So? Raiding’s not your thing. Nothing wrong with that. I’m not much of a raider either.
Erm. I dont raid in Borderlands 2. Never could. Nor do i care to either. But I learned Craw. You can too
Question: Are you fighting Playthrough 1 Craw or Playthrough 2 Craw? If you’re fighting PT2 Craw, try PT1 craw instead. He and his minions will be the same level as PT2, but will have less health.
I already asked that. But he never answered. :X
PT2. Is there any point fighting PT1 craw? It’s not like he’ll drop max level loot, is it?
EDIT: Wait, hold on. Does he actually? Because that could be a breakthrough.
Yes, he does.
Hmm.
I was gonna try more Craw later, after a few armory runs to warm up.
I’ll go back to PT1 to do it.
I’ve made tons of runs on craw on both playthrough one and two and I actually couldn’t tell a difference in loot quality. Some of my most epic finds were from playthrough one. I never actually done the first with my hunter never got around to it but I would imagine any half decent masher would eat him alive. Plus all the minions are so much easier to deal with. I do my specter craw kills on one just to save time so pretty much most of my craw loot posted with my specter comes from the first playthrough.
Ugh. Nope. I tried. I really did. Survived for over a minute thanks to finding a spot where craw couldn’t really attack me. Unfortunately, I was pinned there and the endless waves of minions got me. Again.
Even got one or two limbs off. But it wasn’t enough. It’s never enough.
I focus the worms, Craw gets me. I focus Craw, worms get me.
Balance. Shoot Craw in between shooting minions.
Never stand still. Keep moving. Always keep moving.
Welp.
After getting Mordy’s 5th pearl in the armory, I felt brave enough to take on PT1 Craw. It was difficult, and I died a few times, but Ledge Strats got me through. Once I took care of minions that followed me there, killing Craw himself wasn’t too hard.
I’ve decided to just use the ledge. I know all about gear and stuff, I’m spec’d into Gunslinger com with ammo regen. PT2 Craw is tough as hell, but I’ve done it.
Also, I don’t have a d-pad. I’m a PC player.
A 360 or XBOne controller should come with a USB connector, so you can play Steam games with a controller. Borderlands 1’s button prompts will still have the default keyboard buttons tho, because Steam had not taken off yet back in 2009. Also, there should be default keyboard shortcuts for weapon slots.
I know I can use a controller.
I DON’T use a controller.
I’m a PC player. That means I use mouse and keyboard, because they are available.
The Crawmerax fight was extremely unbalanced, imo. It’s hard enough that Craw can only be damaged in his crit spots, AND that the minions can only be damaged by one element. But, making 2 out of 3 of the minions strong enough to 1HKO you was too much. Fortunately, I play Lilith, and phasewalking while crouching on the ledge keeps me undetected until my next shot.
Eh, it’s supposed to be hard! But, with practice, it is reliably doable with any character (with no ledge glitching), but is not ever a guaranteed win. Perfect way to have a raid boss IMO.
I hope this comes across as pseudo-inspirational, and not bragging. It took me some time, and many different builds to solo craw, but I managed to do it with all 4 classes, and semi consistently.
If the old forums were up, I would link to my Mordy solo craw guide. These were the main things I did to make it doable.
First and foremost, especially if using a masher to take out Craw’s purple spots, I highly recommend using a ranger COM. Best option is a purple with +4 to predator and the extra crit damage 5th line. This lets Bloodwing be on a 1 second cool down so OFB (w/ explosive element) is always ready to heal. Keep throwing Blood out, and have Bird of Prey maxed out, so you can always have health return by recalling him.
Since I preferred ranger to gunslinger (the extra fire rate made it harder to land shots on Craw with a revolver/masher. I preferred ranger so each shot hit harder), and I didn’t have ammo regen, I tried to mix my 4 guns between revolvers and machine pistols/repeaters. My masher main (2-shot preferred for extra damage) and corrosive option I usually kept as revolvers, and fire and shock as pistols.
For shields, I used a tediore quick health regen with the shortest recharge delay I could find. I eventually got an anshin rose, and it made life easier.
When coming off the lift, I would toss out Bloodwing, run for the right set of pillars, and take down maggots first, then greens, and keep circling the right pillars. I would take shots at Craw when I could, and keep taking down minions until only purples remained. I wasn’t perfect, but I could fairly consistently solo craw with this set up. I know some of this info has been mentioned already, but I hope you find it helpful. Good hunting!
Shock also works very well on Craw. Half a dozen shots with an Orion will take out any of his Crit spots.
me too - tbh who’s to say it’s a ‘glitch’ at all and not a deliberate place where you can actually beat the thing? after all it’s not that easy even then - you still have to hit his critical point on the back - and that means a richochet weapon and also having him stand in the right place…
Or a Nidhogg
