâve moved too far forward.
Another thing you want to pay attention to is team composition. If your team is stacked with squishy, low health characters, donât pick a squishy low health character. A good team will always need at least one of all three classes (support, defender, attacker) Most people like to play attackers⌠even though they die easier, and bring less to the team, defending isnât as glorious, but itâs necessary to setup your teammates. If everyone is squishy then their tanks are going to run in, CC you, and youâll die before you can get your damage off⌠and you canât deal damage if youâre dead.
So make sure to pick something that works well with your teammates, not just the character you really like.
In that vein, fight WITH your teammates. Even as most assassins, youâre going to have trouble 1v1 killing someone, because theyâre going to have lots of health, and theyâre going to try to run back to the safety of their teammates⌠if theyâre running and youâre chasing, then youâre at a disadvantage. That same enemy hit by a CC chain wouldnât be able to run, so if youâre a squishy, get near a tank that can help set you up⌠and if youâre a tank, get near a squishy that can finish enemies off for you.
And on the Oscar Mike subject, OM is a pusher, his napalm 'nades will help you shove minions down the enemy teamâs throat (remember, the minions are more important than kills, theyâll get you the win) he may not be the most damaging character, but heâs really going to help you win a game (which is more important) make sure you have at least one effective lane-clearing character on your team or youâll wind up being pushed into your sentry almost every time.
