How to deal with deserters and rage quitters. Ideas?

This is the best argument I’ve ever heard

What I’m saying is that u cannot take games too serious, the more u care, the less fun u have.

If it is a serious problem or one that goes to heart like people purposely ruining fun or name calling, by all means leave. But if ur dieing a lot or not playing how u wanted, leaving is the jerk move. Also with the new xp update why would u want to leave? U get 60 Xp for a LOSS.

That’s why there’s a mute option. Also, a report abusive language/behavior. Eventually they’ll get a ban for it (or at least that’s what I can tell from what I’ve read from Gearboxs goal in the reporting system).

But again Scrat, why is it only the people that LEAVE a game, need to take that advice? Why is it the people who decry leavers, deserve to be heard and have measures put into place to assuage THEIR feelings on the game.

You’re saying that I shouldn’t care that much…okay, why can’t you care just as little? Again, to be clear: I have ZERO problem with what the anti-surrender crowd says. I would wholeheartedly support even an hour long ban on players who leave again. But that has to be backed up for people that make others WANT to leave a game, for a very good reason.

If I know that I am frustrated with a game, that my advice and my pleading does nothing to stir the feelings of others, I will go dark. I tell everyone who knows me, “Never put an ultimatum to me. Because my natural instinct is to find the worst possible outcome we will all live with, and see that outcome through.”

If I can’t leave a game and feel better, I will stay…and find ways to make everyone feel WORSE. If boneheaded plays that sabotage our chances are the rule, then I’ve got no problem engaging in that very same behavior. If someone needs to showboat their latest anti-role build(Healers playing DPS and ignoring heals, Tanks trying to group heal or self heal through everything etc.) I’ll just start stealing shards and waiting till they’re neck deep in the fight before spawning a bot, so that it arrives too late to help them, ON TOP of not healing or clearing out minion waves. if I can’t figure out how to bring these individuals into a team, I’ll destroy the team play myself. And since there’s no restriction ON that kind of play, no one can report me for it.

THAT is the doomsday scenario I foresee. Not just spiteful behavior, but vengeful spite meant to ruin EVERYONE’S fun deliberately. Players going out of their way to destroy a game, JUST to piss everyone else off. And once it starts, no amount of bans or reports will curb it. By THAT point, people will be way past caring.

The thought of helping someone that abuses me verbally makes my skin crawl. Why should I be forced to play a match with someone like that?

If you leave because of RL then you aren’t going to play another game immediately after. It would be very easy for them to tell that majority of the time. If you try and join a game immediately after leaving or with-in 15 minutes or whatever then you, more than likely, left unsportsmanlike.

That would require constant monitoring and complete acquisition of player data which brings up privacy concerns

Privacy concerns? No, you agreed to their terms already. That’s the first thing you do when you start up the game. If you’re playing the game you’ve accepted their terms. It’s not a stretch for them at all. Majority of the code is in place, hence not being able to join a game until your previous game is finished.

If others think spawning a bit late is BONEHEADED, u clearly have more problems than leaving. The last 10 games I’ve played have all gone pretty bad. Me as pendles versus a whole team with reveals while all my teammates are 12 and lower. The way I responded was making the game last the entire 30 minutes with being that annoying little ■■■■■. My last game was against ambra, OM, miko, orendi, and Montana. My second highest teammate was a 7. But I stayed the entire 30 minutes while 2 teammates left. We lost 100-50 but I still got my hunk of xp while my leaving teammates waited for it to end. In the end it’s not worth it and a jerk move.

Except, we can’t join a game, until the current one is finished. When I leave a game under bad conditions, I just watch Youtube, or fiddle around with my gear sets, seeing how the numbers play out. Or I do inventory, clearing out duplicate mods, or buying new loot packs. Or, I DO just go and play another game. I’ve jumped from Battleborn to Uncharted 4, The Witcher 3, or No Man’s Sky without a care. And very often I STAY in those games once I’m in them.

what code?

I’ve had games where our team has zero kills and are slaughtered at the objective. Frusturating fro a moment and then I think… How can I make this fun? I’m going to end their kill steak! Then I start having fun again haha.

If there’s no victory in sight and your team isn’t playing the objectives then you can still find some way to have fun and not leave. Glad that we have that same mindset @scratson sometimes it’s just fun to be as much of a nuisance to the other team as possible haha.

I’m not following what you mean by spawning a bit late. If you’re talking not leaving the starting area at first, that’s not something I would leave over.

As far as waiting for the game to end, as I said, it doesn’t affect my outlook. If anything, it encourages me to just go play something else instead. I never sit there waiting for a match to end. My PS4 isn’t on lockdown just because I left a battleborn match, and if I left, I doubt I’m in a good enough mood to want to play again and chance the same thing happening twice.

Tbh I just wanna say that if u don’t it to happen again, don’t leave. But as I’m a nice, helpful person I will say, if u just mess around a bit it may not bother u as much with what others are doing

Their source code. It’s a huge part of programming. Tells the game how to function. Rules and reactions.

It DOES bother me. I stopped playing CoD over this nonsense. If all someone cares about is a K/D ratio, I want to scream to them to go back to their beloved Modern Warfare or Ghosts or whatever non-Infinity Ward Infinity Ward version of CoD lets them get big raging stiffies over K/D rates.

This is a game where people are supposed to work together. We’re NOT supposed to all be Master Chiefs or Marcus Fenixes, one-shotting our way to glory. Throwing that aside for ignorant plays, makes me wish games like BB hadn’t been created, so I could happily ignore a subset of the gaming community I have no interest in.

I just hope in the future that ppl will find a mutual feeling over fpsmobas

What does that have to do with complete and constant acquisiton of everything the player does?

That’s already done. That’s why it wouldn’t take much to add an additional reaction to certain behaviors. How is that not relevant? Haha.
