Well, when you think of the level of quality we now see in games, and Battleborn was a good quality game, it’s highly likely that the story for B3 is all set out and they are hard in development, but the amount of time it will take them to make this fine ass looking No1 hit, well…could be a few years yet. My guess would be end of 2018-19. It would seem like they have assets in place as we saw in the tech demo, but they are gonna release when it’s badass…and nothing short.
Well your totally right, and Mr P himself they needed a break from it. I think it was a good think they did in holding out, producing Battleborn, and waiting for the right moment (with story written and team happy) to start the ball rolling.
What you say about CoD is also true. The biggest problem they had was the timeline structure they followed, always going more futuristic, thus becoming stale with little difference. Personally i’d like to see more creative minds in these companies. At least WWII has the making of a great campaign and MP maps, got good hopes for it.
Dang and I was just about to write up how I came to my conclusion for this reveal this year and launch next year. Needn’t bother now. If this news is true I am one happy chappy.
I think they are talking about it within the timeframe of Red Dead 2 so my guess is next year. I don’t find this surprising at all to be honest. But of course like RD2 games do get pushed depending on development challenges. I still stand behind my prediction that we will see a trailer and at least a glimpse of gameplay in August/September this year.
I always thought creating BL3 after Battleborn* was a smart move. Yes, Battlborn hasn’t been overly hyped nor critically acclaimed like SOME GAMES (HINT HINT) but hey, it was a risk and we all know whatever money they lost they will most definitely make up with BL3. I don’t see Gearbox in a precarious position at all. Battleborn may have flunked (a game I am a huge fan of), but BL is their winning ticket and always have been.
What BL3 will be about, how it’ll look, etc, is going to be interesting. But please, if someone is going to be set on fire, I don’t want to hear AGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!AAAAAAAGGGUUAAHHHHHHHHH!! every three seconds. If they can change that stupid part of BL2, I’ll be happy.
(* aside: what in the heck is Gearbox’s obsession with titles starting with B?! Borderlands. Battleborn. To some extent-but-not-really Bulletstorm? Bomeworld. Buke Dukem. B’aliens: Coloniel Marines, hell, even Bames Bond 007: Nightfire begins with B!)
What ever happens, and when it is imminent, i REALLY hope they market this with care. I’ve said before, I don’t want this game stuck on twitch and youtube before it comes out. Hype it, yes, stream it, no.
Destiny 2 has gone bonkers, too much on show. PLEASE DON’T DO THIS with B3!!!
Talking about our titles is like having kids whose names start with the same letter. “I need to make a post about Battleborn-ack, I mean Borderlands! Crap, I mean Bulletstorm!”
Yea. But I keep trying other stuff and just not getting as into it as I do with Borderlands games. Not even Mass Effect Andromeda, Battleborn, Destiny, Diablo 3, or the Division. I’m come close with Diablo 3 and Destiny. For example, in Borderlands games I play each class up to max level. Sometimes multiple times with the same class, and I tend to have about 4 to 10 extra characters in progress as well (couch coop or dedicated online coop with one person, or just me having fun and/or grinding badass rank with more and more characters).
I keep hoping to find a more recent Borderlands like game but missing key elements from Borderlands.
In most other games recently, I just tend to beat it and move on. Sadly. Or not. That said, I will say that the endgame infinite progression and systems present in Diablo 3 are amazing. As such, I’m starting to reach a level of playtime and character count similar to what I do in Borderlands games. The only problem is that it’s not an FPS. As such, I can go many months without any interest in playing it. During those months I might I load it up and then quit because I feel like playing an FPS instead.
Destiny I played a lot and it has some cool endgame progression, even similar to Diablo 3’s, but I generally get really pissed off at it’s pricing and left behind when DLC drops, until that DLC is priced at what I’m comfortable paying. I’m still waiting for Rise of Iron to be $20 or less.
I haven’t played enough Division yet to say how I feel about it yet. It gets really hard if you don’t keep up with all the upgrades and perks you can use. I think some of the early missions are too hard for the level they claim you can be for them. Once I unlock a few more things I might be more comfortable. Getting a good zoom in scope or two has helped immensely, as I aim down scope A LOT.
Mass Effect Andromeda is a great game but I am having trouble picturing myself playing through it’s more involved story again (so soon at least) in newgame+ mode. Even though in Borderlands games I have obviously run the story many many times. That said, I do feel like the structure of Borderlands difficulty modes is a little whacky. Essentially they expect the player to play the story 18+ times in order to max each character to max level. It needs to be more like Diablo 3’s adventure mode once you’ve beaten the game once.
As for Mass Effect Andromeda. I MIGHT do newgame+. But more likely I’ll just finish all side quests, do multiplayer coop some more and possibly DLC if it comes out.
Battleborn is close to replacing some Borderlands aspects for me, but not enough. Mission structure, no open world map, the way loot is handled, the bounty/quest system and instant mission loss conditions push me away.
Yet, even though there’s been tons of stuff I’ve tried since Borderlands 2 or TPS or 1, I keep feeling the desire to go back and play it again. And even though we’ve seen better endgame progression in other games. At the same time, it’s been a little harder to go back to Borderlands games recently because of some of the more modern endgame features. Basic example, EXP becomes worthless in Borderlands games once you’re at max level. It should contribute to the Bad Ass Rank. The Bad Ass Rank challenges are only OK as a method to keep progressing. Some of them feel very forced and unnatural to shoot for and as a player you start to seek shortcuts to speed up the grind of them (for example, switching back to normal mode so you can one shot guys with shields). Whereas, paragon level in Diablo 3 is just natural. Now EXP works towards giving you configurable and resettable bonuses to your character.
Anyhow. I am so off topic. I kinda feel like we might see Borderlands 3 next year.
I’ve already got my torch and pitchfork ready man! Lol. In all seriousness I’ll be happy if we get a little tease later this year but I’m sure Gearbox is aware that as soon as you do that all of us BL nuts will start wanting more…
I like the way that you are thinking I think though it is a little early for a trailer or even a teaser. If they did I would love it! Besides they are pushing the just released free trial versions of Battleborn at the moment and all their public attention will rightly be onto that. It seems to be giving the game a boost it needed. I am wary though as free to play does not mean the new arrivals will stay though. Curiosity will get a lot of people looking at the game and now that it is finally polished it should be able to keep some for a long term but just how many is hard to say. If not it turns out to be just a moment in the sun then we will be seeing Borderlands 3 lickety-split as in around September this year.
The reboot of Battleborn is not going so well. Even with a free to play trial the boost in numbers is looking modest at best. Borderlands 3 here we come!
