Neat! Are the euro retail versions actually going to have discs inside?

Wow, now THAT’S going back to your roots. Physical copy what.

They will - it’ll still need to activate through Steam, but there will be a physical install disc included.

Hmm this is pretty interesting though because it’s kind of out of the ordinary (at least I haven’t heard of something like this happening much, if at all). I don’t know enough about distribution and sales and stuff like that to quite know why a decision like this would be made. Did they have more sales than they expected and think there is a bigger market to reach via physical sales? Did they not sell enough and is trying to get more sales via physical copies? Does it just seem like a good idea? Did interest in the CE spur this on?

Hmm Ubisoft as a publisher, they might be funding the distribution of physical copies, that has to be a good sign right? They wouldn’t be involved if the sales numbers were bad right?

I hope it has a positive reason because that would be amazing news for the HW franchise!

All I know is that I really, really, really want a case of these all to myself.

I’ll buy them. I hope this makes it to US shores also. I’d love to see HW sitting on Best Buys shelf.

It is a Euro-only distribution deal via Ubisoft’s massive distribution machine… If you see copies anywhere else it will be pirate or import, which pretty much means no Best Buy. I bet they’re all over eBay though - given the proclivity of HW fans to show off their wide collection of actual boxes & retail packaging

Yea I caught that. It’s why I said I hope this (physical retail sale) makes it to US shores.

Any idea how many discs this would take ? considering all the work both games have had done to them.

It’d probably be 1-3 depending on if they use 4.5gb DVDs or 9GB DVDs and how they include the patches. I’m a bit out of touch with that tech so not sure what the norm is these days. The Raw download on steam was under 9GB but theres een a couple of patches already and uncompressed it’s over 10GB. My bet is probably 2 DvDs

What makes europe better than us?!

Another question, why no commercials here, in the US?

I’m all for physical releases, but wow was the trailer for it bad. It’s done in a borderlands style, not homeworld. All that big flashy text and terrible music choice don’t suit the style of the game at all, it’s a very misleading video.
Plus, some of the big text says “SAVE HUMANITY”. What little is shown of (all) the races in the game is that they appear to resemble humans, but are allways refered to as something else. Thats a big (and incorrect) statement to make where the lore is concerned.

Also, why does the hiigaran mothership on the front of the box have a vaygr symbol on it?

Trailer is the same trailer for the steam release. I like it and I can see it catering for a modern audience (I assume most of the veterans have already bought it) so that means more people and that’s not a bad thing.

The original developers have confirmed that all the races in Homeworld are in fact real humans, presumably they came to the homeworld galaxy as the progenitors. So that statement is actually correct where lore is concerned.

This is the trailer i’m talking about. It really isn’t the one that came out for the steam release. I don’t mind getting a new audience for homeworld, i want everyone to know about it. But watching a trailer that has a borderlands feel to it and then actually playing homeworld is pretty jarring in terms of the overall style of the game, it just doesnt represent how homeworld feels.

I want a source for the thing about humans, because i’m sure i’ve read an interview where they said they avoided making the game about humans directly because it was a universe of their own making, no earth etc. If it turns out everyone in the homeworld universe is descended from humans then i’ll be sad as that feels like a bit of a weak story point.

Yes, actually that is the exact same one. It just has the physical copy bit extra at the very end. There was a minor kerfuffle and I think a post somewhere about it but that’s about it. Here you go (note the date): Homeworld Remastered Collection Launch Trailer

Also yes, I read that same interview but you seemed to have missed the point of it.

The actual people in the lore are humans, plain and simple. However where in other games the main protagonists are people with faces, in Homeworld the main protagonist is as much the Motherships and the disembodied voice of fleet intell as the little we see of the actual Karan S’jet. Your units don’t have character portraits like in SC for example, they are just ships. These things help keep the game timeless as character portrait styles change and become more/less relevant but a ship is a ship. You don’t have to worry about not representing every ethnicity for example and other such issues other games run into because there are no character portraits. That’s what that interview meant. Throughout both games you only ever see Karan S’jet and Makaan, BOTH of whom by the way are clearly human.

I actually think it may have been one of the devs on these very forums that confirmed it but heck if I can find it now. I’ve been following and watching every single video, official and not since January. If you wish to educate yourself: Homeworld Remastered Promo Videos (Warning, lots of videos!)

Anyone over there buy this yet? Un boxing pics?

Hopefully we’ll see some new faces around this weekend at least.

I wouldn’t hold your breath if I were you :unamused: frankly the coverage its getting by the people handling the UK physical sales is lacklustre to say the least.

GAME have got this as a GAME Exclusive in the UK and they couldn’t be bothered to even include it in the months upcoming release list.

if I didn’t already know they had it the chances of me stumbling across it by accident would be mediocre at best.
Honestly it like their trying Not to sell it at the moment.

I imagine the Marketing Guys at Gearbox are giving their counterparts over at GAME the stink eye for this level of endorsement :unamused:
