They can always keep the level 50 cap but give you 2 more skill points to use. So you’ll have 50 instead of 48. That would be useful for certain builds but not OP.
I’d like to see any lvl cap increase with additional points not be forced into the current skill tree structure. The easiest way to allow these extra points and still have more specialist impact is by increasing the point caps in the skills. Having mods already boost many skills past their cap so having that cap expanded will give some better bonuses in specialized builds.
I dont think 20 more levels can make any character overpowered, mostly because all characters can achieve almost full damage potential as it is right now, so added skill points will just open up new builds with more utility and sustain.
And even if you get somehow overpowered because of your access to more skillpoints, i would still prefer being overpowered by designing my own cool build instead of just glitching out the game to one shot everything, keep in mind we are talking about borderlands here, there is allways a way to break the game and gain unintended amounts of power, look at the legendary farming methods, afk legendaries, several per minute, look at one shots builds, for all characters, look at one shot slams, and i can keep going. I dont like playing like that, i dont like exploits or glitches, or cheating, but i might enjoy overpowered builds, but i want them to be op because of something i designed instead of something that the game couldnt handle.
I thought TPS didn’t need the second one, I thought bl2 was great at 72.
I can see an extra 10 to 15 points in this game. I don’t think we would need 20+more skills but if 2 years down the road we get it I won’t complain.
Now there are rumors that instead of new characters we will get new skill trees, in that case who knows. 20 or more extra points could be in order. Or maybe further down the road we end up with 5 skill trees.
Who knows this is a new game.
This post is a major preemptive strike on something that may or may not come 8-12 months from now lol. Cap increase is lame because we have to farm higher level guns but it’s that loop that brings old players back to the game and keeps people engaged. If/when they release UVHM we will most likely need more power. They’ve talked about NOT releasing additional characters in dlc, so maybe they will add a 4th skilltree? There’s lots of places they can go with the game, and still being within the first month of release this topic seems a bit preemptive and silly.
If we’re getting new skill trees instead of vault hunters this time around I have no problem with 20 or more new levels.
I didn’t play TPS long enough to know but BL2 72/OP 8 felt great, as did 80
for the topic, I welcome refarming all my gear and guns
I lean towards another 8 to 10 points being reasonable with what we currently have. I’ve liked the level caps that have given us about 2 and a half trees. With the number of desirable skills in the bottom halves of trees I doubt another 10 points would destroy diversity. And in cases like Zane’s there would be some really interesting synergies that would open up.
I made a Reddit thread a month ago saying a similar thing. I was honestly surprised how many people agreed with me. Was still an unpopular opinion, though.
My only hope is if they do increase the level it’s only a little and when the release the additional skill trees. Imagine being Amara and having to pick between 4 or even 5 skill trees? There should be some great diversity ahead.
EDIT: I don’t see why people are so annoyed over farming again if they is a level increase. The topic of the OP was not to have the level increase because of the skill points. Giving us more points but keeping the level at 50 is actively working against what @Slif_One was talking about.
As for “I have to farm again.” Yea, that’s what happens in a games life cycle. If you play an MMO are you going to wait until the last week the servers are live to finally farm for good gear? No. Borderlands is the same. The enjoyment is in the journey not the destination.
It’s not just about Skill trees though, it’s also about refarming gear.
If you’re 50 forever, that Fire Lyuda will last you forever.
A level cap increase isn’t needed per say but some extra skill points would be nice. Maybe enough to hit 2 capstones if desired. However too many and we start losing out on diversity because too much of the trees can be filled at once time.
This was nice to wake up to. Good read, thanks for the discussions.
Thanks for clarifying that for me while I slept
Oh man,I really wanna agree and I do with the points you make. But my selfish desires speak otherwise.Trully wanna see how 2 capstones work together.
+GBX said there are gonna be more trees?! Since there aren’t gonna be anymore characters I would expect 1 more tree and even with more points we can still keep the diversity in builds.
No.
I hate this
Bad
How engaging and thought provoking, very insightful.
Yes.
I’m glad your considering my opinion
Good
I dont mind refarming my gear for lvl 60 gear, thats part of the game.
We need at least 1 cap increase. Once all the broken stuff is fixed, and the hotfix applied as a real patch, we need an increase in level so the real endgame can begin, without all those offline and such exploits.
With stuff like a possible fourth skill tree being added, and more mayhem modes being added as well, we are going to need an increase to the level cap. With Mayhem mode 4, it has already added quite a decent challenge to solo play as it is. If a mayhem 5 comes along, then solo play will be damn near impossible without either exploits, or a level cap increase to better optimize your character.
I like the idea that one day I will have to ditch almost every piece of gear and farm for better builds.
