FX: Galaxy MOD v1.0 - The Legacy

This mod is made by The Ninth Fleet MOD Team (9CCN).
It is a mod for Homeworld:Remastered. Please do not try to use it with Homeworld 2 Classic.

FX:G 1.0 is the first formal ported version of FX series.

Attention
This is a simple ported version of FX:Commander 2.2.1. Since we are still not familiar with the new model format and scripts of HW:RM, there may be many bugs or glitches. We’ll be happy if you can tell us where those bugs are, but we may not fix them before we know those technical details well.

The Hiigaran and Vaygr are still not well balanced.

The Bentusi are incomplete and lack resource collectors. They should be considered as a beta/testing race.

And this mod should support Multiplayer game, but we haven’t test it yet.
Known Issues
Capital ship may be stuck after dock into Turanic shipyard.
Some units may be stuck by nearby ships.
Some units’ special effects or animation may not be displayed properly.

***** Features*****
-Custom (Animated) Main Menu.

  • 6 fully playable races, each with their own playing styles, unique units, technologies and abilities. Continue your campaign as the Hiigaran or Vaygr, reclaim past glory as the Progenitors, orchestrate the revival of the Kadeshi, join the Taiidan Empire in their quest for galactic domination or accompany the Turanic Raiders as they transcend their days of space piracy and become a force in the galaxy that is to be reckoned with.
  • Customizable in-game Music Player: The mod will randomly select ambient and battle tracks from the Homeworld Series and play those during your game. Comes with in-game repeat, shuffle, random and manual select functions to further customize it. It can also be disabled easily to use the default soundtrack for the concerning map.
  • New units for each of the races. These models have been carefully build from scratch to reflect the original Homeworld concept art as close as possible and remain true to the concerning race’s concept/dominant traits at the same time.
  • New unit abilities, a revamped research system & technology trees, and new gameplay modes/settings for expanded strategical options.
    -Homeworld 2 Classic style Unit Manager blueprints which can be easily recognize.

  • RPG Mode: A unique single-player mode that will be unlike anything you have ever seen in Homeworld before. It allows you to freely ‘jump’ between maps through a number of hyperspace gates that ‘connect’ all maps. You can receive missions from NPCs, purchase units and do many other things, just like a real RPG game. RPG mode also includes several unique/bonus units that are not selectable in Player vs. CPU or playable in the game.

There are 2 options available for installing this mod.

OPTION #1: THE STEAM WORKSHOP.

We recommend this approach since you’ll get later RM updates automatically.

Subscribe to the mod in the Steam workshop linked above.
Once you’ve downloaded it through Steam, launch Remastered and click “Mods” at the bottom right of the launcher window.
Select [EN]FX:Galaxy v1.0 - The Legacy and hit “select”. It should now appear under “Selected Mods” in right window.
Then hit “launch” and enjoy the game!

OPTION #2: MODDB (MANUAL INSTALL)For those who are not to keep on the Steam Workshop’s subscription system and prefer to do things the old-fashioned way.

Download the .ZIP file attached at http://www.moddb.com/mods/fx-galaxy/downloads/fx-galaxy-mod-v10-the-legacy (this page is still awaiting authorisation at present) and extract the .BIG file inside.
Put the FXG.big file into the Remastered’s DATA Folder (which should be something like: STEAM\steamapps\common\Homeworld\HomeworldRM\Data)
Create a NEW SHORTCUT for the executable game main entry [HomeworldRM.exe] (it can be found in …\HomeworldRM\Bin\Release).
Then you need to add the following commandline to the end of the shortcut’s TARGET field (right-click > properties)

For HW1 Campaign, add the following shortcut-commandline:

  1. Will you update the textures for the new ships?
  2. Will you keep using your own Taiidan, Progenitor and other models? Won’t you use the Gearbox models in Remastered?
  3. Will you rename Keeper to Progenitor (race)?
  4. Do you intend to provide a better translation for the ships and descriptions? If this mod had better English, it would be much more popular!

  2. some of them, the edited old model, yes, but gbx’s models are not easy to edit currently. as for the others, I’m hoping that you would tell me which one you prefer, the models gbx made, or we made?

  4. we are a Chinese mod group, so don’t expect much, unless someone are willing to help us proofread our text(it may be a lot)
    p.s. We really want a good Chinese-English translator so that you can read our epic background settings which tell the story from Progenitor coming to the galaxy to the end of the war between all races and T-MAT…

I honestly love your models and I would say you should keep them, but you should also use the GBX versions for Kadeshi Swarmer, for instance, with 4k textures. You could also import models for Balcora Gate, Mover and Keeper ship.

Yep, the name of the race is Progenitor, the Keeper is a ship (the one with the drones).

If you make an announcement, you will 100% find someone who can translate, since HWRM has a big playerbase in China too. I would also love to help with ship descriptions.

For example, instead of Hyperspace Force(for Progenitor), I think it should be Hyperspace Core or Hyperspace technology.

Keep up the good work and remember, this mod is really beloved!

Some of the models are not the same with GBX’s ones, even if they seem to be. For example, the keeper (yeah, the one with drones), we have added a capture point for it. So re-edited those model will take some time.
We can surely find a lot of Chinese players who can read English, they are good English-Chinese translator, but they are not so good for Chinese-English translation. For example, “Force of Hyperspace” as you mentioned, those words in Chinese have a…well, a mythic style, just like “The Hand That Shapes”. So we didn’t use words like “technology” because it’s a Sci-Fi style rather than something sounds mysterious. However, unless we find some native English speaker who can read Chinese, I don’t think we can really get a good translation to express that meaning.

An example of ‘joint/marker’ kitbashing in the current HOD format that sucks - because in order to do this minor edit you have to copy and fork the entire file. Many, many MODs will start to crash as we change how things work in patches (already have) and they have out-of-date ships. The ‘new’ HOD format will fix this in a big way - and your mod can add the extra data with a tiny 1 or 2kb file.

FX:Galaxy 1.0.4 update
It has been 12 days since FX:Galaxy V1.0.0 first released on Steam Workshop. It now has 1200 downloads(200 in Chinese), MODDB and others make the number reach 1600 in total. Players’ support is our energy source. In return for this favor, today, FX:Galaxy have updated to V1.0.4! This new version have not only completely ported all contents of old FX:Commander mod for homeworld2 classic(include Eden and Bentusi Defense), but also developped more as FX:C once planned(e.g. balance the Vaygr).Two months after HW:RM is released, FX:Galaxy have finally reached one of the basic goals of FX mod series, which is a well-balanced, multi-race skirmish mode with enough content.

In the future, we will mainly focus on our main goal: the RPG mode. Meanwhile, we will continue to finish six balanced races, remaster models and further define their tech tree. Besides, as more and more models created, we will also add new races(like bentusi and kushan). They may not have a complete building sequence, so they won’t be part of the balanced six-race system. We are not going to balance them, but to make them as part of this mod only for fun, and label them unbalanced.

So, four main contents will be included in FX:Galaxy, they are:

  1. Traditional RTS style skirmish mode with six well-balanced races, each one have unique units. Good to play a PVP or PVE mode.
  2. Play as other unbalanced races in skirmish mode for fun.
  3. Kinds of mini-campaign and game modes, like Eden, bentusi defense and
    FX:LF’s survival mode.
  4. RPG mode. Stay tuned to see this main content we are going to develop for FX:Galaxy!

About our models

we can devide FXC’s models into five kinds:

1.Ported models from hw1c, like crafts of taiidan and turanic, these are already replaced by gbx’s models.

2.Simple edited classic models, like keeper with capture points, we will replace them as soon as we can edit GBX’s models.

3.Kitbashed models based on classic ones, like hgn light cruiser. since GBX are quite opposite on doing so, we have no choice but to use what we have right now.

4.FX remastered models, like tur attack carrier, kad mothership and many taiidan ships. GBX also remastered them, so we are hoping that you could tell us which one you prefer, as for which one will be used finally, that depends on the creators of these FX models.

5.Completely original models. like kad nagual and kpr frigates. right now no one can promise whether these models will be remastered.

In the future, much more original models will be created in FXG, and we believe that their quality will be much better on hw remastered. however, the third kind of models are still cheap and easy to remain style. so we won’t give up creating models this way.

Awesome! Updating right now!

First, I’d like to give some pieces of advice based on what I have talked to friends I play with:

Models:
Our opinion is that since FX takes place in a different story/alternate history, it’s normal for Taiidan (who have really different models from GBX) and Kadeshi and Turanic to have different models. These should simply be updated with HD textures, that’s all.
I think it is very important for all ships to have HD textures, since it is a big part of HW Remastered. If you make an announcement for recruiting people who can help with textures, I am sure you will find many who want to help you!

About recruiting too: a proper translation for ship names and descriptions is vital for the ENG-speaking community. We understand Chinese is VERY different and has lots of meanings and symbols, but I can guarantee you people won’t understand them the same. This is why a simpler, more similar to HWRM translation would be suitable for the ENG version. I am sure someone will help. You seem to speak English very well, by the way!

The RPG system will be EXTREMELY interesting! Good luck with that!
However, don’t forget that many of us will still want to play FX in tournaments, so FX-Commander is still very important. We’d also LOVE to see balanced Bentusi race so we can play them too. They are as interesting as the Progenitors.

Hello! Is anyone having this issue?

Whenever I try to open FX mod, it crashes to desktop returning an Access Violation error.

Yes, this is caused by the recent update. BitVenom posted about it here
The FXmod team is aware of it and working on a fix.

/edit: Issue’s been fixed. If you are subscribed to the mod on Steam an updated version of v1.09 (Fix 1) will automatically download.

I have a question. When hosting a multiplayer game, I don’t have access to the chat lobby. Is that normal?

Mods with UI edits will need to do some extra work to enable the new lobby system. Until they merge in some of the recent gearbox changes, the screen simply doesn’t exist in the mod.
