I dislike the way Ava was written and she's the worst character in the franchise

Ava feels like she needs better writing. I get the trope but eh… I just felt “meh” towards going through the second playthrough. They did good job making her very much the as the angsty emo teen, but as someone being in the younger generation myself, I felt more connection towards someone like Tina(even though she is insane) than Ava. Though to be fair Tina has been in technically three game if you count her brief voice lines in the pre sequel so more to get to know her character a bit and such.

Totally with Seraph on that one.

She sounds like she was intentionally made to be annoying, and it works.

It does yes, but to the point where i mute the game and alt tab out until her scenes are over. I dont think this what the writers intend. Its fairly common to write children like this in movies and tv shows and it annoys me there too.

But hey, there’s room for character development so not all hope is lost.

My thoughts…

I wish Ava would have sacrificed herself for Maya. Student for the teacher would’ve been a nice change instead of the norm.

I would have rather seen some good writing for Ava than the typical snot nose. But o well. So i shall hate the Ava character for now! Maybe she will redeem herself in a DLC ;D

My biggest issue with her is that everything is handed to her with no character development. She is just given Maya’s power and she can instantly control them even though both Angel and Tannis had great difficulty when they first received theirs. But nope - she just saved their lives and can control it no problem at all. Then Lilith just gives her sanctuary? In what universe is that any kind of a good idea? Not to mention, all she did was scream at other people and blame them. If for one second she had a moment where she said ‘it’s all my fault…Maya was all I had…and I lost her,” I’d have felt sone pity for her - that she does feel remorse and she’s just lashing out.

But she doesn’t. Everything is given to her because she’s the new child of borderlands since Tina is all grown up.

Honestly character development has been little to none in BL3 except for Tannis who became more like a leader…which ruined her IMO and made her less Tannis-y.

Yeh, this. She does have her amusing moments albeit she’s a pain in the butt. But Vaughn, i’d like to see him jump in lava and never appear again. Easily the most annoying doosh IMO…

edit: What the hell does ‘Trope y’ mean? is this US slang?

Exactly how I felt. The best Siren in the game sacrificed and her powers given to a detestable character. SMH.

I would have enjoyed it more because it turned an expectation sideways. My attachment to maya is not as strong as many but I want a surprise in the story now and again

Man if the leading characters who guide you through the missions from now on are Ava and Tannis…hoo boy we’re in for a slog.

As a parent of a 17 yo, and a good understanding through my career what losing one’s parents and then finding and subsequently losing a surrogate parent, I feel she’s justified in her reactions to much of what happens to her.

No thanks. I’d rather have storylines with different characters.

Loaderbot, Fiona, even more Brick/Mordy/Tina. Avoid Vaughn, avoid Ava.

I kept hoping she’d accidentally airlock herself or something. If she’s the new leader in the story moving forward they need to patch in scene skip.

She is incredibly annoying and should not have even been in this sci-fi/action/comedy game for adults at all. It’s such a weird choice, especially as they sideline alot of awesome characters to make room for her “Arc” (and I hestitate to even call it that tbh).

The story in general is awful though tbh.

LOVE the gameplay though.

I have to agree she is not just annoying but she also gets shoehorned in as an important character where the others had some reason of being there. People are saying she is acting correctly for her situation, and they are right, but that doesn’t mean she is a good character.
I also really hate that she just becomes a siren. I know it has never been confirmed how sirens gain their powers but even the calypso twins point it more towards being something you are from birth.
She shows no changing in her character. I would see her as being the villain in any following titles not as the protagonist. I mean the first time we meet her she is looting corpses and being a brat towards maya. Ok maybe she grows and gets better? Well lets see she gets maya killed by the calypso twins. Maya wanted to leave but Eva just had to be a brat then start a fight. Ok maybe now she will change? Nope just blames Lilith who wasn’t there. If she blamed herself and then changed from the experience she could be a pretty good character but nope. Oh and almost forgot she gets rewarded in the end for doing literally nothing to help us or the others. Maybe if eva had sacrificed herself in the end I would remember her fondly and not feel that another good character was just killed. Also there is no reason that she could not phaselock the moon back into proper orbit without needing for someone to die, troy did so with no training and no experience with the power but he does it just fine. Sorry I could probably write an essay on how 3 messes up many plotlines and has bad characters but I am too busy grinding for loot. It is a good game to play, it is not a good story

There is a distinct difference between fitting into a trope and smashing a trope so hard the character is nothing but the trope incarnate.

True, but I also don’t like a character just…not being acknowledged anymore.

Well I was thinking more along the lines of the BL2 expansions. One focused on pirates and new characters. Torgue introducing new characters and having a bit of Moxxi and Tina. Tiny Tina being complete fantasy. Then Professor Nakayama has that storyline.

None of them really advanced the main plot from the Handsome Jack campaign, they were just new adventures. Ava doesn’t have to be involved at all and wouldn’t be missed if the BL3 expansions followed the same formula.
