How to deal with deserters and rage quitters. Ideas?

That would require constant monitoring and complete acquisition of player data which brings up privacy concerns

Privacy concerns? No, you agreed to their terms already. That’s the first thing you do when you start up the game. If you’re playing the game you’ve accepted their terms. It’s not a stretch for them at all. Majority of the code is in place, hence not being able to join a game until your previous game is finished.

If others think spawning a bit late is BONEHEADED, u clearly have more problems than leaving. The last 10 games I’ve played have all gone pretty bad. Me as pendles versus a whole team with reveals while all my teammates are 12 and lower. The way I responded was making the game last the entire 30 minutes with being that annoying little ■■■■■. My last game was against ambra, OM, miko, orendi, and Montana. My second highest teammate was a 7. But I stayed the entire 30 minutes while 2 teammates left. We lost 100-50 but I still got my hunk of xp while my leaving teammates waited for it to end. In the end it’s not worth it and a jerk move.

Except, we can’t join a game, until the current one is finished. When I leave a game under bad conditions, I just watch Youtube, or fiddle around with my gear sets, seeing how the numbers play out. Or I do inventory, clearing out duplicate mods, or buying new loot packs. Or, I DO just go and play another game. I’ve jumped from Battleborn to Uncharted 4, The Witcher 3, or No Man’s Sky without a care. And very often I STAY in those games once I’m in them.

what code?

I’ve had games where our team has zero kills and are slaughtered at the objective. Frusturating fro a moment and then I think… How can I make this fun? I’m going to end their kill steak! Then I start having fun again haha.

If there’s no victory in sight and your team isn’t playing the objectives then you can still find some way to have fun and not leave. Glad that we have that same mindset @scratson sometimes it’s just fun to be as much of a nuisance to the other team as possible haha.

I’m not following what you mean by spawning a bit late. If you’re talking not leaving the starting area at first, that’s not something I would leave over.

As far as waiting for the game to end, as I said, it doesn’t affect my outlook. If anything, it encourages me to just go play something else instead. I never sit there waiting for a match to end. My PS4 isn’t on lockdown just because I left a battleborn match, and if I left, I doubt I’m in a good enough mood to want to play again and chance the same thing happening twice.

Tbh I just wanna say that if u don’t it to happen again, don’t leave. But as I’m a nice, helpful person I will say, if u just mess around a bit it may not bother u as much with what others are doing

Their source code. It’s a huge part of programming. Tells the game how to function. Rules and reactions.

It DOES bother me. I stopped playing CoD over this nonsense. If all someone cares about is a K/D ratio, I want to scream to them to go back to their beloved Modern Warfare or Ghosts or whatever non-Infinity Ward Infinity Ward version of CoD lets them get big raging stiffies over K/D rates.

This is a game where people are supposed to work together. We’re NOT supposed to all be Master Chiefs or Marcus Fenixes, one-shotting our way to glory. Throwing that aside for ignorant plays, makes me wish games like BB hadn’t been created, so I could happily ignore a subset of the gaming community I have no interest in.

I just hope in the future that ppl will find a mutual feeling over fpsmobas

What does that have to do with complete and constant acquisiton of everything the player does?

That’s already done. That’s why it wouldn’t take much to add an additional reaction to certain behaviors. How is that not relevant? Haha.

ugh. I played last night. I wanted to play Ernest (and got to pick him)

4 out of 7 games didn’t start because cry-babies quit when I got Ernest before them.

Had a very similar experience tonight… sigh I sometimes wonder at the emotional maturity of some of these online gamers lol (disclaimer: battleborn is my first (and most likely only) pvp game I’ve played)

I currently play Ernest, Toby to be nice, or one of my mains.
I won’t quit cause I didn’t get Ernest.
If I wanted to play him THAT badly, I’d hop into a premade or PvE.

Of course, there’s no easy answer for this. Hell, I myself am in the camp that deserters/rage-quitters should be drawn and quartered and afterwards have their entrails on display near the center of the map for all to see as a warning (teamwork, however temporary, is a huge deal to me).

That being said, I know sometimes stuff happens outside the user’s control. Power fluxes, network issues, a pain-in-the-ass younger sibling, stuff like that. Personally, I like to go on a case-by-case basis and just report if able depending on the severity - things like going AFK because the team won’t surrender, someone ended up being the first kill, or simply losing regardless of how minute the loss currently is (I was in an Incursion match where the other team surrendered and the score was 100-98 in our favor). It’s not a perfect system for what I think are obvious reasons, but it is what it is.

I have to admit that I’m one of the players who leave/go afk when the teams are either unbalanced from the start or it’s a complete stomp. That beeing said I never leave a game just because I picked the wrong character or get killed over and over again…

In my opinion players should be given the chance to leave the game at the beginning when the game is assembling teams. Show both teams before voting for maps and give everyone the chance to accept or leave. I still don’t know who came up with the stupid idea to not show the players on your/the enemy team while assembling teams.

In game you should only be allowed to leave without beeing punished after asking for surrender. So if you are getting demolished and you’re asking for surrender but 3 people want to play, the other 2 should be allowed to leave if the team does’nt surrender. You need to at least cast a vote for surrender to leave without punishment. That would help against these trolls who vote against surrender just to leave 30 secs later.

I know that a lot of people probably don’t like these ideas but forcing someone to play a lost game/game that isn’t fun to him or her will do more harm then good. So the idea of punishing someone for not playing is just … stupid.

And therein lies the problem to all this: there are nigh infinite variations and permutations to what constitutes as “fun”. There was another thread where another Battleborn said that this all boils down to “My fun overrules your fun.”

You’re not having fun, so you leave. Now I’m not having fun because you left. Not only that, and this is just me talking here, I’m wary of trusting you if we ever end up on the same team again. And lo and behold, we’re right back to having this conversation about what to do with people who quit early.

The world is cruel indeed.

Those who quit get death by looped Nyan cat vids.
