There is actually a brilliant bit of talk in between sketches on Key & Peele about how Ryan Gosling, for a good portion of any movie or program he is in, just has that kind of blank non-expression on his face and how the movie / program watchers just project their own emotions onto him as to how that scene is making his character feel.
For example, during a sad scene, his expression will not change, but the audience members will be all like “Oh, Ryan Gosling must be feeling so sad right now!”
Basically, because he’s so ridiculously good looking, Ryan Gosking doesn’t actually need to act or emote.
(in my defence, i am a big Ryan Gosling fan)
