How to counter Thorn?

Pretty much most Melee characters.

Of course. You should have read further:

Throne is ma boi!

Ehhhh, like I said before, not always. Standing still or moving at normal speed vs jumping randomly? Come on now…

When someone jumps it’s easy to hit them because you know where they are going to land.

Jumping doesn’t work against snipers, as Blaine said you know where they will land so it’s easy to hit a shot.

You have considerable experience, now, in how effective random jumping is as a defense against a talented sniper.

It makes headshot kills look more fabulous than if said target had both feet on the ground

I slide when I’m being sniped, as it seems to throw off patient snipers who expected me to keep hopping. Also lateral movement via air stall works well too.

As you and others have said, just plain hopping is a good way to get killed

Even though Thorn’s body is rather slim, I have to say her head is pretty easy to keep track of because of her white hair. Sticks out against the colorful landscapes, even easier to track if she’s bunny hopping.

After the three or so responses to sniping that makes me kinda feel dumb

But, like, rightfully so, I deserved that. Thanks for the now obvious piece of information!

still, however, jumping vs moving sideways or simply standing still… You also have to deal with the problem of possibly not being able to catch them when they land, since the lane could be cluttered with enemies, making shooting from even a sniper perch tedious if your targets lie in a certain spot. I mean, no one should really engage, say, Marquis in an open field, except for a few characters like Benedict or something (as Hawkeye would be easy to land).

Also, I can’t tell myself for sure who has a more accurate primary in the instance of Thorn or Marquis. I mean, I’ve aimed towards the outer edge of a friend’s frame in testing and still managed to hit him with Thorn’s arrows. Marquis is a little more difficult on the other hand. Maybe that’s just me being bad. It’s probably that. But, like, hopefully not.

Not my intention, is just that the patch to Battleborn’s framerate significantly helped Snipers so the patient ones who get to set up and snipe all classic like and practiced their shot with the sniper of their choice really benefited from the framerate increase. No longer do shots lag out of the way like they used to. Jumping back and forth, without someway to create some sort of aerial confusion, is indeed a nice way to get shot because the practiced Marquis, Tobys and Thorns of the world have practiced for that situation and all Battleborn, no matter the size, are kinda slow and floaty when in mid air. Even if they can’t nail you while in the peak of the jump, tracking and predicting the trajectory of a bouncing Orendi for instance is not too hard when you’re mastered your sniper of choice, just wait for gravity to put her down in your crosshairs.

In relation to characters like Thorn and Melka who can air stall. Doesn’t work all that well for thorn because she’s significantly taller than Melka (in my experience I’ve never had trouble hitting an air stalling Thorn especially because at lvl 7 my Marquis attack speed is well over 40%). Melka is smaller with more sudden motions that make her much harder to hit and her hit box is half the size of Thorns height wise. Plus the aforementioned slide halves her height hit box even more.

Hope they mess up their helix options and don’t get the high jump, because once she gets it it becomes an annoyance to deal with her.

Aw, that’s no fun

I’ve still had issues with shots just not registering as Marquis. I’m not leet MLG pro at Marquis or whatever, but I can definitely tell the difference between a clean miss and a strange disappearance. Deande, Thorn, and Phoebe have always had strange hitboxes to me when I play Thorn, Marquis, Foxtrot. It’s not an issue with other characters, not even Mellka. I think I have the most difficulty with Deande - I don’t know what that chick’s problem is, but I think her frame is thinner than it really is.

I just find it weird that I’m fine with dealing with Mellkas as Marquis, but not those three I mentioned. Mellka is extremely jumpy, erratic, etc., I don’t even have to continue. But I can nail more hits on her than, say, Thorn. It confuses me.

Sorry man I would recommend Galilea but with the recent nerf to her pull it’s become a bit tricky, What I try and do is get used and try to read her jumping patterns as anyone that gets good with Thorn is gonna be jumping allover the map almost Non-Stop. the speed of her jump slows down a bit when she’s coming down, that’s when you want to shield stun and start wacking away, hopefully people in your team focus her down, a benedict or orendi can burn her fast at this point, keep in mind how long the stun last and use your pull as soon as she comes out of it.

Now if you are solo and don’t have help my best suggestion would be Orendi equipped with some cooldown gear. it’s fairly easy to take out a thorn if you can spam and overwhelm her. Besides that Her shape and high jumps make her a pain to deal with most characters if you can’t slow her or stun her. Good luck

There’s a very small window to stun her, and you also have to remember that she’s probably in the backline, so even if you do stun her, you still have to close the gap somehow.

I say Benedict is the best counter to her, since he melts most squishies rather quickly. Orendi I think would be a little more difficult, as her shadowfire pillars are good at keeping people back, and are used as such - not too often are they spawned far enough behind to melt Thorn. You’d have to get some distance in. Though with her ult you could probably do some damage.

The good thing about Thorn is she’s a sniper, now it may sound strange at first, but hear me out.

Snipers, and every sniper in the history of gaming is guilty for doing it, tend to get zoned into their scope and while Thorn has a bow, a lot of Thorns get into this zone where shooting down lane is their only priority and paying attention to the guy about to wail on them two feet from their left isn’t. That’s your prime opportunity to strike. It may not always be recognizable at first, but practicing in identifying a sniper that is, as I call it, ā€œto deep in scopeā€ can result in a lot of key thorn deaths. She’s very wriggly and her jump height being what it is, especially after the helix to increase it, can cause trouble tracking her down, but characters who are just as mobile as her (Benedict, Melka, Rath, Phoebe) with good damage and the ability to ā€œstay in her faceā€ mentality can counter her. Sure Thorn is a powerhouse with damage these days, but hard for a Thorn to outdamage someone who’s gotten a good 2-3 second head start in smashing them in the face.

This is an often reported issue with him. I’ve seen videos of it too. Just another of those mysterious glitches that would be a high priority in a less-buggy game.

The Marquis issue isn’t a framerate issue, I suspect it may be a server issue on BB’s end. We’ve had that on PC since launch afaik, and we’ve never been locked behind 30 frames. My PC is more than enough horsepower for BB at 120 frames, though I play at 60 due to monitor limits. Marquis will randomly miss perfectly aimed scoped shots quite often. Although irritating, thankfully it has never been often enough to the point where I would never play Marquis.

Aiming down sights with thorn, yuck.
