I am working on a MAP pack for Rth30 and EIB.. Need advice about AI setting

I will try to have them released this weekend. And the pack will include a few of the same levels from eib and rth30 but just re-edited for realism. For example, some maps had you going against 4-5 German tanks. That was unrealistic, so I removed a few of the tanks in some maps and just made the existing tanks more difficult. Also in some maps every German in the level had an stg44 or fg42, that hs not accurate, so I tave a more realistic dispersion of weaponry. The primary German weapons were k98 and mp40. The fg42 and stg were a bit more rare. In some maps, like Tom and jerry, I added 30 cal machine guns that your men can mount and that YOU can mount. So it really makes the game less Arcadish and it works perfectly with rendroc a warzone mod.

As you can see… some of the maps will have 30 cal machine guns. Such as Ripe Pickings. At the end of the level, when the dozens of Germans come to counter attack the base…there will be to 30 calls set up… one for you to mount, and one that you can order your troops to mount.

I have some suggestions to improve in realism some of the maps of rth30:

  • put the second squad together with the third squad to defend the hill 30
    -more us soldiers on the exit four (just indipendent AI, not squad members), better if digged in in a different cover, placed next to the .30 cal)
  • three or four us soldiers with the Lt. Combs during the Ripe Pickings mission.

Let me know if it’s possible to make those changes :wink:

Hey a lot of the suggestions you mentioned are actually features. Also , for ripe pickings I recommend playing it with the combat zone mutator, it gives you and combs squad more U.S. Troops without increasing number of Germans. Sometimes that works better for somemaps.

Any chance of a snow map, maybe inspired by the Battle of the Bulge? Can be either SP or MP.

Once I release this map pack you guys can give input on other things you would like to say. Perhaps 30cal solders in baupte mission or perhaps maybe another tank unit…so this will get fun. Again these modifications were to make some of the maps more realistic. As you know some of the levels had you facing way too many tanks. Instead I made the tank difficulty harder and had you have one or two… Things like that.

As of now, I don’t have expertise to create new maps and scripts. But tweaking existing maps isn’t so difficult. But who knows maybe I can learn that eventually.

I am looking forward to play Your map pack in Single Player, i hope that You will attach a kind of readme and install instructions for users.

If You consider a very high level or realism, You should maybe look somewhere to find historical sources on Internet or check the authentic AAR (After Action Reports) written by US army about the real events which are depicted in BiA:RtH30 and EiB. There is also a ā€œdocumentaryā€ movie posted on this forum about the fights in Normandy - i watched it:

Can you add some MGs to some of the MP maps? And add all the other MGs to the weapons test map?

If possible, building interiors for the MP maps would be nice.

For your reference, here are my favorite MP maps:

Aid Station (this would be a good test map, plenty of places for MGs and buildings for testing how to make building interiors)

love the enthusiasm and ideas yeah maybe we can start working on maps together! Do you also have the SDK? Btw, i intend to release the mod pack late tonight, and it will include read me and features.

I don’t have a copy of Windows XP for setting a dual boot atm sadly, but I’ll let you know if/when I do get it. I think for now we can just try adding MGs to some of the MP maps (I can say where to place them if you want me to) to see how the AI reacts to them. I think Aid Station (EiB only) would be a really good testing map for new changes.

As for map ideas, I think this thread would be the best place for that discussion. Maybe with experience we can get my urban combat map idea and make it snowy as we wait for BotB. I can provide drawings of map layouts if you want me to.

Map mod is uploaded to moddb, not just waiting authorization. here is the read me:

Installation:
FIRST be sure to back up your map files (the one’s that these replace) to a different folder just incase you want to game on them again.

-For Road to Hill 30, copy the maps included in the rth30 folder into your BrothersInArms/Maps folder.

-For EIB, copy the maps included in the EIB folder into your brothersinarmsearnedinblood/Maps folder.

Description:
This is the next step towards Realism in Brothers in Arms road to hill 30 and Earned in Blood. The included single player maps have been tweaked for more realism.

Features:
–Germans have realistic weapon distribution. In the original game, for some maps each German would have an stg44 or an fg42, which is not accurate as these weapons were rare and were not given to an entire platoon. Therefore, based upon the German unit and division, the realistic proportion of weapons are in the maps. So fg42s and stg44s are more rare. Fg42 only will appear with paratrooper units. The primary weapons were the k98 and the mp40. A few panzerfausts are given to soldiers as well, along with the walther p38.

–TANKS! Brothers in Arms was heavily criticized for having ā€œtank boss levelsā€, where you would face 3 or more tanks throughout a mission. As we know, it is highly unrealistic for a single squad to go up against three or more panzers with any success. Therefore, for some of the missions, excessive tanks have been removed, and the existing tanks were just made more difficult. In this way, even a single tank is a challenge. So no more multiple hit and run panzerfaust tank boss battles!

–Mg42 and 30 cal. In some of these maps there are more mg42 that give the feeling of a mobile mg. Thus, certain squads will have an mg42 without any sandbag protection, to cover flanks, etc… 30 CAL!! That’s right, certain maps that were designed to fend off waves of Germans and where US forces have set up a CP, will have 30 machine gun emplacements that either YOU or your squad can mount.

–Some of the maps have extra solders added to your squad.

MAP NOTES:
I want the maps to surprise you, but certain maps have features that you would do well to know ahead of time:

Alternate Route: YOu will notice that you have a bazooka team member, use him carefully and he will help to destroy the anti tank gun before your tank crosses the bridge.

RipePickings: As soon as you leave the farm house you will notice TWO 30 cal machine guns, in the field. These are set up to help you and your squad defeat the german wave counter attack that will come at the end of the mission. CHurch Tower: This will remind you of saving private ryan…Because to your right (near Mac) in the tower, you ail lsee a 30 cal machine gun resting on the concrete rail. It will help you to fend off german troops and it can be aimed at the German troops who will later attack from the rear of the church.
ALSO, as soon as the mission begins, you will notice that on the ground level (where you squad goes), I have placed a 30 machine gun facing in the direction of the first germans who attack. Therefore, be sure to have your troops mount it and it will really help. (They will only mount it with rendrocs warzone command mod).

Recommended mods: This play WONDERFULLY with Rendrocs Warzone command mod.

What are the recommended (or minimal) requirements to run Vmvare tool (Virtual machine) on Windows Vista OS?

My Laptop specs: 2GB RAM, Dual Core 1,5GHZ - is that enough? How much free hard drive space I would need?

I would also like to start using SDK and I have somewhere a hidden copy of Windows XP ;).

You might still be able to use the SDK on Windows Vista, so you should try it once because that would be the easiest way. It may only be with WIndows 7 that you have to use VMware.

If necessary, there are no minimum requirements for VMware, Disk space should be enough for the XP OS and the games… Maybe 25GB? I think you will just have to see for yourself to see if it runs the BiA/SDK fast enough, but I think it should work.

I tried today to install the SDK 1.10 on Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30, but the installation freezes and this window shown up (see image below):

What does it mean? Is that normal during instalation?

I resumed the installation by closing this window. When later i tried to launch ā€œUnrealEd - BiA RTH30 Editionā€ nothing happens. I installed the SDK 1.10 correctly into BiA:RtH30 root folder.

Yes, unfortunately it seems that it may not work with Vista. I believe you are seeing the same behavior we get from windows 7. There may be a solution, but I do not know it. You will probably have to try VMware or dual boot next.

OK, i was afraid that You will say so Rendroc. However, thank You for the answer.

As for dual boot i don’t want to risk the possibilty of crashing my existing Windows Vista OS installation on my Laptop, because i don’t know how to do dual boot function properly.

If i ever decide to run SDK, i would probably try to use Vmvare tool instead, but for now i don’t have enough free disc space for another OS and software.
